Healing the Black Lotus Female Supporting Character (Transmigration into a Book - ABO) - Chapter 37
Hua You froze.
Seeing the hesitation and pity in Hua You’s eyes, Bian Chengyi gripped her wrist tightly, forgetting to hold back her strength. “Don’t go, okay? You’re not allowed to just leave me like this—not completely disappear from my life…”
“Sister Bian—ow, please… let go of my hand first…” Hua You flinched in pain.
Warning. Warning. Target’s corruption level has reached the system’s critical threshold.
Her head was buzzing. A hundred tangled thoughts crowded her mind at once, and she couldn’t form even a single coherent response. But Bian Chengyi mistook that silence as rejection. The fear of losing Hua You took deeper root in her heart.
“I used to think I wasn’t afraid of being alone…”
“Even when my sister said her last words to me, I just promised her I’d try to make Mom happy.” Bian Chengyi continued quietly, “I thought… if my sister was gone, then I had to be better—become the pride of both my parents and her. Or when Xiaoyu told me she couldn’t walk this path with me anymore, all I thought was, ‘Ah, then I’ll have more time to study and improve myself.’”
“But you’re different, Hua You. You’re nothing like them.”
Her grip tightened even more, as if the moment she let go, Hua You would vanish without a trace.
“I’ve never imagined a life without you.”
“I can’t live without you.”
Warning. Warning. Target’s corruption value has reached 100%.
“I don’t want to use any tricks—or money, or guilt—to tie you down. And I know… if that system you talk about really exists, then no matter what I do, I still won’t be able to force you to stay.” Bian Chengyi’s voice was soft, almost to herself, but her gaze was fixed on the bracelet around Hua You’s wrist—as though it wasn’t a bracelet, but a set of shackles.
“So I’m begging you… If you don’t have anything tying you back to your original world… could you try staying?”
Could you try… truly loving me? Could you stay, for me?
Hua You let out a pained sigh and gently reached out with her free hand, brushing the top of Bian Chengyi’s head.
“Wasn’t it nice, how we were before? We could hug, hold hands, kiss… I’ll stay with you through the hardest days before the college entrance exam, and you’ll break free from this looping nightmare of senior year and start a life that’s truly your own… Isn’t that a good future?”
Bian Chengyi slowly tilted her head up and shook it, firm and unwavering.
“No. Not if you’re not in it.”
“If you’re with me, I can face a hundred lifetimes of repetition. If you’re not… even the brightest future feels meaningless.”
“I know… maybe there’s someone you care about in your original world. But I admit it—I’m selfish. I’m a terrible, selfish person.”
Don’t say that.
Hua You thought desperately. Please don’t say that about yourself.
But Bian Chengyi wasn’t finished.
“Even if there’s only a one-in-ten-thousand chance… I still want to fight for it. Even if I know this might not be what your heart truly wants, I still hope—hope you’ll change your mind.”
Hua You softly patted Bian Chengyi’s head again and wiped away the tears clinging to the corners of her eyes.
The sky had dimmed. Dusk bled like fire across the horizon. More and more people filled the amusement park, but even in the noise, Bian Chengyi could clearly hear Hua You’s voice.
She finally spoke:
“In my original world… I was an orphan. So, in terms of attachment, I don’t really have much to hold me back.”
“But in this world…”
“Things are a bit different.”
“Back where I’m from, there were only two genders—male and female. There weren’t six distinct genders like here.” She tilted her head slightly, her eyes drifting past Bian Chengyi to the far-off distance. “Romance between girls… it happens, but it’s less common than friendship. And marriage between two girls? Even rarer.”
“Honestly, Sister Bian, your world… it’s kind of dreamy.” Hua You chuckled lightly. “Even with all the complications—like ALPHAs and OMEGAs having their ‘special times and how pheromones can affect emotions—at least here, two girls can get married. Even two OMEGAs can be blessed wholeheartedly.”
“So, what I’m trying to say is… the beginning between you and me—it was influenced by pheromones, wasn’t it?”
“I don’t know…” Hua You sighed. “If you and I were just two ordinary girls in that other world, would we still have fallen in love?”
“Or maybe—let’s take it a step back. Let me ask something you can probably understand, Sister Bian… If you knew the real me, the true me, would you still like me?”
“Deep down, I’m someone who really doesn’t enjoy socializing, especially with people I don’t see any value in connecting with.” Hua You lowered her head. “To put it bluntly—take Qin Jing, for example. If I feel someone’s worldview clashes with mine, I’ll be incredibly cold and indifferent toward them. Some people have told me that’s wrong—that no matter how you feel about someone, you should at least be polite.”
