Help! Please Take the Heroine Away [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 20
Ye Qingyu’s gaze rested silently on Xie Mingyao, unblinking.
From slightly behind, Ye Qingyu heard every word clearly. Her dark eyes instantly frosted over as she stared coldly at Wang Yuzhen’s profile.
Wang Yuzhen had deliberately let Ye Qingyu hear or perhaps she simply hadn’t considered Ye Qingyu worth her attention.
Xie Mingyao gave Wang Yuzhen another glance. This girl was truly vicious. They say you shouldn’t humiliate someone outright, yet she wanted the female lead to bark like a dog.
Seeing Wang Yuzhen looking at her eagerly, Xie Mingyao rolled her eyes and lowered her voice. “Have you forgotten what I said before? My mom told me not to bully Ye Qingyu.”
Wang Yuzhen’s expression stiffened. She clung to Xie Mingyao’s arm. “What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like your mom will find out.”
“That’s not the point. My mom said the more I bully her, the more Yanfeng will pity her. It’s just pushing him toward another woman.” Xie Mingyao shook off Wang Yuzhen’s hand and firmly shook her head.
Ye Qingyu watched Xie Mingyao quietly, her heart tightening slightly. Was this kindness now only because of Aunt Xie’s advice?
Wang Yuzhen wanted to say more, but after being brushed off by Xie Mingyao and recalling her earlier warning, she could only suppress her resentment.
Walking slightly behind, Ye Qingyu followed the three of them in silence, watching as they walked and chatted intimately. A suffocating frustration rose in her chest.
She didn’t want to see Xie Mingyao so close to others. If only Xie Mingyao could be this close to her alone preferably without that boy Zhou Yanfeng in the picture.
But she also knew none of this could ever be spoken aloud. Their statuses were worlds apart. Such feelings could never be voiced.
It wasn’t until they reached the classroom, with Wang Yuzhen and Zhou Ruohan taking their seats, that Ye Qingyu’s mood improved slightly. She sat down, pulling her textbooks from her bag.
Normally, the moment she opened her books, Ye Qingyu would immediately focus. But today, not a single word registered in her mind.
When the teacher entered and assigned morning reading tasks, she called on a few students to recite before class ended Ye Qingyu among them.
The class was used to Ye Qingyu reciting flawlessly, so they expected the same today. But she stumbled, struggling to get the words out.
Most of the class turned to her in surprise, even the teacher looking taken aback. However, the teacher had heard about the recent events between Ye Qingyu and Xie Mingyao and assumed it was affecting her.
The teacher couldn’t help but sigh. Ye Qingyu’s only weakness was her family background and right now, it was crippling. Her only way out was through her studies. If even that slipped away, her future might be lost.
She could only hope Ye Qingyu wouldn’t be too deeply affected.
With that thought, the teacher gestured for her to sit and called on another student to recite instead.
Once seated, Ye Qingyu felt her hands and feet turn cold. She didn’t care what her classmates or teacher thought, but with Xie Mingyao beside her, she burned with shame, wishing she could disappear.
Even though Xie Mingyao, playing on her phone, probably hadn’t even glanced her way.
In reality, Xie Mingyao had seen everything clearly from start to finish. When the game ended, she curled her lips into a smirk and leaned in, her face full of schadenfreude: “Oh, so this is what they call a model student? Can’t even recite a simple passage.”
The girl’s plump, crimson lips parted and closed in front of her, the slight protrusion of her lip pearl almost like an invitation for a kiss. Ye Qingyu’s eyes darkened, her mind fixated on finding another way to silence this young mistress’s mouth.
“What are you staring at? Keep looking and I’ll gouge your eyes out.” Seeing Ye Qingyu’s silent, shadowed gaze fixed on her, Xie Mingyao issued an irritated threat.
Though the young mistress couldn’t discern what Ye Qingyu was thinking, her sharp instincts made her uneasy under such scrutiny. Hence, her words carried no restraint.
But to Ye Qingyu, it was like a kitten extending its claws to scratch her, only to feel the soft pads patting against her skin instead.
She forced herself to look away and returned to her book.
Warm gusts of wind blew outside, but the air conditioning in the bedroom was icy cold.
Wang Yuzhen sat before the vanity, head bowed, fists clenched so tightly her knuckles turned white. Beside her stood a woman who shared her delicate features but bore the unmistakable marks of aging.
“If you can’t manage to snag any of those promising young men at school, don’t blame me for being ruthless.” Wang’s mother jabbed her exquisitely manicured nail against Yuzhen’s forehead, her tone dripping with disappointment. “What a waste of that pretty face, utterly useless.”
“How is this my fault? It’s all because of that Ye Qingyu! The moment she stepped into campus, 70% of the guys fell for that b*tch. All she has is that fox-like face her background is so low-class, who knows what diseases she might carry? And yet she acts all high and mighty.” The memory of lowering her standards again and again, only to be rejected while those men still pined after Ye Qingyu, twisted Yuzhen’s face with jealousy.
“That just proves how useless you are. Look at this Ye Qingyu you keep mentioning, no family background, yet she rejects those boys, and they still don’t turn on her. Now look at you.” Wang’s mother sneered, shooting her a sidelong glance before adding impatiently, “Enough. There’s no point in complaining. If you can’t land any of those wealthy, powerful, or favored young elites, then you’ll obediently meet and get engaged to the man I’ve arranged for you.”
