The Immortal’s "White Moonlight" Reborn - Biting Her Lip
The girl who had just awakened bit her lip gently.
Under the weight of the Heaven’s Penalty, warm, crimson blood flowed down onto Wen Qiwu’s neck. She opened her mouth slightly, a weak, suppressed wail escaping her throat.
No… please.
A crimson haze flickered in Wen Qiwu’s eyes. Yun Heng was shielding her so thoroughly that she hadn’t sustained a single scratch under the divine wrath. But Wen Qiwu would have given anything to take those strikes for her Senior Sister instead.
Yun Heng’s vision was clouded by a faint mist of blood. The taste of Heaven’s Penalty was bitter; had she not been anchored by the person in her arms, she might have succumbed right then and there.
She felt something warm on her skin, perhaps her sister’s tears, or perhaps her own blood. Yun Heng reached out to touch Wen Qiwu’s face, wanting to tell her not to be afraid, but the blood surging in her throat robbed her of her voice.
The commotion of the penalty was horrific. The Immortal Venerable’s divine sword pierced through the clouds, and the collision of powers felt as though it might rend the very world asunder. The half-finished “Heaven-Veiling Formation” was no longer enough to hide a disturbance of this magnitude. Within the sect, disciples watched in awe and terror, some even speculating that Yun Heng was breaking through to the God Realm and witnessing an ascension tribulation.
But moments later, the snow-covered Wunwu Mountain erupted into white flames a pure, brilliant fire with a hint of cyan at its crest.
Then, a piercing phoenix cry rang out. From the heart of the flames, the phantom of a white phoenix soared into the sky, its long tail feathers leaving ethereal trails of cyan fire in the air. The cry traveled so far that almost every member of the Winged Tribes in the East Zhao Realm let out a sympathetic wail in response.
The Primordial Spirit Domain.
In this land belonging to the Beast Tribes, various powerful leaders—including the King of the Blue Luan, turned their gaze toward the East Zhao Realm. They felt their bloodlines surging, a primal instinct guiding them toward the source of that cry.
The phoenix phantom charged into the lightning clouds. This was no ordinary tribulation; the Heavens were intent on killing Yun Heng. The clouds were thick with the power of destruction and tyranny.
With the aid of the phoenix, the divine sword burst forth with a renewed, sharp radiance. Yun Heng seized the moment to sever her connection to the forbidden rite. After a final, violent surge, the Heaven’s Penalty finally began to lose its initial ferocity.
It took nearly half an hour for the divine punishment to finally cease. But the end of the lightning was only the beginning; Heaven’s Penalty is never that simple.
The Medical Immortal had intended to return to her valley to prepare medicine before coming back, but before she could even step out of the Wenshen Sect, that terrifying bolt had fallen.
Knowing the lightning hit Wunwu Mountain, she understood Yun Heng’s situation. The woman had been stuck in the middle stage of the True Immortal Realm for a century; without clearing her Inner Demons, a breakthrough was impossible. Therefore, the Medical Immortal knew that was no ascension tribulation.
If that child knew her sister turned into this after she died, she would be heartbroken.
The Medical Immortal had always carried a shred of guilt for failing to save Wen Qiwu, which was why she looked after Yun Heng more than most. But even the best healer cannot save someone who has a death wish. She had been ready to wash her hands of the matter, but she knew the sect members would just come hunting for her anyway.
She waited at Wanyao Mountain, unable to interfere with the divine strike. Sure enough, once the lightning stopped, a young woman came rushing in, cradling a blood-soaked figure.
The Medical Immortal opened the door and paused when she saw Wen Qiwu. This girl felt strangely familiar, though she was certain she had never seen this face before. Dismissing the thought as a trick of memory, she urged the girl to place the patient on the bed.
She first administered a life-preserving pill to Yun Heng before examining her injuries. As she worked, her expression darkened. Aside from the old lingering ailments and the fresh trauma from the lightning, Yun Heng’s body was now riddled with a chaotic mess of curses.
“Senior Medical Immortal… how is she?” Wen Qiwu’s voice trembled. Her clothes were stained with blood, all of which belonged to her sister.
When she had carried Yun Heng here, her sister’s breath had been so shallow it was almost non-existent. She didn’t even dare pray to the Heavens for safety—after all, it was the Heavens themselves that wanted her sister dead!
“Not good,” the Medical Immortal said bluntly. The words hit Wen Qiwu like a physical blow, making her knees buckle. The healer reached out to steady her.
“Please save her! I’ll find any medicine you need, just please save her” Wen Qiwu choked out, her eyes red and brimming with tears.
“I will do my duty, but whether she lives depends entirely on her! A patient who ignores doctor’s orders… even the greatest medicine cannot save her.” Though she felt pity for the girl, she had to be firm about the root of the problem.
Yun Heng’s greatest ailment was her heart. Aside from a few legendary terminal illnesses, the only thing the Medical Immortal couldn’t cure was a broken spirit.
“I understand! I will make sure she follows your orders!” Wen Qiwu promised without hesitation.
The healer raised an eyebrow. Make Yun Heng follow orders? Many had made that boast and failed. Unless that dead child came back to life, she didn’t believe Yun Heng would ever be a “good” patient.
But who is this girl? she wondered. She seems so close to Yun Heng.
“That would be for the best,” the Medical Immortal continued. “Her body is now infested with curses that mirror the aura of that lightning cloud. It’s troublesome. I recall that the Grave of the Phoenix Lord in the Infinite Tree Sea contains items that can break curses. If you get the chance, you should try your luck there. I’ll suppress the symptoms for now.”
“I’ll remember that! Also, I heard from A-Yue that you needed Jade Bone Grass for the Sect Leader’s medicine. Is there anything else? I’ll find it all!”
“The Jade Bone Grass isn’t enough anymore… her injuries are too deep. Curiously, her condition improved significantly a few days ago. I don’t know what spirit medicine she took then, but if we had more of that, it would be ideal.” The Medical Immortal sighed. She should have asked more questions when Yun Heng had looked so much better a few days back.
A few days ago… Wen Qiwu suddenly remembered. She had fed Yun Heng a drop of her Heart’s Blood. The heart’s blood of a phoenix was the ultimate restorative.
Even for a True Immortal, taking several strikes of Heaven’s Penalty had damaged Yun Heng’s very foundation. For days, she remained in a muddled sleep, unable to even open her eyes.
But A-Que.
A-Que seems to have come back.
In the darkness, she couldn’t see her sister and grew restless. Every time her anxiety peaked, someone would take her hand. That familiar, warm temperature smoothed over her nightmares.
Gradually, Yun Heng’s perception of the outside world sharpened. She realized someone was always by her side. That familiar scent… it felt like A-Que. The sensation brought her an indescribable peace.
Because her injuries were so severe, she needed time to recover. When she finally regained full consciousness, she felt a soft sensation against her lips.
The sweet fragrance made her head spin, followed closely by the thick scent of blood.
Blood?
Yun Heng’s eyes snapped open. She met a pair of startled, unfamiliar eyes. No—not unfamiliar. The soul reflected in those eyes… she knew it better than her own.
Yun Heng’s eyes grew red. Is this a dream?
Wen Qiwu had been feeding her sister her heart’s blood and hadn’t expected her to wake up so suddenly. She wasn’t trying to take advantage of her!
She tried to pull away and act as if nothing had happened, but the sister who had just woken up, her eyes watery and full of frantic longing proactively chased after her for a kiss. She bit down gently on Wen Qiwu’s lip, her touch both meticulous and tender.