“But hey, honestly? I don’t care what others say. I’m not gonna change!” Hua You glanced at Bian Chengyi with a smile just as she reached the end of her sentence, and the two of them shared a laugh. Watching Bian finally smile through the tears, Hua You’s heart eased just a little. “So yeah… I wonder if you could put up with my bad temper, Sister Bian…”
“And the most important thing is…” Hua You took a breath. “I want to know if our feelings—without any pheromone interference, without any special influences—would still be real. I know it sounds overly sentimental, maybe dramatic, or even a little irrational, but… I want to seriously think about that question.”
Then, leaning forward, Hua You gently kissed Bian Chengyi on the forehead as she knelt on the ground.
“So, Sister Bian… could you give me a little time?”
Bian Chengyi’s expression softened. “I think I understand what you’re saying now…”
“How about this—let’s pretend we never met. Let’s start over, from the beginning.”
“This time, I’ll be the one who ‘schemes’ to get close to you.”
After all the crying, Bian Chengyi finally managed a genuine smile. She pulled her phone from her pocket.
“Excuse me, beautiful and mischievous little demon princess…”
—”You look a lot like someone I love. So… can I have your contact info?”
Hua You quickly looked around, blushing furiously, and tugged Bian Chengyi up from the ground. “Sister Bian, get up! Come on—get up! That’s not what I meant when I said you could pursue me… Oh god, what am I even saying!”
Bian stood, sitting down beside her with a slightly pitiful expression. “So, dear little demon princess… may I ask this charming young witch for her name and contact information?”
“Fine, fine—take it. You can have it all!” Hua You pulled out her own phone and pretended to scan hers in return. “But once I give it to you, what do I get in return?” She narrowed her eyes playfully. “You’re not gonna trick me into brewing some weird potion for you at midnight, are you, Miss Witch?”
Bian Chengyi let out a soft laugh. “How could I, when the little demon princess is this beautiful…”
If I really were a witch, she thought, I’d take you back to a grand castle. I’d dress you in new gowns every day and offer you fresh roses—and fresh blood.
If only I could brew a potion that made you fall in love with me… that would be perfect.
But what she didn’t know was—
Perhaps the princess had already fallen first.
She just pretended to drink the potion…
And gave her heart willingly.
Still, Hua You thought— That surprise could wait until after the final exam.
So, for now, Hua You simply lifted her hand.
“Then, Lady Witch,” Hua You said softly, “I’d like to witness a miracle.”
She pointed toward the brightly lit Ferris wheel.
“It looks so plain during the day… and yet at night, it becomes dazzling—like a grand, everlasting firework that never fades.” Hua You gazed at the towering wheel against the evening sky and smiled with pursed lips. “I want to be inside that moment. I wonder if I might be lucky enough to invite Lady Witch to join me?”
“It would be my honor, Your Highness,” Bian Chengyi replied. “Though—might I first invite you to dine with me? When the night grows deeper, that miracle will shine even brighter.”
The two of them shared a smile, amused by each other’s mock-formal tone.
After dinner, they walked hand in hand toward the Ferris wheel. Inside the cabin, Hua You leaned close to the window, watching as the buildings and people below grew smaller and smaller. Her eyes shimmered with delight.
“So this is what it feels like… I used to read about it in essays—how people described flying for the first time. I guess it’s kind of like this.”
“I used to envy them so much. I’ve never flown in a plane—not once. I told myself that once I had enough money, I’d try it for sure.” Turning to Bian Chengyi, she asked, “Sister Bian, did you have any childhood dreams?”
Dreams…
If anything, maybe just one—to be loved.
To be seen, chosen, and unconditionally cherished by someone.
But Bian Chengyi didn’t say that. She didn’t want to burden Hua You with more emotional weight. So instead, she simply shook her head.
“Not really… But your dreams—if you’re willing—I’d like to help make them come true.”
“You wanted to be a chess vlogger, right? Then maybe I’ll be a legal-travel vlogger.” She gave a thoughtful smile. “When that time comes, if you’re still willing, we can fly together—across mountains, rivers, and oceans.”
“That sounds amazing.” Hua You’s dimples appeared as she grinned. “Sister Bian, we’re almost at the top.”
She paused, then added, “You know the rumor, don’t you?”
But Bian Chengyi said quietly, “It’s okay. I know we shouldn’t right now…”
“It’s okay,” Hua You whispered.
She leaned in. Their faces were just inches apart.
“When we reach the very top… let’s kiss.”
“Let’s say…”
— “A little devil just wanted to kiss a beautiful witch she happened to meet… high up in the sky.”
