When the Major General Omega Picked Up a Little Snake Alpha - Chapter 2
Luo Qi let out a dazed laugh, his breath heavy with the scent of alcohol.
A light sniff revealed a hallucinogenic grape note, while a deeper taste unraveled into rose. It was rich and layered, more sophisticated than the finest wine in the world.
He found himself quite liking this “drink.”
Fine beads of sweat broke out on Luo Qi’s pale, jade-like forehead. He leaned against the small glass enclosure, his eyelashes trembling as his consciousness flickered in and out.
The room felt as if someone had pressed a pause button, every gaze in the area fixed solely on him.
He was the Empire’s only Omega Admiral, a man who could lead a front-line charge even during his heat, using his pheromones to precisely disrupt the enemy.
Luo Qi’s freakish level of pheromone control was common knowledge.
And yet, here he was… slumped weakly beside a tiny snake.
The Alphas were starstruck. For a moment, a heavy silence fell, no one wanting to shatter this rare, vulnerable tableau.
A few seconds later, however, an aggressive scent of red wine burst forth, pressing down from above like a visible storm cloud.
Jiang Luoyi, being the closest, was the first to suffer. He retreated two steps, breathing shallowly, already teetering on the edge of losing control.
“Everyone, fall back,” Fang Xi said, stepping in front of Jiang Luoyi. “The medical team is here. Leave this to us.”
The medical team consisted entirely of Betas, they were the only ones who could be relied upon right now.
“No, that snake is a mutated freak!” Jiang Luoyi’s dark red eyes flashed with fury. “It’s trying to mark the Admiral!”
“Snap that snake’s neck! Stew it for soup!”
The Alphas surged forward, shouting, but as the pressure intensified, one soldier dropped to his knees, retching. The others struggled just to keep their footing.
“You’re overreacting, it’s just a hairless little snake,” Fang Xi said, remaining the only calm person in the room. He knelt down to pull Luo Qi’s disheveled coat closed. “Adjutant Jiang, do you know what you should be doing right now?”
Jiang Luoyi pinched the webbing of his thumb hard to snap out of it. “All soldiers, use your suppressants on the spot. Lock down this floor. No one leaves without orders!”
Just as he finished, several Betas carrying medical kits navigated through the rows of cargo shelves. They worked with practiced efficiency, leaving two behind to administer shots to the Alphas while the rest gathered around Luo Qi.
“Commander Luo, how are you feeling?” Fang Xi placed the back of his hand against the man’s forehead.
“I’m fine.” Luo Qi opened his eyes, his vision clearing significantly.
“Commander, please come with us for an examination,” a medic said, bringing over a stretcher. “We need to ensure your health.”
Luo Qi arched a delicate eyebrow. “You want me to lie on that?”
“Take the stretcher away,” Fang Xi told the others, shaking his head. Then he looked at Luo Qi. “Can you get up on your own?”
Luo Qi rose from the floor, Fang Xi offering a steadying arm for support.
His General wasn’t that fragile. Having followed Luo Qi for years, Fang Xi could read his condition at a glance.
Luo Qi leaned half-way against the wall, looking down to observe the little snake. He idly brushed a stray lock of hair from his ear, a lingering smile playing on his lips.
“Quite a formidable little guy,” he chuckled. “I feel excellent right now.”
Even the feverish waves racking his body had receded.
The little snake’s pheromones were a perfect match for him. In just a few minutes, the discomfort of his heat had been completely soothed.
“Where did this snake come from?” He straightened his collar, glancing around the room. “I’m keeping it.”
“That might be inappropriate,” Fang Xi cut in immediately. “The snake is confiscated property and has already been logged. It’s supposed to be sent back to Planet Landon.”
“Is that so?” Luo Qi’s fingertip tapped against the glass box. The little snake retracted its tail, hiding entirely within the roll of newspaper. “And who did the logging?”
“You should go to the infirmary for a check-up first,” Fang Xi advised gently. “As for the snake, Adjutant Jiang knows the details. He’ll report to you shortly.”
“Have him come over now,” Luo Qi waved the medical team away. “I’m fine, go look after those Alphas first.”
Jiang Luoyi had injected himself with a suppressant and leveled out quickly. Years of serving under Luo Qi had forged his self-control into iron.
