Her Alpha - Chapter 2
When Shen Zuofeng returned to the waiting room, the representative from Chiliang hadn’t arrived yet, and she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
“Boss! You’re back!” Ning Wenjing quickly stood up. Her boss’s sudden dash out earlier had given her quite a scare. She had considered following to check, but remembering that the scheduled meeting with Chiliang was imminent, she worried about the awkwardness if no one was there to greet them.
Left behind, Ning Wenjing was on edge, fretting over what had happened to her boss while also dreading how she would handle the situation if the Chiliang representative arrived before Shen Zuofeng returned.
“Hmm, the Chiliang representative hasn’t arrived yet?” Shen Zuofeng nodded, casually smoothing out the wrinkles in her clothes from her earlier sprint.
“They sent someone over just now, saying that Young Master Chi encountered an unexpected situation on the way and would be a few minutes late. They asked us to wait a little longer,” Ning Wenjing reported.
“Alright, got it.” Shen Zuofeng sat down, her curiosity piqued about what exactly had delayed the famously punctual Young Master Chi. For someone known for timeliness to be late for their first collaboration meeting was quite unusual.
Knock, knock, knock.
A gentle knocking sound was followed by a clear, pleasant female voice. “I’m sorry for being late.”
Shen Zuofeng looked up and was momentarily stunned.
A tall woman stood at the door, her right hand still raised mid-knock. Her exquisitely beautiful features carried a hint of apology, and her deep, dark eyes were fixed on Shen Zuofeng.
She’s too beautiful.
Shen Zuofeng’s mind went blank, with only that thought swirling in the emptiness.
“Miss Shen?” the woman asked, sounding slightly puzzled.
“Ah, hello!” Shen Zuofeng snapped back to reality and stood up to greet her. “I’m sorry, I was a bit distracted just now.”
Ning Wenjing, standing to the side, glanced discreetly at her boss, inwardly noting how uncharacteristically flustered she had seemed. Could it be that she’s taken a liking to Young Master Chi? She stole another glance at the woman by the door. She really is stunning.
“It’s fine. Let’s sit down and talk,” Chi Qingwei said with a faint smile. After she sat down, her assistant, who had followed her in, poured a cup of hot tea for each of them before standing quietly by Young Master Chi’s side.
Shen Zuofeng sat down opposite Chi Qingwei, her expression having returned to its usual composure. She said earnestly, “I’d like to know if you’re interested in adapting the game Sword Quest into a drama?”
Sword Quest was a fantasy cultivation game developed by Shen Zuofeng’s company. It had gained widespread acclaim for its exquisite costume designs, props, and well-structured, engaging storyline. In just three months since its release, its popularity had surpassed that of established games in the market.
Chi Qingwei raised an eyebrow slightly, studying the serious and attractive alpha in front of her. “What’s your reason for doing this? Although I don’t play games, I’ve heard about how popular this one is. You hardly need to do anything more, it already has excellent publicity.”
Shen Zuofeng shook her head, gazing into Chi Qingwei’s deep, dark eyes as she replied with a faint smile, “But what I want is more than just for it to exist as a game. A game’s lifespan is short, three to five years at most, or maybe five to six. The Sword Chronicles is our company’s first developed game, and its significance to us is extraordinary. We don’t just want this game to last; we want it to become a classic.”
The Sword Chronicles not only features exquisite costumes and props but also a rich storyline. She hoped to bring these storylines to a wider audience through film and television adaptations.
Chi Qingwei fell silent for a moment before smiling and asking, “But why choose us? Chilian Media is just a trial venture into the film and television industry. Are you really so confident about entrusting this game to us?”
Shen Zuofeng looked at her seriously for a few seconds and answered honestly, “It’s precisely because you’re new to the film and television industry that we’re interested.”
“Hmm?” Chi Qingwei was taken aback.
Shen Zuofeng smiled lightly. “Since you’ve just entered the film and television industry, you’re in urgent need of a standout work to establish yourselves. Your first project will naturally receive special attention. Our game adaptation already comes with a built-in fanbase, making it a solid choice for you.”
Chi Qingwei stared at her intently, then suddenly broke into a smile, her eyes gleaming with even greater interest. “You’re right, but I don’t think that’s the only reason you’re discussing this with me.”
Given the popularity of The Sword Chronicles, if they announced they were selling the adaptation rights, countless companies would be clamoring for them. There was no need to approach a company like theirs, which had yet to produce any notable work.
“Of course, there’s more to it,” Shen Zuofeng said. “We’re not selling the rights outright; we’re offering them as part of a collaboration. Our condition is that we must be involved in all aspects of the production casting, costumes, scriptwriting Future Tech will participate in everything to ensure the storyline and characters stay true to the original.”
Hearing this, understanding dawned in Chi Qingwei’s eyes. Now she understood why Shen Zuofeng had sought them out.
