- Chapter 3 - Gazing Deeply at Those Rosy Lips Glossed Like Water
Xie Mingyao stared at the girl right in front of her, those pitch-black, unfathomable eyes seeming to conceal some terrifying beast within.
Her entire mind went blank, thoughts exploding into chaos, momentarily forgetting to push the other person away. Yet, Ye Qingyu remained composed, her long, straight lashes lowering slightly, her expression cool and unreadable.
After what felt like an eternity, Xie Mingyao finally snapped back to reality. The confusion and shock on her snow-white face gave way to panic as she frantically shoved the person off her.
“Ye Qingyu, have you lost your mind?!” The pampered young lady, who had never suffered such humiliation before, gritted her teeth in fury.
Ye Qingyu’s gaze lingered on those rosy lips, glossy as if coated with a layer of water, her fingers at her sides curling slightly. The lingering softness still remained on her lips.
After a pause, her voice dropped low. “My apologies.”
Xie Mingyao was so angry she wanted to hit someone. That had been her first kiss something she had saved for Zhou Yanfeng yet it had been stolen by some poor girl she didn’t even care for.
If Zhou Yanfeng hadn’t been present, Xie Mingyao would have slapped her without hesitation.
The system, sensing Xie Mingyao’s inner turmoil, tried to comfort her: [That was just an accident. Don’t dwell on it.]
Xie Mingyao’s lips curled imperceptibly, though she maintained an aggrieved expression. [I know, I will. Ever since I was bound to this role, I understood everything is for the mission. Even if I have to sacrifice anything of mine, I’m willing.]
The system was deeply impressed. This was the first time it had encountered such a dedicated villainess. Many employees at the Time-Space Management Bureau refused to play cannon-fodder roles like this.
Yet, for some reason, the system felt something was off about her words. But no matter how it thought about it, it couldn’t pinpoint what.
Seeing that the system hadn’t caught onto her act, a hint of slyness flashed in Xie Mingyao’s eyes.
“Stop pretending! You leave the moment I arrive, are you feeling guilty?” Xie Mingyao scoffed, her delicate features brimming with arrogance.
“Enough!” Zhou Yanfeng barely suppressed his anger as he stepped forward, gripping Xie Mingyao’s arm. His star-like eyes were filled with disdain. “Can you stop making unreasonable accusations? Ye Qingyu and I are just classmates.”
He’s engaged to me, yet he’s chasing the female lead behind my back and even has the nerve to say that.
Look at this, isn’t this the classic playboy’s line?!
And this domineering CEO grip on my arm disgusting!!
Xie Mingyao’s voice trembled with hurt as she retorted, “What do you mean ‘unreasonable’? You’re my fiancé, yet you’re having lunch with her here. How can you still claim it’s just a classmate relationship?!”
“I accidentally knocked her over yesterday. Today, I’m just treating her to a meal as an apology,” Zhou Yanfeng explained impatiently, worried Xie Mingyao might cause trouble for Ye Qingyu.
Xie Mingyao glanced between Zhou Yanfeng and Ye Qingyu, suspicion in her eyes. “Really?”
“Mm.” Ye Qingyu had already picked up the spilled food from the floor. Hearing Xie Mingyao’s question, she nodded lightly. Yet, when her dark eyes met Xie Mingyao’s, there was something peculiar in her gaze.
This young mistress believes it just like that?
Xie Mingyao let out a light hum, withdrawing her hand with an air of arrogance. “Enough. Don’t let me catch you pestering Yanfeng again,” she said dismissively.
Ye Qingyu had no desire to stay any longer, nor did she want to get entangled in their romantic games. Without bothering about her half-finished meal, she hurriedly left the restaurant.
Once she was gone, Xie Mingyao immediately brightened, wrapping her arms around Zhou Yanfeng’s arm with a coquettish tone. “Yanfeng, wait here for me, okay? I’ll go grab our food.”
A flicker of disgust flashed in Zhou Yanfeng’s eyes, but he nodded politely. The moment Xie Mingyao walked away, he swiftly exited the restaurant as well.
