Her Alpha - Chapter 1
Huai City bordered the sea, and the evening wind carried the scent of the ocean as it gently blew. Shen Zuofeng sat on a massive reef, gazing at the distant sea. The water was pitch black, making it impossible to see anything clearly. All she could hear was the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, one after another, rising and falling in an endless rhythm.
Shen Zuofeng lowered her head and looked at the palm of her right hand. The lines on it were clear and distinct, yet she let out a sigh.
It had been twenty-five years since she arrived in this world, and Shen Zuofeng still felt she hadn’t truly integrated into it.
Before crossing into this ABO world, a fortune-teller on the roadside had once told her, after reading her palm, that she was destined to face a calamity, one that would turn her world upside down.
Shen Zuofeng smiled bitterly. At the time, she hadn’t believed it, thinking he was just putting on a mystical act. Little did she know that such a calamity would indeed come to pass, completely overturning everything she had ever known.
After the car accident, she found herself in this world. Apart from its more advanced technology compared to her original world, humanity here had an additional secondary gender. Depending on their differentiation, individuals would become either an alpha or an omega, while those who remained undifferentiated were betas, retaining their original primary gender.
Shen Zuofeng felt disheartened. She didn’t like this world. In her eyes, alphas and omegas were nothing more than animals driven by pheromones. Once influenced by these chemical signals, they would lose their rationality and become creatures of pure instinct.
Having lived in this world for twenty-five years, she had witnessed far too many people losing their minds due to pheromones. Each time she saw it, a bone-chilling cold would wash over her. She feared that one day, she too would become like that.
From the moment she learned about the existence of secondary genders in this world, she had wished endlessly to be a beta who would never differentiate. Only betas were unaffected by pheromones, and only they could live as true human beings.
Shen Zuofeng stood up and returned to the shore. A black sports car was parked by the roadside, resembling a dormant beast waiting for its master to conquer it.
As she got into the car, her mood remained somber. But things hadn’t gone as she wished. Just because she wanted to be a beta didn’t mean she could become one. When she was sixteen, in her second year of high school, she had abruptly differentiated into an alpha during class. Her pheromones were so intense that every omega in the class was forced into a state of heat, while the alphas were overwhelmed and suffocated by the pheromone storm.
In the end, it was the betas, who were unaffected by pheromones, who handled the situation. They could sense the pressure but didn’t react as violently as the alphas and omegas. They administered suppressants to the omegas in heat and escorted them away from the area, while also helping the overwhelmed alphas retreat to safety. Thanks to their efforts, the incident didn’t escalate into an irreversible disaster.
After differentiating, Shen Zuofeng had fainted directly in the classroom. When she woke up, she found herself in a hospital, with her mother in this world, Fang Sujin, sitting by her bedside. Outside the door, she could hear the deliberately hushed voice of her father.
From their words, Shen Zuofeng learned that she had differentiated into an alpha,a top-tier alpha at that. Only a top-tier alpha could cause so many omegas to go into heat because of her.
The black sports car raced along the coastline. Whenever she was in a bad mood, she would come here to feel the sea breeze, hoping the sound of the tides could soothe her troubled heart.
By the time she returned home, it was already past eleven. Shen Zuofeng washed up in the bathroom, knowing she had to attend a meeting at Chilang Group the next day, an appointment she absolutely couldn’t miss.
Early the next morning, Shen Zuofeng opened her eyes. The glaring sunlight outside had already seeped through the gaps in the curtains, casting a faint, hazy glow into the dimly lit room.
After washing up, she prepared a simple breakfast. While she was still eating, the doorbell rang.
“Come in, the door’s unlocked.” Knowing that her assistant, Ning Wenjing, would come to pick her up for the Chilang Group meeting, she had left the door unlocked earlier.
“Good morning, boss. Did I come too early?” Ning Wenjing stepped inside and, seeing her boss still eating breakfast, felt a bit nervous.
“It’s fine. Have a seat. Have you had breakfast yet?” Shen Zuofeng spread some ketchup on her toast and noticed Ning Wenjing standing there awkwardly, so she asked.
Ning Wenjing was a recent graduate and intern who had been shadowing Cai Meilin, Shen Zuofeng’s usual assistant. Since Cai Meilin had been assigned to handle other matters recently, Ning Wenjing was tasked with accompanying her today.
“I’ve already eaten, boss.” Ning Wenjing sat down somewhat stiffly. This was her first time being in such close proximity to her boss. Although she had always heard that her boss had a good temper and was gentle with employees, having no prior personal interaction made her a bit apprehensive.
Shen Zuofeng smiled faintly, understanding her feelings. After finishing her breakfast quietly and tidying up, she grabbed the necessary documents for the collaboration and headed straight to Chilang Group.