Although the IP was hot, not many companies would agree to such demands. Established production companies had their own workflows and wouldn’t tolerate outsiders interfering, especially when the rights weren’t even being sold outright. This was also why many original creators felt powerless when their works were heavily altered after selling the rights.
“So, you’re confident that we can do justice to your IP?”
After all, while big companies might not accept their terms, some smaller ones wouldn’t refuse. It was clear to anyone how much traffic this could bring.
Shen Zuofeng smiled faintly. “What I trust is the Chilian Group.”
As long as they could participate in the production, they would ensure the quality was up to standard. The biggest challenge was funding.
It wasn’t that she couldn’t come up with the funds herself, but if she allocated all their liquid assets to filming, it would inevitably strain the company’s cash flow. Chilian Media, backed by the Chilian Group, had no such worries about funding and that was the most crucial factor for her.
Chi Qingwei pondered for a moment. From the current perspective, Chiliang Media urgently needed to produce a work. It wasn’t impossible to create a good drama by finding quality scripts and talented actors, but when it came to initial traffic.
“Alright, I still need some time to consider. Whether I agree or not, I’ll give you a reply in three days,” Chi Qingwei said after a moment of thought. Although she knew the game was highly popular, she hadn’t actually familiarized herself with its storyline. While she wanted to leverage the traffic, she also didn’t want her first project to fail.
“Very well, thank you, President Chi,” Shen Zuofeng replied with a light smile. She had anticipated this outcome, so she showed no surprise or disappointment.
Chi Qingwei nodded, watching as Shen Zuofeng stood up as if to say goodbye, yet her expression seemed hesitant and conflicted.
Shen Zuofeng let out a soft sigh and looked down at Chi Qingwei, who remained seated calmly on the sofa. A hint of embarrassment flickered in her eyes, but as she met those deep, composed black eyes, she gritted her teeth and spoke up, “Miss Chi, may I have your contact information?”
As soon as the words were spoken, the entire reception room fell silent. The air seemed to freeze instantly, no longer flowing.
Ning Wenjing stared at her boss with a stunned expression, as if she had seen a ghost. This development felt rather odd. But then again, the two companies might collaborate in the future, so exchanging contact information shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
But wait, hadn’t all communication between the two companies always been handled through assistants?
Chi Qingwei lifted her gaze and calmly observed the alpha standing before her. Shen Zuofeng seemed somewhat nervous and restrained, a stark contrast to the composed and confident demeanor she had displayed during their business discussion. It was as if she had transformed into a completely different person.
Chi Qingwei neither agreed nor refused, simply watching Shen Zuofeng quietly.
Shen Zuofeng met her gaze. Under such circumstances, she should have felt awkward, yet no such emotion arose. Instead, she felt a sense of relief and apology.
“I’m sorry for troubling you. Since we’ve finished our discussion, we’ll take our leave now.”
“Goodbye. Xiao Xi, please see Miss Shen and her companion out,” Chi Qingwei said, nodding as she watched them leave.
Once the three of them stepped out of the Chiliang Building and bid farewell to Chi Qingwei’s assistant, Xiao Xi, Shen Zuofeng and Ning Wenjing headed straight for the parking lot.
Watching her boss stride ahead with purpose, Ning Wenjing wanted to ask but didn’t dare. Her face twisted into a conflicted expression, almost resembling a steamed bun.
Shen Zuofeng naturally noticed her expression and guessed what was on her mind.
She pursed her lips slightly. The reason she had impulsively asked for Miss Chi’s contact information was that, the moment she saw her standing at the entrance, her uncontrollably racing heartbeat told her that she had fallen for this woman at first sight.
Having lived twenty-three years in her previous life and another twenty-five in this one, she was now forty-eight years old. In all those years, this was the first time she had encountered someone she liked. To be honest, she really wanted to seize the opportunity.
Chi Qingwei was the first person who had captivated her attention so completely from the very first glance. It wasn’t just her stunning appearance but also her serene and elegant demeanor that had instantly captured her heart.
It was like a scene straight out of an idol drama, love at first sight.
Shen Zuofeng gave a bitter smile. What kind of situation was this? This kind of one-sided affection, where one party is interested while the other remains indifferent wasn’t this the classic dynamic between the second male lead and the female lead in an idol drama?
The second male lead never gets the female lead’s love.
When Xiaoxi returned to the waiting room, she saw that Young Master Chi was still leisurely sipping tea, seemingly unaffected by what had just happened.
“Young Master Chi, don’t you think Miss Shen was too rude just now?” Xiaoxi asked, somewhat puzzled.
Chi Qingwei raised her eyes and chuckled softly. Thinking about the slightly flustered expression on that alpha’s face, her smile deepened.
For an alpha, she was quite direct, yet more bashful than most.
“She’s quite adorable, isn’t she?” Chi Qingwei said lightly.