As the chaotic pheromones in the air began to dissipate, he glanced toward Luo Qi. The Admiral was talking to Fang Xi, the flush on his face gone, replaced by his usual porcelain complexion.
“Luoyi, come here,” Luo Qi beckoned.
Jiang Luoyi tossed the syringe into a bin, pulled down his sleeves, and smoothed his hair. He caught his reflection in a nearby metal cage, making sure he looked sharp.
He stepped up to Luo Qi. At 195cm, he stood half a head taller than the Admiral. He was built like a powerhouse but with fluid muscle, his tight uniform accentuating his long limbs. He looked every bit the model soldier.
As a former “campus heartthrob” at the military academy, Jiang Luoyi didn’t lack confidence, but that confidence usually withered in Luo Qi’s presence.
He always felt he wasn’t quite worthy of the General.
He was just a young Brigadier General, yet Luo Qi had hand-picked him as his adjutant.
“Luoyi, what’s on your mind?” Luo Qi’s voice snapped him back to reality. “I asked you a question.”
Jiang Luoyi pulled himself together, his gaze unintentionally lingering on Luo Qi’s pale, soft Adam’s apple.
“Apologies, Commander,” he cleared his throat. “I lost control for a moment, I’m still adjusting.”
“I don’t blame you, this snake is S-rank,” Luo Qi said with a nonchalant smile. “Tell me, who logged these animals?”
“Yu Ma did the logging, and I supervised the entire process. This was a lapse on my part, and I’ll take full responsibility. I’ll have the snake sent to the lab for disposal at dawn.”
“Who said anything about disposal?” Luo Qi tapped the glass. “What a wonderful toy.”
“A toy!?” Jiang Luoyi’s voice spiked. Inside, the snake seemed startled, shifting beneath the crumpled newspaper. “Commander Luo, what do you mean by that?”
“I’ll keep it as a pet. Find an isolation box for it,” Luo Qi said, turning back to Fang Xi. “Its pheromones match mine perfectly.”
Fang Xi remained silent. He had noticed it too, the General’s heat had subsided significantly. The snake’s pheromones were acting as a sedative for Luo Qi.
“Fang Xi, what do you think?” Luo Qi asked his attending physician. “This snake works better than stabilizers, and you won’t have to stab me with needles every day.”
Fang Xi’s calm expression finally showed a crack.
“Commander Luo, we need to investigate where this snake came from, its species, and why it mutated. I believe you’re being reckless, disregarding your own safety.”
“As long as it’s locked up, what could go wrong?” Luo Qi shrugged. “Like you said, it’s just a hairless little snake.”
“Commander, the lab can extract its pheromones directly. There’s no need to keep it by your side,” Jiang Luoyi reminded him.
“This snake cannot fall into anyone else’s hands,” Luo Qi shook his head. “I’ll find a veterinarian I can trust.”
“Well, yes, but…” Jiang Luoyi frowned. “The snake is on the official record. It won’t be easy to just make it disappear.”
“That’s why I’m coming to you,” Luo Qi smiled at him. “Once we’re back on Landon, find a regular snake that looks similar and swap them. We’re keeping this one.”
“No, but… I mean…” Jiang Luoyi’s face scrunched up.
“Do you have a problem with that?” Luo Qi lowered his gaze, though his lips remained curved. “Luoyi, are you going to listen to me, or those old fossils at HQ?”
“To you, of course!” Jiang Luoyi declared instantly. “Then it’s settled. I’ll handle it.”
“Good. Go find an isolation box and bring it up.”
As Jiang Luoyi went to fulfill the order, Luo Qi placed his palm against the glass, watching closely.
The little snake still wouldn’t come out, hiding shyly.
How could such a timid snake have the nerve to seduce him?
Luo Qi tapped the glass with his knuckle. “Come on, little guy, show your face.”
The crumpled newspaper didn’t budge.
“You could stretch your pheromones so far earlier, why are you shrinking away now?”
“It’s just a snake, it doesn’t understand human speech,” Fang Xi couldn’t help but interject. “When you said you wanted it as a toy, what exactly did you mean?”
The only useful thing about this snake was its pheromones. How did the General plan to “play” with it?
“I’ll use it as incense,” Luo Qi said, leaning his elbow on the glass and continuing his persistent tapping. “Whenever I feel unwell, I’ll just take a sniff.”