Looking at the towering skyscrapers outside the car window, she felt as insignificant as an ant gazing up from below, a sensation that grew even stronger as she stood at the foot of Chilang Group’s building.
Ning Wenjing stood beside Shen Zuofeng, stealing a careful glance at her boss. With her tall, slender figure, her long, straight legs accentuated by tailored trousers, and the way she carried herself in a suit, she exuded a unique charm. Her skin was fair and delicate, her lips naturally red without any makeup, and her brown curly hair cascaded over her shoulders, softening her otherwise cool demeanor with a touch of elegance.
Possessing the beauty of an omega, yet being a genuine top-tier alpha Ning Wenjing, a beta, bit her lip. Honestly, she was envious.
“Hello, please wait in the reception room for a moment. Our Vice President Chi is running a bit late due to traffic. Our apologies,” the well-trained receptionist at Chilang Group escorted the two to the reception room, served them tea, and then returned to her post.
Shen Zuofeng sat down and glanced at her watch. The hands pointed to a quarter past nine they had arrived fifteen minutes earlier than scheduled.
“Xiao Jing, how is your internship going? Are you adjusting well?” Shen Zuofeng turned her head to look at Ning Wenjing. The girl still seemed quite innocent, but if Cai Meilin had arranged for her to accompany Shen Zuofeng, it was likely that Cai Meilin intended to nurture her.
“Ah, boss, the internship is going alright. I might be a bit slow and still need to learn more,” Ning Wenjing was startled, not expecting her boss to suddenly inquire about her work.
Shen Zuofeng nodded gently and reassured her, “It’s like that for everyone just starting out. Just keep learning.”
“Mm-hmm, thank you, boss!” Ning Wenjing quickly nodded, thinking to herself: The boss really is as gentle as they say.
Shen Zuofeng didn’t say anything more because she faintly caught a whiff of a scent in the air, a sweet, fresh orange aroma. Soon, the smell grew stronger, causing the nerves at her temples to throb.
An omega was in heat!
Shen Zuofeng immediately stood up, grabbed her bag, and followed the scent. Outside, the uncontrolled pheromones had already caused a minor commotion.
Controlling her own pheromones to resist the allure, Shen Zuofeng made her way forward and noticed other alphas rushing over as well.
Spotting the woman collapsed on the floor, Shen Zuofeng let out a soft sigh of relief. Chilang Corporation had measures in place for such emergencies, and two betas were already assisting the omega in heat.
“Miss! Where is your inhibitor? We can help you!” one of the betas asked anxiously, while the other held the omega in her arms to restrain her movements.
” I forgot to bring my inhibitor today,” the omega, nearly delirious from the heat, struggled to reply. Already panicked by the sudden onset, the realization of her oversight plunged her into despair.
“This…” The beta frowned. As betas, they didn’t experience heats and had no inhibitors on hand. With uncontrolled alphas closing in, there was no time to fetch one.
“Here, I have one,” Shen Zuofeng took an omega-specific inhibitor from her bag and handed it over. Watching as they injected the omega, she finally relaxed.
Grabbing an alpha who had rushed forward, Shen Zuofeng suggested to the two betas, “Her condition isn’t stable yet. Could you please take her to a safe place?”
The beta nodded. Chilang Corporation had prepared restrooms for omegas experiencing sudden heats. Earlier, the omega’s struggles had made it impossible to move her immediately, but now that she was calming down, they could escort her to the restroom.
As the omega’s pheromones weakened, the alphas who had been drawn in by the allure gradually regained their composure. They stopped in their tracks, looking around somewhat bewildered, before eventually returning to their original positions as if nothing had happened.
The alpha Shen Zuofeng had restrained snapped back to reality, thanked her, and left directly, as though the disruption caused by the omega’s heat was nothing out of the ordinary.
Shen Zuofeng released her grip and watched the alpha walk away. Even after experiencing this so many times, she still felt disgusted by such instinctive reactions.
Why don’t people learn to control their pheromones? An omega’s heat may be beyond the control of their will, but why can’t alphas put more effort into learning how to resist being lured by an omega’s heat?
Most alphas simply regard it as a natural instinct.
Shen Zuofeng had no time to dwell on these messy thoughts. She glanced down at her watch, the time was already 9:35, which meant she was five minutes late for the appointment!
Taking a deep breath, she quickly retraced her steps back the way she had come. She had heard that the young CEO of Chiliang Group, Ms. Chi, was someone who placed great importance on punctuality. Although Shen Zuofeng had arrived at the venue early, because of the incident along the way, she was indeed late for the scheduled meeting.
As Shen Zuofeng hurried back, she had no idea that all her previous actions had been observed by a pair of eyes.
“She’s special.”
As an alpha, her earlier behavior was already quite unusual among that group of alphas, not to mention pulling out an omega’s suppressant from an alpha’s bag.
