Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 55
Before proposing, Bai Shuixi was extremely anxious.
So anxious that she could barely focus on work.
A marriage proposal was an important matter, especially since Bai Shuixi had been ignored once before. This time, she had to make it romantic and surprising enough to move Xia You.
But that raised the question, how should she arrange it?
A grand confession on the LED screen at G City’s central square? A helicopter landing with a shower of petals? Or a quiet getaway on a small island, pretending it was just a vacation before popping the question?
Xia You loved the ocean, so an island might work but then again, it might not feel lively enough.
No matter how she planned it, Bai Shuixi always found something unsatisfactory, unable to land on the perfect solution. Fortunately, she wasn’t the type to wallow in emotions. Whenever she felt negative, she never indulged in self-doubt, she just kept brainstorming new ideas and backup plans.
This approach was undoubtedly proactive and efficient, but it also meant her anxiety spread much wider.
Her secretary, He Jiu, married executives at the company even Xin Wensheng and Bai Yun weren’t spared. Before they knew it, they were cornered in the old Bai family mansion in G City, forced to listen to Bai Shuixi pace around, meticulously dissecting every detail of her proposal plans only for her to scrap them moments later.
By then, Xia You had already confirmed that Bai Shuixi’s mental state was truly stable and had returned to her counseling practice for a while.
Meanwhile, Xin Wensheng and Bai Yun, the long-absent chairwoman of the Bai Group, Bai Shuixi’s biological mother and the original host’s greatest backer in the story, had finally returned from London. Officially, it was a vacation, but unofficially, they were also there to keep an eye on Bai Shuixi.
However, neither of these formidable mothers had expected Bai Shuixi to be this nervous.
With her laptop resting on her knees, Bai Shuixi sat on the sofa in Bai Yun’s study, repeatedly refining a flowchart of the proposal scene. Five times, she came up with an idea only to discard it. Finally, out of inspiration, she couldn’t help but glance at Bai Yun. “Chairwoman Bai, how did you propose to Mom back then?”
“This child,” Xin Wensheng chided lightly as she passed behind Bai Shuixi, tapping her head, “what are you calling your mother?”
“Oh.” Bai Shuixi glanced at Xin Wensheng before correcting herself, “Mother.”
Bai Yun, who had been polishing an antique watch behind her expensive stone desk, only turned her head after hearing Xin Wensheng’s voice. Then she said, “I didn’t propose.”
“Huh?” Bai Shuixi frowned.
“That’s right, I was the one who proposed to your mother,” Xin Wensheng said, wrapping her arms around Bai Yun from behind and leaning against her affectionately. “Back then, so many people were chasing your mother, it made me furious. In a fit of anger, I just proposed outright to stake my claim first.”
As she spoke, Xin Wensheng pinched Bai Yun’s cheek playfully.
Bai Yun neither denied it nor resisted, merely lowering her eyes with a faint smile. “I was just vacationing in the South of France when you shoved a grass ring on my finger and insisted it was a proposal. What could I do?”
Bai Shuixi: “…”
This was getting annoying.
Bai Yun was the kind of person who seemed cold at first glance and in reality, she wasn’t particularly emotional either.
The first time Bai Shuixi came face to face with Bai Yun, she almost thought she was looking in a mirror. Their indifferent attitudes and that aloof, dismissive gaze were so similar that Shuixi occasionally wondered if Bai Yun was just as detached in her marriage.
But now Bai Yun was clearly flaunting her affection.
And being so intimate too with Xin Wensheng pursuing her no less. Damn it, why do the secretly passionate ones always get so lucky?
Shuixi had just about enough of these two. Slightly exasperated, she headed out the door.
Honestly, rather than watching Xin Wensheng and Bai Yun’s utterly unrelatable display of affection, she’d rather go home and wait for her sister to finish work.
That evening, Xia You, who had returned home on time after work and had just finished dinner with Shuixi, noticed something off about her mood. Shuixi kept sitting by the bed, lost in thought, looking somewhat unhappy.
Not knowing what was troubling her little alpha, Xia You crawled across the soft bed and wrapped her arms around Shuixi. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
Shuixi blinked, her expression softening as she turned to hug Xia You back. “It’s nothing,” she mumbled.
Xia You couldn’t help but laugh. “Does this look like ‘nothing’ to you?”
“You haven’t been spending time with me,” Shuixi grumbled quietly, frowning. After a pause, she asked, “Is there anywhere you really want to go lately? Or something you want? Maybe get a cat?”
“A cat could work,” Xia You said, immediately distracted. “But didn’t you dislike having too many living things at home? Did your germaphobia get better?”
Shuixi: “……”
Shuixi silently changed the subject. “Any places you’d like to visit?”