When Xie Mingyao returned with their meals, she found the table empty. Unfazed, she sat down calmly and leisurely ate her lunch.
As one of the school’s most talked-about figures, the incident between the three of them in the cafeteria quickly spread to every corner of the campus, thanks to prying eyes.
After finishing her meal, Xie Mingyao took a stroll around the school to digest before heading back to the classroom.
The moment she appeared, Zhou Ruohan and her two friends immediately swarmed around her.
“Mingyao-jie,” Zhou Ruohan sat across from her desk, looking at Xie Mingyao with concern.
Wang Yuzhen, on the other hand, wore an expression of indignation as she blurted out, “Mingyao-jie, everyone’s saying that Zhou-ge didn’t have lunch with you today, he was with that bitch Ye Qingyu instead!”
“Should we teach Ye Qingyu a lesson?” Tang Yan cut straight to the point. The other two looked at Xie Mingyao expectantly, clearly eager for action.
Xie Mingyao sighed inwardly but kept her tone indifferent. “No need. I already dealt with her at lunch.”
Tang Yan and the others exchanged glances.
The rumors circulating weren’t just about Zhou Yanfeng having lunch with Ye Qingyu, there was also the bombshell story about Xie Mingyao and Ye Qingyu accidentally kissing, which had left everyone stunned.
So when Xie Mingyao mentioned “dealing with her,” all three of them immediately pictured the kiss.
Was that the so-called “lesson”?
But since Xie Mingyao showed no intention of taking further action, Tang Yan and Zhou Ruohan didn’t press the matter. Wang Yuzhen, however, still seethed with resentment though she didn’t dare say much, especially after being warned at the school gate earlier.
That night, Xie Mingyao took a shower and climbed into bed early, planning to play some games before sleeping. Suddenly, Wang Yuzhen’s call came through.
“Mingyao-jie, come quick! Guess who I just saw?” Wang Yuzhen’s voice was brimming with excitement.
Xie Mingyao wasn’t the least bit interested. “Is this important? If not, I’m going to sleep beauty rest, you know.”
The original host had been utterly infatuated with the male lead, caring about nothing else. A true love-struck fool.
Wang Yuzhen’s eyes were locked onto Ye Qingyu, who was dressed in a waitress uniform, carrying a tray of drinks. Hatred burned in her gaze.
She wasn’t about to let this go.
So Xie Mingyao heard Wang Yuzhen say through the phone, “I just saw Zhou-ge at the bar! He’s with Ye Qingyu again, do you think he came here just for her?”
That immediately set off alarm bells in Xie Mingyao’s mind.
The system’s information had only provided a general outline specific details required her to act according to the character’s personality.
As such, Xie Mingyao had no idea whether the bar scene between Ye Qingyu and Zhou Yanfeng had actually happened in the original plot. But to stay in character, she had no choice but to get dressed again, apply some light makeup, and head to the bar.
Her hair, still slightly damp, was left loose as there was no time to redo her braids, and it was even harder to tie up in this state.
The private car soon arrived at the bar entrance Wang Yuzhen had mentioned.
Night had fallen, and the bar entrance was bustling with people coming and going, while a few others lingered nearby.
Some were wrapped around each other, whispering intimately, while a few couples couldn’t resist locking lips in heated kisses.
Before even stepping out of the car, Xie Mingyao spotted Wang Yuzhen standing at the entrance and couldn’t help but feel exasperated.
Who was the one catching someone in the act, her or Wang Yuzhen? If not for the fact that the records showed Wang Yuzhen liked another guy, she would’ve thought Wang Yuzhen had feelings for Zhou Yanfeng, given how eager she was.
Opening the car door, the driver drove off to park.
Wang Yuzhen rushed over, linking arms with Xie Mingyao and fuming, “That Ye Qingyu is just too shameless! She said she wouldn’t seduce Brother Zhou, yet she had lunch with him in the cafeteria at noon, and now she’s lured him all the way to this bar. Disgusting!”
Amid Wang Yuzhen’s endless chatter, the doorman pushed open the door for them. Stepping inside the bar felt like entering an entirely different world.
