Forced to Romance the Omega Psychiatrist - Chapter 47.2
Meeting family wasn’t the issue, but…
Her pulse quickened involuntarily. She flexed her fingers, forcing down the flicker of hope as she asked as calmly as she could, “What role would I be meeting them as?”
Fortunately, it was a red light, and the car was stopped at the intersection. Otherwise, Bai Shuixi’s momentary distraction might have already veered them into another lane.
But Xia You didn’t know that.
The moment she spoke, she regretted it a little, feeling that the timing she had impulsively chosen might not have been the best.
What if Bai Shuixi rejected her? Wouldn’t that leave her with no way out?
Xia You awkwardly averted her gaze, not daring to look at Bai Shuixi’s reaction. “Y-you don’t have to if you don’t want to. I was just, just saying it casually. Mm—”
Mid-sentence, Xia You’s voice suddenly cut off. A slender, delicate hand pinched her cheek, cool fingertips sinking into the soft flesh.
Bai Shuixi had taken off one of her gloves and turned Xia You’s face toward her with that grip.
Xia You: “……?”
Bai Shuixi was close, so close that Xia You could almost see the unusual glint in her eyes beneath those long lashes, the faint scent of perfume drifting from the collar of her shirt.
During meetings, Bai Shuixi always wore an aloof, indifferent expression, as if she were above it all. When alone with Xia You, she often seemed preoccupied, though she still joked around, there was always an air of distance about her.
This was the first time Xia You had seen something akin to burning intensity in Bai Shuixi’s eyes.
“…W-what are you doing?” Xia You swallowed lightly, her throat suddenly dry, and instinctively tried to lean away.
Bai Shuixi didn’t answer. She studied Xia You for a moment, then leaned in, closed her eyes, and pressed a soft kiss to her lips.
Xia You: “!!!”
Bai Shuixi didn’t linger. After that brief touch, she pulled back, her cool gaze fixed on Xia You as her thumb brushed over Xia You’s lips. Her eyes burned like fire beneath ice, the possessiveness unmistakable:
“Jiejie, if you take me home, I’ll be expecting a title. Have you thought about how you’ll introduce me?”
Her voice was slightly hoarse, carrying a restrained kind of allure.
Xia You froze, her throat bobbing as she stared at Bai Shuixi, unable to speak.
Bai Shuixi watched her reaction with deliberate patience, then let out a soft laugh.
The red light’s countdown quietly ended in that moment, and the car behind them honked impatiently. Amid the sharp blare of the horn, Bai Shuixi calmly turned back to the driver’s seat, started the car, and pressed the accelerator.
She wasn’t in a hurry for Xia You’s answer. As long as Xia You was considering it, that was enough.
If the feelings were genuine, the answer would come naturally, no need to rush.
Relaxed, Bai Shuixi guided the steering wheel as the G-Class merged back into traffic, heading toward her residential complex.
After that, Bai Shuixi and Xia You finally had a few peaceful days together.
For a full half-month, no one and nothing disturbed them. Bai Shuixi could quietly spend time with Xia You, occasionally stealing a kiss or sharing a tender moment. Though they had tangled together enough times to nearly end up in the same bed, they hadn’t actually crossed that line.
Doing the same thing too often would make it lose its novelty.
Sitting in the study, sipping coffee as she stared at the screen, Bai Shuixi couldn’t help but smile at the thought of the occasional pouty, aggrieved look Xia You gave her.
Adorable.
It was true that she liked Xia You, but until now, Bai Shuixi had only ever experienced teasing flirtation and inexplicable hookups. She had no idea how to make Xia You date her.
Bai Shuixi didn’t know how to proceed safely, so she could only try her best to keep Xia You interested, hoping Xia You would like her preferably care about her more, even more than that so she’d have the courage to confess.
In this matter, she didn’t want to take any risks at all.
Apart from this, while handling work, Bai Shuixi continued to monitor the Bai family’s movements.
The Bai family harbored resentment over Bai Ye being sent away, but they didn’t dare confront the Bai Corporation directly. Instead, they took it out on insignificant minor players.
Fang Shangzhe’s shady past was quickly exposed by the Bai family, leaving him practically homeless soon after.
Bai Shuixi had been calmly observing the situation all along, showing no intention of protecting Fang Shangzhe. It wasn’t until Fang was completely cornered, just one step away from being ‘silenced’, that Bai Shuixi leisurely snatched him away right under the Bai family’s nose.
With Fang Shangzhe’s testimony, the evidence chain proving Zhou Wanwan’s scheme against Xia You was now complete.
Whenever Bai Shuixi wanted, she could reveal everything to Xia You.
Her phone chimed at the perfect moment. A glance confirmed it was a message from He Jiu.
Fang Shangzhe’s current location had been pinpointed and displayed on Bai Shuixi’s phone. The arranged personnel were already in position, ready to go ‘have a chat’ with him at any time.
Bai Shuixi smiled slightly, set down her coffee cup, and stood up to grab the coat hanging nearby.