The thought of the men her mother had lined up either hideously ugly or already divorced made Yuzhen tremble with rage. She fought back tears. “Mom, I’m your daughter. How could you push me into a pit of fire?”
“Pit of fire? I’m doing this for you! Don’t forget who gave you everything you have now. Your father’s illegitimate children, along with the son from his first wife, are ganging up on your brother. If he loses this power struggle, all three of us will be left with nothing.” Wang’s mother hissed through gritted teeth.
Yuzhen stiffened.
Her mother had schemed her way into the family by driving the first wife to her death. In their youth, they had lived in luxury, squeezing the original family out of their own home. But what good did it do?
Now, with her beauty faded, her father barely came home, and multiple illegitimate children competing for his favor, her mother’s son stood no chance especially against the first wife’s son, who saw them as sworn enemies.
Wang Yuzhen couldn’t imagine what kind of life she would lead after being driven out of the Wang family. She couldn’t help but shudder, and finally, with tears in her eyes, she nodded and said, “Mom, I’ll go.”
They were grasshoppers tied to the same rope, so she had to sacrifice herself for wealth and glory. However, she would never let Ye Qingyu off the hook, it was Ye who had ruined the rest of her life!!
Evening.
After returning home, Ye Qingyu had already become quite adept at bending down to pick up the slippers by the door. She walked to the sofa, knelt halfway, and helped Xie Mingyao change into her slippers.
Next, she went upstairs to draw a bath for Xie Mingyao, then, as usual, fetched the essential oils, shower gel, and other toiletries. Occasionally, she was even asked to help apply them to Xie Mingyao’s body.
After stepping out of the bathroom, Xie Mingyao, wrapped in a towel, lay on the bed. Without even needing to speak, she lazily lifted her leg, and Ye Qingyu immediately understood her intention.
First, she dried the water droplets from Xie Mingyao’s feet, then applied body lotion all over her body.
Emerging from the bathroom, Xie Mingyao felt somewhat drained. She lay lazily on the bed, her fair face tinged a soft pink from the steam. After being pampered so comfortably, her clear, beautiful eyes would narrow slightly in contentment, much like a well-fed cat basking in the sun.
Ye Qingyu’s gaze silently lingered on Xie Mingyao, unblinking. Unfortunately, Xie Mingyao, with her eyes closed, didn’t notice at all.
Meanwhile, the system in Xie Mingyao’s consciousness had observed Ye Qingyu’s increasingly obvious affection for her over these days, its data nearly scrambling in agitation.
But it didn’t dare show any sign of this, afraid that its host might develop other ideas something that wasn’t impossible, given past examples.
Hosts had leveraged the feelings of male or female leads to successfully turn the tables. But they weren’t part of the “comeback” group, what good would a comeback do them?!
After finishing her duties, Ye Qingyu said softly, “I’d like to go to the hospital.”
Xie Mingyao glanced at her but didn’t stop her, waving her hand dismissively. “Go ahead.”
Her manner was as if she were dealing with an inconsequential pet. Ye Qingyu pressed her lips together and left the villa.
The household staff, however, sensed something deeper.
The young mistress might seem to dislike this Ye classmate, even deliberately bullying her, yet they came and went together. So, very perceptively, they arranged for a driver.
Ye Qingyu didn’t refuse. The distance to the nearest bus stop was quite far, and walking would waste time.
When she reached the hospital room door, Ye Qingyu was about to push it open when she suddenly heard laughter inside. She paused, peering through the window in the door.
Her mother, who had recovered well after surgery, was sitting up in bed. Beside her sat Xie Mingyao’s fiancé, Zhou Yanfeng, saying something that had her mother laughing heartily.
Ye Qingyu frowned slightly and pushed the door open. The room fell silent instantly. Ye’s mother looked at her daughter and smiled warmly. “Xiao Yu, you’re here. This is your classmate, he’s visited me several times.”
“Ye… classmate,” Zhou Yanfeng stood up hesitantly, a smile on his handsome face.
Ye Qingyu lowered her eyes slightly, her long lashes casting a distant shadow. Her voice was cool. “Zhou classmate, thank you for visiting my mother.”
“No trouble at all. I’m bored anyway, and I really enjoy chatting with Auntie,” Zhou Yanfeng said somewhat awkwardly, waving his hands repeatedly.
To be honest, a wealthy and handsome guy being so considerate would probably move most people, but Ye Qingyu only found it annoying.
She didn’t like Zhou Yanfeng getting close, it always brought her a lot of trouble, and now she disliked it even more. But this guy, perhaps because of his privileged upbringing, just didn’t seem to take the hint, stubbornly clinging to her.
With her mother present, Ye Qingyu couldn’t say anything harsh. She could only give a slight nod and sit down to chat with her mother for a while.
“Xiao Yu, didn’t your classmate come?” Ye’s mother suddenly remembered something and glanced curiously toward the door.
Zhou Yanfeng pressed in a low voice, “What classmate?”
“It’s one of Xiao Yu’s classmates. I heard the surgery fees, hospitalization costs, and even this kidney were all arranged and paid for by them.”