The deafening music pounded against their eardrums, strobe lights flashed, and the dance floor was a chaotic frenzy.
Xie Mingyao had never been to such a place in her past life and quickly averted her gaze, uncomfortable. “Where are they?” she asked quietly.
Wang Yuzhen’s eyes darted around. “When I left, I saw her heading to a private room on the second floor. Maybe Brother Zhou went there with her though he might’ve already left if he got wind of things.”
Xie Mingyao frowned. She had a nagging suspicion that Wang Yuzhen had tricked her into coming just to humiliate Ye Qingyu. If Zhou Yanfeng had really come for Ye Qingyu, why would he just run off?
But either way, since she was already here, she might as well take a look.
Following Wang Yuzhen’s lead, Xie Mingyao headed to the second floor.
Along the way, many leered at Xie Mingyao’s striking beauty, but they were either scared off by Wang Yuzhen’s aggressive name-dropping or shoved aside by Xie Mingyao’s impatient glare.
Her aristocratic aura, coupled with her expensive attire, deterred anyone from actually making a move.
They reached the second floor without incident. It was much quieter here, the thick carpet muffling their footsteps.
At the private room door, Wang Yuzhen pointed inside. “I think this is the one.”
Pushing the door open, they were met with bright lights and a group of men and women lounging on the couches some dressed impeccably, others in seductive outfits.
The air was thick with the mingling scents of alcohol, cigarettes, and perfume, making it almost unbearable.
Xie Mingyao coughed several times, irritated by the stench.
The atmosphere inside was rowdy, with over a dozen men and women teasing and cheering for one person, completely oblivious to the newcomers at the door.
The center of attention was none other than Ye Qingyu.
Dressed in a white button-up with a neatly folded collar and a black vest over it, paired with a knee-length black skirt, her outfit wasn’t revealing in the slightest.
Yet, on someone as cool and untouchable as Ye Qingyu, the uniform exuded an irresistible, restrained allure.
“How much can you really make as a waitress? Come on, dance and strip for us. Do it well, and all this money is yours.” On the sofa, a bald man with a beer belly held a seductive woman in his arms, his hands wandering restlessly over her body as he spoke with eager enthusiasm.
“Boss Wang has already raised the offer twice. Don’t push your luck,” someone else chimed in.
Ye Qingyu lowered her gaze, her expression cool and composed. She replied calmly, without a trace of submission, “I’m sorry, but I’m just a waitress. If you want to see a striptease, I’ll ask the manager to send over a dancer.”
With that, she turned to leave, but one of the young, handsome men stepped forward and grabbed her shoulder, his tone laced with irritation. “Stop pretending. You’re working in a place like this clearly, you’re here for quick cash.”
“Here, finish this bottle of wine, then give Boss Wang a proper dance. I’m sure he’ll forgive you,” another woman added, clicking her high heels as she approached with a smile. She held an already opened bottle of alcohol, pinching Ye Qingyu’s chin as she tried to force it into her mouth.
In the struggle, the crimson liquid spilled from the corners of Ye Qingyu’s lips and down her jaw, soaking her white blouse. The wet fabric clung to her, revealing glimpses of what lay beneath and accentuating her delicate figure.
The atmosphere in the private room grew even more heated. Some of the guests had already risen from their seats, moving toward Ye Qingyu.
She shoved the woman’s hand away, causing the glass to shatter on the floor. Staggering toward the exit, she was yanked back and thrown onto the coffee table.
Bottles and fruit platters crashed to the ground, but no one cared their eyes remained fixed on Ye Qingyu.
Her fingers brushed against a shard of broken glass on the floor. Clutching it, she stumbled to her feet, her gaze icy as she glared at the encroaching crowd. “Stay back.”
Wang Yuzhen sneered excitedly, “She’s getting what she deserves. After tonight, let’s see how she dares to show her face at school again.” She pulled out her phone from her bag, grinning. “I’m going to record this and show all the boys at school. So much for the ‘pure campus belle’, what a joke!”