“Recently? Not really. We still have work, don’t we?” Xia You kissed Shuixi, coaxing her as she pulled back the covers and tucked the frowning Shuixi into bed. “Let’s wait a bit. Once your project wraps up, we can go somewhere fun.”
At this answer, Shuixi perked up immediately, turning to gaze intently at Xia You. “Where do you want to go?”
“Hmm, I haven’t thought about it yet,” Xia You replied casually, assuming Shuixi was planning a vacation. “Somewhere with a view of the sea, maybe.”
So it was the sea after all?
Shuixi pondered. An island probably wouldn’t work too far. Sneaking Xia You there without raising suspicion would be tricky, not to mention arranging for witnesses. Bai Yun’s island didn’t even have space for guests, and decorating would be another challenge.
“You know, drifting on the sea under the stars sounds pretty nice too,” Xia You murmured sleepily. “If we could get a boat, maybe we could stay out at sea for a bit?”
A boat?
That’s right, a boat!
Shuixi’s eyes lit up instantly, and without thinking, she leaned over and kissed Xia You.
The problem that had plagued her for half a month finally had a perfect solution. It wasn’t just about getting a boat, she already had one, ready to take Xia You out to sea anytime.
“Mmm, what was that for?” Xia You mumbled, roused by the kiss.
“Nothing. Just felt like kissing you,” Shuixi said with a smile, gently stroking Xia You’s cheek and ruffling her hair. “Go to sleep now. Don’t you have work tomorrow?”
Xia You gave Shuixi a suspicious look but couldn’t find anything unusual. Half-convinced, she murmured, “You should sleep too.”
“Yes, we will.” Bai Shuixi lowered her gaze and gently kissed Xia You’s forehead before reaching up to turn off the bedside lamp.
The room darkened, the blackout curtains blocking all external light, leaving only the two of them quietly embracing in the quiet space.
Xia You thought the matter was settled, but one weekend after work, Bai Shuixi abruptly pulled her into the car.
“What are you doing?”
Xia You set her small designer bag aside and settled into the passenger seat, glancing curiously at Bai Shuixi behind the wheel. “Why are you driving today?”
Bai Shuixi turned her head with a smile. “Taking you somewhere.”
“Where?” Xia You asked casually.
Instead of answering, Bai Shuixi gestured toward the glove compartment. Puzzled, Xia You opened it, only to be greeted by the rich fragrance of roses. A bouquet of vibrant ‘Carola’ red roses lay inside, their petals still glistening with dewdrops. Beneath them, a soft, cloud-like LED pad cast a warm glow, making the flowers shimmer brilliantly.
Xia You blinked in surprise, her beautiful eyes lighting up as she carefully lifted the bouquet. “What’s all this about? Why are you suddenly giving me flowers again. Wait, what’s this?”
As she lifted the bouquet, she realized the dazzling effect wasn’t just from the light. The flowers themselves sparkled wrapped in decorative paper, their dark stems loosely adorned with irregularly shaped platinum diamond chains. Glancing at them, Xia You estimated the largest stone was over five carats.
“Also for you. Wear them however you like just a little trinket. Now, let’s go have some fun.” With that, Bai Shuixi started the car and merged onto the highway.
It was already late. Xia You assumed they were heading to a restaurant or hotel for a romantic dinner, but the car sped out of the city, onto the freeway, and finally to the nearest port outside G City.
The usually bustling harbor, alive with fishing boats, was eerily quiet tonight. The docks were pristine, and as dusk settled, tiny lights twinkled like stars.
Xia You gasped the moment she stepped out of the car.
Stretching hundreds if not thousands of meters ahead, the industrial steel structures typical of a port were wrapped in slender string lights. Flexible tubing encased the wiring, and between the shipping containers nestled iridescent ‘Mermaid’ roses. The air, usually thick with gasoline, metal, and sea salt, had been transformed into a fragrant garden.
Dazed, Xia You heard the lapping waves beneath her and looked down only to find petals floating on the water’s surface.
Speechless, she turned to Bai Shuixi, who stepped beside her and lightly clapped her hands.
The gesture seemed to signal something more. Before Xia You could ask, a blinding light erupted at the end of the steel walkway.
A slumbering giant awoke, its tiers illuminating one by one. Colored beams spilled from the top, casting shimmering reflections across the sea.
At the same time, the port’s coastline lit up with ultra-bright fog lamps designed solely for navigation during heavy mist, instantly illuminating the harbor waters as bright as daylight. The light reflected off the petals floating romantically on the waves along the shoreline, swaying with the evening breeze.
Xia You stood at the center of the radiance, holding a rose entwined with diamonds, momentarily dazed.
“Here, the promised ship,” Bai Shuixi whispered softly as she approached Xia You, her voice impossibly tender. “Want to take a look?”
Xia You blinked, casting a doubtful glance at Bai Shuixi.