In the living room, Xia You who had been studying the juicer, looked up in surprise at the darkening sky outside when she saw Bai Shuixi emerge with her coat. “Are you going out?”
“Yeah, some business to take care of.”
In high spirits at the prospect of fully controlling the situation, Bai Shuixi leaned across the kitchen island to plant a kiss on Xia You’s cheek.
Her cool lips lingered for two seconds before she straightened up, a faint smile still in her eyes as she gazed at Xia You. “I’ll tell you everything when I get back.”
Xia You blinked in bewilderment.
Dazed, she watched Bai Shuixi leave, then absently touched her cheek before looking down at the prepared fruits waiting to be juiced.
There was something different about Bai Shuixi today, she seemed unusually cheerful.
Indeed, Bai Shuixi was in excellent spirits. The thrill of having everything under control was incomparable, just one last step remained to eliminate all risks.
Then she could do as she pleased. With Xia You, they wouldn’t have to part so hastily. There’d be more time together, a chance to fight for their future.
A discreet black Phaeton was already waiting at the building’s entrance. Bai Shuixi stepped out and slid directly into the backseat as the car pulled away smoothly.
The front-seat occupants seemed to know their destination already, not a single unnecessary word was spoken.
He Jiu, in the passenger seat, handed Bai Shuixi a tablet after she settled in, its screen displaying the target’s real-time location.
Watching the blinking red dot, Bai Shuixi’s soaring mood gradually settled as rationality took over.
Her expression remained largely unchanged, save for a subtle hardening in her gaze that instantly made her appear cold and formidable.
“Everything under control?”
“Rest assured, boss,” He Jiu nodded. “All arrangements are in place.”
Fang Shangzhe had first been targeted by the Bai family, who exposed his residence. Then his past misdeeds were dug up.
This information was directly circulated among the wealthy elite, helpfully notified to every enemy he’d ever made. Debt collectors, vengeance-seekers, and opportunistic grudge-holders all came for him at once.
After fleeing G City in disgrace, Fang was cornered by old clients outside the city, forcing him to sneak back to G City. Just when he thought he’d bought some time, he walked right into Bai Shuixi’s hands.
The Phaeton drove for nearly two hours before stopping. Bai Shuixi looked up to see dust-covered ground and gloomy concrete walls.
This was an abandoned construction project in the suburbs of G City. Originally intended to be a shopping mall, the project had stalled halfway when the construction company ran into financial issues, leaving behind only half-built structures.
The door of the Phaeton opened, and Bai Shuixi stepped out with an indifferent expression. Her high heels clicked against the rough, mottled concrete, her immaculate appearance starkly out of place in the desolate surroundings.
Glancing at the dust settling on her shoes, she tilted her head slightly and cast a disinterested look at the violently cut iron chain behind her before speaking coolly, “He’s here?”
“Yes, he’s already waiting inside,” He Jiu replied in a low voice.
“Then let’s make this quick,” Bai Shuixi withdrew her gaze and stepped over the thick layer of dust in the abandoned site, her tone light. “This place is practically a rat hole.”
On the sixth floor of the unfinished building, Bai Shuixi’s men stood guard.
The interior was vast and open, with only the cement floors smoothed out. The walls weren’t even fully constructed, leaving the space drafty and exposed.
Burly men in black suits secured the entire floor, two of them standing behind Fang Shangzhe, keeping a dutiful watch over him.
Once a man who prided himself on his polished appearance wherever he went, Fang Shangzhe now looked utterly disheveled. His once-decent clothes were wrinkled and stained with dirt, his unshaven face a mess. The black roots growing out from his artificially dyed yellow hair only added to his unkempt appearance.
Kneeling on the ground, Fang Shangzhe still wore a sneer despite being restrained, his voice laced with hatred. “Hah, which family do you belong to? Going to such lengths to hold me. What do you want to know?”
No one answered him. In the silence, the sharp click of high heels against concrete echoed through the hollow building, steady, unhurried, yet carrying an inexplicable weight.
Fang Shangzhe unconsciously held his breath, his mind already muddled from days on the run. His expression twisted into a snarl as he muttered, “Who, who is it?”
“Still got some fight in you, huh? Taunting like this, do you not fear death?”
A clear, careless woman’s voice rang out.
The sleek black heel of a boot stepped onto the final stair, and a tall, cold-faced woman emerged from behind the black-suited bodyguards. She stopped in front of Fang Shangzhe with an amused smirk, looking down at him. “Do you recognize me?”
“You!” Fang Shangzhe was stunned. Of course he knew that face not just because of her striking looks, but because of who Bai Shuixi was.
He didn’t recall ever crossing paths with the Bai family!
“Hmm, what a mess you’ve made of yourself,” Bai Shuixi’s gaze swept over his filthy clothes. She didn’t step closer, keeping her distance as she asked, “Weren’t you quite the troublemaker before? I heard you even sold information about me to Bai Ye?”
