Help! Please Take the Heroine Away [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 24.1
Ye Qingyu lowered her head, her face drawing dangerously close to Xie Mingyao’s as their breaths intertwined.
At the entrance of the infirmary.
Zhou Yanfeng stood drenched in sweat, his athletic clothes clinging to his skin and outlining his well-defined abs. His star-like eyes bore into Ye Qingyu as he demanded in a low voice, “Ye Qingyu, if you don’t like me, is it Xie Mingyao you’re into?!”
A ripple of emotion flickered in Ye Qingyu’s calm eyes, but it vanished almost instantly.
She kept her gaze downcast and replied evenly, “We’re both girls. Don’t spout nonsense.”
“Nonsense?” Zhou Yanfeng sneered.
He had seen the way Ye Qingyu had looked at Xie Mingyao just moments ago. There were only three things in this world that couldn’t be hidden: poverty, a cough, and love.
“I never thought you’d fall for the Xie family’s spoiled, arrogant heiress. What’s so appealing about her? Her face? Her bratty personality? Or is it that she used her body to.”
The thought that someone like Xie Mingyao could win the affection of someone as aloof and indifferent as Ye Qingyu, while he himself faced constant rejection, filled Zhou Yanfeng with fury. His words grew reckless.
Before he could finish, Ye Qingyu’s dark eyes turned icy, as if frosted over. She raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face. “Shut your mouth!”
Zhou Yanfeng’s head snapped to the side from the force. He pressed his tongue against his cheek and turned back with a terrifying expression. “You’re telling me to shut up? Ye Qingyu, what if I told Xie Mingyao about your feelings? Do you think she’d be disgusted? Repulsed? Would she despise you?”
Ye Qingyu’s face instantly paled. Her head buzzed, her slender frame swayed slightly, and her vision darkened at the edges.
The usually cold and detached girl now appeared heartbreakingly vulnerable.
“Ye Qingyu, she’s my fiancée. She’s utterly infatuated with me like a dog. A mere crook of my finger, and she’d come running. She obeys my every word. Do you really think she’d even notice you if she were with me?” Thrilled yet enraged to finally see Ye Qingyu show emotion, Zhou Yanfeng pressed on mercilessly.
Ye Qingyu clenched her fists, the coldness in her eyes hardening into ice. Each word she spoke seemed to be wrenched from her throat. “What do you want?”
What did he want?
Zhou Yanfeng wanted to demand that Ye Qingyu date him, that she become his lover, that he could have his cake and eat it too, keeping her obedient and under his control.
But when he met Ye Qingyu’s murderous gaze, an inexplicable fear seized him. A chill crawled up from his feet, leaving his limbs numb.
The words died in his throat.
Ye Qingyu tilted her head slightly, her dark eyes fathomless. Her usually clear, melodious voice now dripped with venom. “Go ahead. Say what you’re thinking. I wouldn’t mind carving the flesh from your bones. Of course, you could try to guard against me. But as the saying goes, ‘A thief may steal for a thousand days, but no one can stay vigilant for a thousand.’ Don’t you agree?”
The excitement in Zhou Yanfeng’s heart instantly froze. A flicker of terror passed through his eyes because he understood. Ye Qingyu meant every word. She wasn’t someone he could threaten.
“Ye Qingyu, even if I don’t end up with Xie Mingyao, we will eventually get married, you know? A few days ago, her mother came to my house to discuss us studying abroad together.” Zhou Yanfeng, unwilling to admit that he had been intimidated, steeled himself and deliberately revealed this news with malice.
Ye Qingyu’s heart suddenly clenched. Her eyes lowered, long lashes trembling slightly, and her hands hanging by her sides curled faintly.
On the day Xie Mingyao was set to study abroad, the Xie family held a grand farewell banquet. Naturally, all their classmates were invited, while other students were selected based on their family backgrounds. Nearly all the classmates attended, bringing gifts along with words of reluctance or blessings.
Xie Family Villa.
The lights were dazzling, the piano music elegant. Women in gowns adorned with jewelry and men in tailored suits moved about, holding champagne glasses and chatting softly though this was the adults’ gathering.
The luxurious swimming pool in the villa’s backyard pulsed with music, a paradise for the younger crowd.
The clear water splashed as cheering youths dove in, boys and girls clad in sexy swimsuits. Tables were lined with champagne and fine liquor, while attractive young men and women in swimwear chased and teased each other by the poolside. A skilled DJ kept the atmosphere lively with practiced beats.