She felt like she understood something, yet it all seemed too extravagant.
If it was that kind of occasion, surely there was no need for such an elaborate setup?
Maybe it was just coinciding with something else?
Uncertain, Xia You placed her hand in Bai Shuixi’s palm, letting herself be led step by step across the steel walkway lined with LED lights.
No one else walked the path just the two of them.
The string lights and drifting petals marked the boundaries of their path. As Xia You inhaled the mingling scents of flowers and sea salt, she glanced at Bai Shuixi’s profile and suddenly felt as though they were walking down an aisle, pledging their lives to each other.
But even if this wasn’t that moment she and Bai Shuixi would surely have it one day.
With crisp, rhythmic footsteps, the two arrived before the massive luxury cruise ship so grand it could rival a hotel.
Only when she got close did Xia You notice the ship’s steps and railings were entirely adorned with flowers, transforming the vessel into a floating garden.
“Do you like it?” Bai Shuixi asked again, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Xia You opened her mouth but found herself speechless.
It wasn’t that she didn’t like it, it was just too much.
As if reading her thoughts, Bai Shuixi smiled, her eyes curving with a gentleness that surpassed any expression she’d shown in the past year, and led Xia You aboard.
To Xia You’s relief, the deck wasn’t as empty as she’d feared. A few blond, blue-eyed foreigners sat scattered around at different tables, their relaxed atmosphere shifting into cheerful celebration as they raised champagne flutes in greeting, their smiles as bright as if welcoming the New Year.
Xia You: “…?”
She turned to Bai Shuixi in confusion. “Why are they?”
“Shh, they’re the ship’s maintenance crew,” Bai Shuixi pressed a finger to her lips. “Never mind them, come see this first.”
Still holding Xia You’s hand, Bai Shuixi guided her deeper into the ship. Doors slid open automatically as they passed through the corridors, finally arriving at the grandest banquet hall on board.
The moment the doors opened, every single person Xia You could consider family or friend was there. All eyes turned toward them at once.
The attention was intense, yet the atmosphere wasn’t stifling.
Unlike the rigid layouts of typical galas or auctions, the banquet hall had no strict divisions. The spacious area was filled with entertainment setups, as if everyone had gathered both to celebrate and to witness a love story written in the stars.
“Auntie Madam.” Xia You felt a bit overwhelmed, watching Xin Wensheng and Bai Yun approach slowly, unsure of how to react.
Xin Wensheng smiled at Xia You and gave her shoulder a reassuring pat, her gaze warm and nostalgic. She gestured behind Xia You and said, “Take a look. She’s been preparing this for a long time.”
Xia You froze for a moment before turning around to see Bai Shuixi taking a ring box from a child with angel wings.
Behind her, Xin Wensheng raised her hand, and the bright lights in the banquet hall dimmed in concentric circles. The guests gradually quieted down until only a single spotlight remained, illuminating Bai Shuixi and Xia You. Even Xin Wensheng and Bai Yun stepped back, leaving only the two of them in the center of the light.
Bai Shuixi took a deep breath and opened the ring box.
Inside was a stunning pink diamond, at least five carats, set in a platinum band adorned with smaller diamonds. The entire ring looked fresh and beautiful.
Xia You stared at it, her heart overflowing with joy, yet it all felt surreal. Her head spun slightly, as if she might lose her balance at any moment.
Then, she watched as Bai Shuixi carefully took the ring from the box, inhaled deeply, and asked:
“Xia You, Miss Xia my love, will you marry me? Will you enter into a lasting, stable, healthy relationship with me, one where we promise to love each other forever? Will you?”
Xia You stood frozen for two seconds before her eyes welled up with tears. She bit her lower lip to hold back the overwhelming emotions, hastily extending one hand and nodding, a little flustered, before discreetly wiping away a tear.
Now she understood why Bai Shuixi had seemed so preoccupied lately, she had been planning this surprise all along.
No wonder she had never rushed marriage yet remained certain that one day, they would walk down the aisle together.
Those who are loved always take it for granted.
Bai Shuixi took Xia You’s hand and slowly slid the ring onto her finger.
The sound of confetti cannons filled the hall, colorful streamers fluttering through the air as golden paper rained down. The popping of champagne corks and celebratory cheers rose in waves, filling the room with lively noise.
Seizing the moment, Bai Shuixi leaned in and gently embraced Xia You, murmuring contentedly, “Don’t cry, don’t cry, my love. Didn’t I promise you a healthy relationship? Of course, that means marriage.”
Xia You hugged her back, nodding through her quiet sobs.
By now, the hall had erupted into celebration, some were pouring champagne, others setting off more confetti, a few adjusting the music to switch to a lively DJ track, and some simply wandering around in search of desserts. Friends and strangers alike mingled, everyone relaxed and joyful. Even Bai Yun, who usually detested noise, wore a faint smile.