Whether Fang Shangzhe had other means of monitoring her or not, Bai Shuixi knew for certain from their past conversations as social media “friends” that he had indeed reached into her affairs.
“No, not exactly,” Fang Shangzhe indeed panicked, though he tried to maintain his composure as he defended himself. “I only provided information about that Miss Xia, I didn’t!”
“What’s the difference?”
Bai Shuixi didn’t even let him finish. Her high heel slammed into Fang Shangzhe’s shoulder, sending him sprawling backward.
“Reaching for someone under my protection, how is that any different from selling me out directly?”
Fang Shangzhe coughed twice, still struggling to catch his breath, when the two black-suited men standing nearby dragged him back and forced him to his knees at Bai Shuixi’s feet.
“Daring to scheme against me, do you have a death wish?”
Bai Shuixi didn’t particularly like having him so close. Disgust flickered in her eyes as she glanced down, just catching sight of Fang Shangzhe’s hands pressed against the ground. She tucked her own hands into her coat pockets and casually raised her foot, crushing his fingers beneath her heel.
Fang Shangzhe’s scream erupted the next second, echoing far into the distance.
Bai Shuixi frowned, kicking his hand away with distaste. “Think carefully. If you’re tired of living, I have plenty of ways to send you off.”
Fang Shangzhe curled up on the ground in pain, sweat dripping as he shook his head frantically. “N-no, no, please. Whatever you want to know, I’ll tell you everything.”
“Is that so?” Bai Shuixi lifted the hem of her coat slightly, crouching down to meet Fang Shangzhe’s eyes. A cold amusement glinted in her half-smile. “Then why don’t you think harder, when was the first time we met?”
Fang Shangzhe froze, finally recalling their encounter at the mall, when he’d been tempted to take advantage of that Omega who’d been framed by Zhou Wanwan.
Back then, he’d thought that even if he gained nothing, having leverage over Xia You to manipulate her later would be worthwhile. But all his plans had been shattered by Bai Shuixi’s sudden appearance.
That had been their first meeting!
Bai Shuixi had been watching him all along. So, even cornering him now had been part of her plan from the start!
Trapped under someone else’s control, Fang Shangzhe wisely avoided bargaining. Swallowing hard, he cautiously gauged Bai Shuixi’s mood before speaking in a trembling voice:
“I was just following orders. I’m just a lackey. I know some details about this whole thing, I can gather everyone involved, and I can even point out.” He hesitated, stealing a glance at Bai Shuixi before adding carefully, “I can identify the person who hired me.”
Success.
Bai Shuixi’s lips curled slightly, though she suppressed any visible satisfaction. Standing up, she glanced at He Jiu and nodded toward Fang Shangzhe, still sprawled on the ground. “Arrange a place for him. Assist him in whatever he needs. Don’t lose him before I get everything I want.”
Fang Shangzhe exhaled heavily in relief, knowing he was safe for now.
But before he could fully relax, a man in a black suit hurried over and whispered something into Bai Shuixi’s ear, Li Wei from Rixin Entertainment had gone to the house where Bai Shuixi and Xia You lived, and she’d arrived shortly after Bai Shuixi left.
“What?!” Bai Shuixi’s brow furrowed, her anger flaring instantly.
These days must not have been easy for Li Wei either. After Zhou Wanwan’s role was replaced, there weren’t any good enough roles to take its place immediately. Seeing Tianyin and Song Zhe’s attitude, people in the industry were somewhat hesitant about continuing to collaborate with Zhou Wanwan. Coupled with Bai Shuixi’s hints and exclusion, Li Wei’s position at Tianyin had actually been significantly downgraded, and many of her projects had slipped away.
At a time when she could barely keep her own head above water, how did she still have the leisure to stir up trouble at Xia You’s place?
Bai Shuixi clenched her fingers. Though this wasn’t a big deal by any means, she inexplicably had a premonition that things were about to spiral out of control.
Now that Li Wei had been demoted and Zhou Wanwan had gone to Hong Kong seeking opportunities, so…
Bai Shuixi rapidly ran through the original plot in her mind. Before she could finish analyzing possible scenarios, her assistant’s voice suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
“President Bai, Miss Xia is on the phone.” He Jiu, observing Bai Shuixi’s expression with some unease, handed over the phone.
Bai Shuixi took the phone and glanced at it, her heart sinking slightly as she answered, “Hello?”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Xia You’s hesitant voice came through, “Shuixi could you, could you do me a favor? No, I mean, could you help bail someone out?”
Bai Shuixi was quiet for a moment, then slowly exhaled.
Fang Shangzhe, half-sprawled on the ground, cautiously looked up and was surprised to see the previously fierce and cautious young woman suddenly seem drained of energy, her shoulders slightly slumped, appearing almost weary.
“It’s because of Li Wei again, isn’t it?”
Bai Shuixi lightly closed her eyes, too tired to even say anything more.
This might actually be the first time Xia You had called her by name, and yet again, it was because of Li Wei.
Always Li Wei.