“I see.” Fang Xi felt a strange sense of relief.
“However,” he continued to bargain, “you’ve never kept a snake. Until a vet looks at it, please do not open the cage alone.”
“I know, Xizi,” Luo Qi replied patiently. “It’s just a snake.”
Xizi was Fang Xi’s personal name, used only by close friends. Fang Xi’s hand unconsciously gripped the hem of his coat.
“You should learn to relax a bit, we’ve been reassigned back now,” Luo Qi said, leaning back against the wall. “There won’t be as many chances to get hurt, you don’t need to worry about me all the time.”
“Yes, I know.” Fang Xi crossed his arms, restraining himself. “I’ll adapt.”
“A return to peace,” Luo Qi said, watching the busy soldiers nearby. He felt a sudden sense of tranquility. “Enjoying the peace.”
“I’m planning to request that the battleship be stationed at the South Star,” he said, tilting his head toward Fang Xi. “I never asked, is there anywhere you want to go?”
“You mean…?”
“You’ve been my doctor for so many years. If you want a taste of freedom, I can let you go.”
“I have nowhere else I want to go,” Fang Xi’s voice dropped a few decibels.
“Don’t you want to find a partner?”
“No, you’re the one who should find a” Fang Xi stopped himself, feeling a tightness in his chest.
“I hate Alphas,” Luo Qi said, tilting his head back and narrowing his eyes like a proud little fox. “Except for my comrades.”
“The ceiling for Alphas is very high, but their floor is very low,” he smiled. “An unrefined Alpha is no better than a beast. But the ones on our ship are different, they’re battle-hardened elites.”
“That’s only because you lead them well,” Fang Xi said, staring at the distant figures. “What do you think of Jiang Luoyi?”
“A very promising Brigadier General. I’ll recommend him for further grooming.”
A very formal answer.
It was expected. Fang Xi knew his General wouldn’t fall in love with anyone.
“If you don’t like Alphas, have you considered an exceptional Beta?” Fang Xi asked in a businesslike tone. “When we get back, your father will likely bring up marriage again.”
“It’s fine, he can’t control me,” Luo Qi laughed. “Ever since he was transferred to the North Star, we’ve barely seen each other”
Thump. A sound came from inside the glass box. Luo Qi turned and saw that the pile of crumpled newspaper had moved to the section of glass closest to him.
It seemed to have bumped against the box. A tail wriggled beneath the paper, and then the snake’s head poked out.
The head was glossy and black, rounded and flat, narrowing slightly at the snout. Two small, golden eyes sparkled on either side.
“You don’t look venomous, do you?” Luo Qi leaned in for a closer look. The little snake raised its head to meet his gaze. “Are you saying hello?”
The snake flicked its tongue at him a tiny, pink sliver that vanished instantly.
“Xizi, what kind of snake is this?” Luo Qi was mesmerized. “Its eyes are beautiful.”
From different angles, the snake’s scales reflected a subtle, elegant blue-purple sheen. Its eyes were perfectly round, and up close, one could see a vertical slit pupil embedded in what looked like golden, transparent gems.
The little snake gazed at Luo Qi, its forked tongue darting out again.
“Be careful, there’s something wicked about this snake.”
From Fang Xi’s perspective, the snake’s head was angled upward, as if it might lung at Luo Qi’s face at any moment.
“Wicked? I think it’s quite cute.”
“When an Omega’s pheromones blend with an Alpha’s, it creates a sense of dependency,” Fang Xi explained expressionlessly. “You might be under its spell.”
“Fang Xi.” Luo Qi stood up, the smile vanishing from his face.
Sensing the Admiral’s displeasure, Fang Xi fell silent.
“Contact a vet on Planet Landon,” Luo Qi said as he brushed past. “I’m going up to sleep for a bit. I want this snake in my cabin by tomorrow morning.”
“Understood,” Fang Xi replied, bowing his head.
Luo Qi took the private elevator back to the top floor. Fang Xi did not follow.
It was past 2:00 AM. As he walked through the curved corridor, the scent of red wine was no longer present.
He actually missed it. After such a short time, he was already starting to crave that “wine.”
He knew Fang Xi had been telling the truth, but he simply didn’t want to hear it.
The little snake had affected him. For the first time, he had developed an interest in an Alpha’s scent.
Fortunately, this Alpha wasn’t human.