Everything was exactly as Bai Shuixi had envisioned.
She hadn’t wanted the proposal to center solely on the two of them, as if they were performers on a stage showcasing their love for an audience.
She wouldn’t have minded, but for Xia You, that might not have been the best experience.
This was perfect everyone genuinely happy for their engagement.
The banquet had been underway for about half an hour, and the hall was already buzzing with excitement. Xia You and Bai Shuixi had made their rounds, greeting everyone they needed to. Suddenly, Bai Shuixi leaned in mysteriously and said, “Just wait a little longer. There’s actually one final surprise tonight.”
Xia You, still holding a mousse cake someone had handed her moments ago, looked puzzled and surprised. She couldn’t imagine what else Bai Shuixi had planned after such a formal and perfect evening. “What else is there?” she asked.
Bai Shuixi raised a finger with a smile, then stepped aside to make a call.
Within seconds, fireworks lit up the coastline, their dazzling colors exploding in the sky and instantly drawing everyone’s attention. Even Xia You couldn’t help but turn to look, wondering if this was the surprise Bai Shuixi had mentioned.
But Bai Shuixi didn’t linger. She quietly took Xia You’s hand and led her away from the crowd, moving toward a spot outside everyone’s line of sight.
Xia You: “…”
As they walked farther from the crowd, Xia You couldn’t resist asking, “Where are we going?”
Bai Shuixi glanced back with a smile. “A little surprise. Just follow me.”
She led Xia You to a lower deck of the cruise ship, entering a dark but spacious area.
“Lights on,” Bai Shuixi said.
Her cool, melodic voice echoed in the space, the reverberations hinting at its vastness. As soon as she spoke, fluorescent lights flickered on, revealing an awe-inspiring industrial metal scene before Xia You.
A soaring ceiling and raw steel walls enclosed the expansive area, making it feel like they’d stepped into a sci-fi battleship hangar. Not far below, seawater lapped at the platform, submerging a significant portion of the steps. A small yacht was docked at the edge of the steel platform.
Bai Shuixi tugged Xia You’s hand playfully and guided her toward the yacht. “Come on.”
“Wait, what are we doing?” Xia You snapped out of her daze.
“You’ll see in a moment.” Bai Shuixi led her onto the yacht and gestured toward the control panel.
Under Xia You’s astonished gaze, the steel wall in front of them slowly lifted, revealing the open sea beyond! Waves shimmering with the scattered light of fireworks rushed in, causing the yacht to sway slightly.
Steadying Xia You, Bai Shuixi guided her to the cockpit and flipped several switches, starting the engine and steering the yacht out to sea. They slipped away from prying eyes, embarking on a romantic escape while their friends and family continued celebrating. It was just the two of them now.
“The stars you wanted to see!”
Bai Shuixi didn’t go far before stopping the yacht in the quiet expanse of the ocean. She took Xia You’s hand and led her to the deck, tilting her head up toward the night sky with a smile. “Look.”
Xia You followed her gaze and was met with a breathtaking view of the Milky Way, something impossible to see in the city.
Countless stars dotted the sky like scattered diamonds on a velvet-blue canvas.
The thought made Xia You smile.
“What are you laughing at?” In the gentle sea breeze, Bai Shuixi looked at Xia You with a gaze so tender and profound, it seemed to reflect countless stars.
“I’m laughing.” Xia You paused, her eyes curving into crescents as she said, “I’m laughing because this starry sky reminds me of you.”
Expensive, beautiful, and proud reluctant to reveal itself easily.
Yet once glimpsed, it becomes unforgettable, an endless pursuit that makes one realize just how addictive and irresistible such allure can be.
Understanding Xia You’s sweet words, Bai Shuixi narrowed her eyes with a smile and said, “Oh, you like the starry sky, so you like me too.”
“Of course,” Xia You naturally averted her gaze, “I do like you.”
Bai Shuixi paused, touching her chest, feeling that no matter how long they’d been together, hearing Xia You say she liked her still made her heart race.
Fortunately, Xia You was hers now.
Bai Shuixi smiled, leaning in to embrace Xia You from behind, clinging to her as she held up Xia You’s hand. She stubbornly kissed Xia You’s ring-adorned finger and whispered, “Tonight should belong just to the two of us.”
Xia You: “Mm.”
Before Xia You could respond further, the second wave of fireworks lit up the sky. These were far more elaborate than before vibrant in color, even featuring rose-shaped bursts.
“This is what I really wanted to show you,” Bai Shuixi murmured softly by Xia You’s ear. “Do you like it?”
“I do.”
Under the dazzling brilliance of the night sky, Xia You could no longer hold back. She turned and kissed Bai Shuixi.
She would keep loving her.
Not just the fireworks, but even more the one who gave them to her.