As the center of the banquet, Xie Mingyao naturally became the star of the show. Standing at a distance, Ye Qingyu quietly watched the girl in the crowd, resplendent in her gown.
A strapless mermaid-style red evening dress hugged her figure, while a matching set of diamond jewelry adorned her slender neck and snow-white earlobes, making her skin appear even more flawless, like fine jade.
Her delicate, radiant features were tinged with a faint flush from the alcohol, the teardrop mole at the corner of her eye enhancing her allure like a fiery rose swaying in the wind.
Ye Qingyu noticed the lustful or adoring gazes many boys directed at Xie Mingyao. Watching them step forward with ingratiating smiles, her heart sank deeper and deeper, plummeting into an unfathomable abyss.
Suddenly, footsteps approached from behind, drawing closer step by step. Yet Ye Qingyu remained still, not turning to look.
The footsteps halted beside her. A tall, well-built young man tilted his head to study Ye Qingyu’s cold, pale, and beautiful profile before speaking, his tone almost mocking:
“What’s the matter, heartbroken? Look at her radiant, dazzling. Look at the people surrounding her, all from influential families. Barring some miracle, you’ll never even afford the haute couture she’s wearing in this lifetime. How can you claim to love her? How can you dare voice that love, so out of step with the world?”
Ye Qingyu turned her head to meet Zhou Yanfeng’s gaze. In her usually dark, icy eyes, a glimmer of moisture surfaced under the moonlight.
That glimmer startled Zhou Yanfeng, stirring an unexpected pang of reluctance in his chest. But soon, his affection for Ye Qingyu was buried beneath resentment and anger.
He chuckled softly, enunciating each word: “Ye Qingyu, all you can do is watch helplessly as I step closer and closer to Xie Mingyao. We’ll get engaged, we’ll marry, she’ll bear my children…”
Zhou Yanfeng pulled a cigarette case from his suit pocket, took one out, and clamped it between his lips. Lighting it with a flick of his lighter, he strode toward Xie Mingyao.
By the time he finished his last sentence, his voice had already scattered into the wind and the clamor of the DJ’s music.
The crowd parted as Zhou Yanfeng appeared, making way for him to approach Xie Mingyao. Ye Qingyu watched as Xie Mingyao joyfully stepped forward, her slender, pale arms wrapping around Zhou Yanfeng’s arm. Her usually haughty face was now radiant with a brilliant smile, making her already striking features even more dazzling.
Zhou Yanfeng leaned down and murmured something, causing Xie Mingyao’s cheeks to flush a deeper shade of pink, as if brushed with rouge.
Amid the crowd, Xie Mingyao suppressed her disgust, her gaze drifting to a figure nearly blending into the shadows. Unlike the well-dressed men and women around her, this person wore simple jeans and a white T-shirt. Though her face was obscured, Xie Mingyao instinctively knew who it was.
The banquet lasted until the early hours of the morning before gradually winding down. Once the guests dispersed, the Xie family villa plunged into silence, the bright lights casting an air of loneliness.
Servants moved through the halls and courtyard, cleaning up the aftermath. Ye Qingyu followed Xie Mingyao, watching as she stumbled unsteadily in her high heels toward her bedroom before finally giving up and leaning against the corridor wall.
Ye Qingyu stopped as well, her dark eyes fixed on Xie Mingyao’s slender, graceful figure. Her heart pounded violently in her chest as she took two steps forward.
The sound of footsteps seemed to rouse the drunken girl, who turned her head. Her beautiful, clear eyes were unfocused and dazed.
She stared at Ye Qingyu for a long moment, making her heartbeat quicken even more. Taking a deep breath, Ye Qingyu knew Xie Mingyao was too drunk to recognize her, yet an inexplicable nervousness still gripped her.
After a while, Xie Mingyao slowly raised her hand, beckoning like one would to a puppy. Her words slurred as she said, “You… c-come here… help me… b-back.”
Realizing Xie Mingyao didn’t recognize her, a pang of disappointment flickered through Ye Qingyu’s heart. Lowering her gaze, she stepped forward, about to support Xie Mingyao’s arm when the girl suddenly collapsed into her embrace.
The soft body pressed fully against her, Xie Mingyao’s stunning face flushed like peach blossoms looming close in Ye Qingyu’s vision. Her plump lips glistened with moisture, irresistibly tempting under the corridor lights.
Ye Qingyu stared at her for a long moment. Just as the drunken Xie Mingyao began to impatiently push at her, Ye Qingyu wrapped an arm around the girl’s slender waist and lifted her into a bridal carry.
