Synopsis
“People’s nature always favors compromise and moderation. For example, if you say this room is too dark and suggest opening a skylight here, everyone will certainly object. But if you advocate tearing down the roof, they will come to compromise and agree to open a skylight.” (Quoting Lu Xun)
The ‘white moonlight,’ Zhou Jingting, was the skylight Yu Lanzhou wanted to open. Chen Ran was the roof she tore down.
For the year Chen Ran was Yu Lanzhou’s “canary,” she was anxious, fearful, yet filled with joy. But Yu Lanzhou remained the moon she could never reach.
Yu Lanzhou did dote on her, doting on her so many times that Chen Ran thought she had developed genuine feelings for her. Yet, Chen Ran was once angrily shouted at with “Get out!” for being mistakenly accused of throwing away a gift Zhou Jingting gave to Yu Lanzhou. There was also one night when Yu Lanzhou was meticulously caring for her drunk white moonlight inside the room, while Chen Ran, just outside the door, desperately suppressed her body from coughing up blood, making sure not to make a sound.
When the contract expired, Chen Ran quietly left her.
However, on a gray, moonless night, Yu Lanzhou unusually sought out Chen Ran on her own, bowing her head and pleadingly saying: “You told me to believe that you would never stop loving me.”
The arrogance in her eyes was gone; the snow mountain had melted for her. Chen Ran was silent for a moment, then smiled and said: “Auntie Yu, don’t take things said in bed too seriously.”
Before Yu Lanzhou chases her wife: Don’t cry. Get out. Move out immediately.
After Yu Lanzhou chases her wife: Please like me, okay? Love me, okay? Only love me, okay?
