- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 16 - A Grandson Out of the Blue
Xue Yufen was sitting in the courtyard, basking in the sun while sipping tea and chatting with her close friends.
“Oh, by the way,” one of them started. “Yufen, how come you’ve been keeping it such a secret that Yanxiu has a child?”
Xue Yufen, who had been spacing out, suddenly heard her name mentioned and turned her head in confusion. “What child?”
“Oh, stop it, your grandson!”
Xue Yufen’s eyes widened, her astonishment growing.
“My goodness, that boy Yanxiu is certainly a dark horse, doing big things behind our backs. From the looks of it, that child must be three or four years old already, right?”
Luo Yishu picked up her phone and began swiping through the screen. “Here, take a look. Is this Yanxiu?”
“Yuran was accompanying Qianqian to the hospital for a checkup yesterday when they happened to run into them. He snapped a photo for me. Look for yourself, who else could this be but Yanxiu?”
The group huddled together, peering at the phone screen.
A chorus of voices broke out. “Oh, it really is Yanxiu!”
“The child is already this big, so when is the wedding? Xiaoyu is a good kid, gentle personality, though being a doctor means they’re a bit busy with work.”
Xue Yufen didn’t hear a single word of the chatter. She grabbed the phone, zooming in and out on the image. She stared at it with increasing intensity, as if she wanted to crawl right into the screen.
Luo Yishu noticed her friend’s hands were trembling as she held the device. The smile on her face faded slightly, and once the others had drifted away, she pulled Xue Yufen aside and lowered her voice.
“Is the child not Xiaoyu’s? Don’t let yourself get too worked up. Whatever the situation is, talk it over calmly with your son. Don’t say anything in a fit of rage.”
Anger? Xue Yufen was nearly dying of excitement!
Forget anger! That little brat! No wonder he hadn’t spent much time at home these past few years! It turns out he had a family elsewhere! The child was already this big, yet he hadn’t said a word!
Xue Yufen was simultaneously furious, thrilled, and relieved. Her emotions were so complex in that moment that her expression couldn’t quite keep up, making her features look slightly distorted.
Luo Yishu thought she had caused a disaster. “Oh dear, I’m telling you, don’t be so caught up in those old-fashioned views about social status. In my opinion, Yanxiu is so capable, he should be allowed to make his own decisions about his life. Don’t interfere. If you step in blindly, things might go wrong.”
Xue Yufen ignored her friend’s advice, focusing instead on the little boy in the photo who was slumped over Liang Yanxiu’s shoulder.
Oh, heavens. Those chubby cheeks. Those big, bright eyes. Wasn’t this child the spitting image of her Yanxiu?
“Are there any more photos?” Xue Yufen asked, her voice thick with emotion as she wiped away a tear. “Is this the only one?”
“Yes, just this one.”
“Send it to me. Oh, my heart, my heart is racing with excitement. That little brat, keeping something this huge from us, honestly! I don’t know which family’s daughter he’s led astray. That little rascal, just wait until I get home and deal with him!”
Though she spoke of “dealing” with him, the smile on Xue Yufen’s face was brighter than anyone else’s.
Luo Yishu sent the photo over. “It really isn’t Xiaoyu’s?”
Xue Yufen shook her head. “I don’t know. When I tried to push for marriage a while ago, I even got blamed for it. I’ll ask when I get back. Oh, my~”
Xue Yufen clutched her chest, her hands and feet cold from the sheer adrenaline.
A little grandson. A precious grandson. The darling grandson she had been longing for had appeared just like that! A grandson, dropped right out of the sky!
Now that she knew about the child, Xue Yufen had no interest in drinking tea or gossiping with her friends. After ushering everyone out, she immediately called Liang Huaiqiu.
Liang Huaiqiu was out fishing. “What is it, dear?”
“Get back here right now, I’m giving you ten minutes!”
“It’s a matter of life and death!”
It was the first time Liang Huaiqiu had heard his wife sound so serious. He didn’t even bother with his fishing rod, dropping everything and sprinting toward his car.
