The world knows Yun Heng as a paragon of virtue a cultivator whose power borders on the divine. Cold, selfless, and dedicated solely to the protection of all living things, she is often described as the most pristine, untouchable snow atop Mount Yunwu.

As Yun Heng’s only junior sister, Wen Qiwu harbored a secret from her youth: she was deeply in love with her senior sister. Knowing this affection could never see the light of day, she intended to carry it to her grave. However, she underestimated her own resolve; a single jar of celestial wine was all it took for years of restraint to crumble.

When she was imprisoned at Reflection Cliff, Wen Qiwu felt regret, but more than that, she felt a sense of relief. Born with a frail constitution and a terminal condition, she knew her time was short. She figured it was better to die without secrets.

Years later, a great war between gods and demons broke out. Perhaps thinking Wen Qiwu had finally moved on, Yun Heng left a voice transmission before heading to the front lines, telling her to stay safe at the sect and promising to make her favorite chestnut cakes upon her return.

Her senior sister hadn’t the heart to keep her locked away forever. Sadly, Wen Qiwu never got those cakes, nor did she see her sister again. Instead, she met the demon army during a sneak attack on the sect. To protect her home, she took the enemy commander down with her in a final, mutual destruction.

By a stroke of divine luck, her soul survived and she was reborn far away in a borderland, hatching from a spirit beast egg.

Despite the distance, she spent years intentionally avoiding any news of her past. Eventually, however, rumors of her senior sister reached her ears. Some storytellers claimed Yun Heng had been gravely injured in the war; others whispered scandalous gossip—that the Immortal hadn’t been wounded by a blade, but by an inner demon born from an unrequited obsession with her “White Moonlight.”

Wen Qiwu tried to ignore the absurdity of it all. Finally losing her patience, she transformed into a white bird, intending to teach the gossips a lesson. Instead, she was clumsy enough to get caught by a disciple of Mount Yunwu and sent to the Immortal as a pet to “soothe her boredom.”

Reunited with her sister after so many years, Wen Qiwu realized the rumors were true. The injuries were real, and the inner demon was very much present. Her once-laconic senior sister now spent her days locked in a room, clutching the birdcage and whispering fragmented, nonsensical thoughts. Beside her always sat a plate of stale chestnut cakes that no one ever ate.

Trapped, Wen Qiwu became her sister’s only audience. It was then she realized that every broken sentence Yun Heng uttered was a confession of a love that had never been delivered.
