- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 14 - Guoguo’s Daddy
The sound from Grandma Zhang’s speakerphone was loud and clear.
The voice was slightly distorted, yet the sheer terror in the person on the other end was unmistakable. Even through the receiver, one could feel his overwhelming anxiety.
Liang Yanxiu drove out of the residential complex and glanced at the navigation, they were only six minutes away from the hospital.
After parking the car in the hospital’s underground garage, Liang Yanxiu carried Fang Leyun toward the entrance while Grandma Zhang followed closely behind.
Fang Leyun was being very good, leaning softly against Liang Yanxiu’s shoulder. The boy smelled faintly of milk, and his small hand was tightly clutching a little knitted dog.
It was quite strange. Liang Yanxiu had never really spent time with children, but he knew they were usually wary of strangers. Yet, this little toddler was remarkably quiet in his arms.
They went straight to the emergency department. Liang Yanxiu threw money at the problem to open up a private channel, ensuring Fang Leyun received an expedited examination.
However, once they reached the unfamiliar clinical setting, Fang Leyun began to show signs of stress. He wouldn’t let anyone else touch him. If anyone tried to take him by force, he would scream and sob, clinging to Liang Yanxiu’s clothes with a death grip.
Grandma Zhang’s legs weren’t great, so she was settled into a seat downstairs to wait. Left with no other choice, Liang Yanxiu had to keep holding the boy while the doctor performed the check-up.
The doctor smiled warmly, “Oh, what a good boy.”
“How old are we this year?”
Fang Leyun didn’t say a word, burying his face into the crook of Liang Yanxiu’s neck. However, he obediently extended his arm for the doctor, cooperating fully without any fussing or crying.
The doctor laughed, “Kids are usually shy around strangers. But your son is so clever, he’s really working with us.”
Liang Yanxiu spoke up, “He’s not my son.”
“Huh?”
A young nurse nearby, who was tidying up some instruments, looked up in surprise. She glanced back and forth between Liang Yanxiu and Fang Leyun.
“He’s not? But you two look so much alike. It’s like you were both cast from the same mold.”
Another doctor looked over and agreed, “They really do look very similar.”
Just as Liang Yanxiu was about to say something more, the door was suddenly flung open. Fang Zhiyou rushed in, gasping for breath.
“Guoguo!”
Fang Zhiyou was frantic, his eyes seeing nothing in the world except his son. He lunged forward and snatched Fang Leyun into his arms, his face deathly pale.
“How is he? Was he hit? Where does it hurt? Tell Daddy. Daddy’s here, don’t be afraid.”
The little ball of fluff, who had been so quiet just moments ago, burst into a wail the second he saw Fang Zhiyou. He didn’t care about anything else, his two little arms wrapping around Fang Zhiyou’s neck with all his might.
The two of them, the big one and the small one, cried as if their hearts were breaking. The doctors and nurses in the room stood to the side, not daring to interrupt.
Liang Yanxiu, on the other hand, couldn’t help but think that the world was truly small, here they were, meeting again.
Fang Zhiyou had arrived in such a rush that he was still wearing his apron from the flower shop. Dressed in a simple beige sweater and grey jeans, he looked thin and pale, almost like a college student.
The doctor watched them for a moment, then stepped forward.
“Are you the patient’s older brother?”
Fang Zhiyou stopped crying and hurried to wipe his tears, “Hello, doctor, I’m Guoguo’s father.”
The doctor and nurse both widened their eyes again, “Oh, you’re the father? You look so young.”
Fang Zhiyou sat on a chair, holding Fang Leyun as he pelted the doctor with questions. He was worried sick, his words coming out in a jumble and his voice trembling violently. He seemed so emotionally unstable that it looked like he might break down in tears again at any second.
The doctor quickly offered some comfort, “You’re Guoguo’s dad, right? Don’t worry, all the test results are in. Guoguo is perfectly fine, he doesn’t even have a scratch on him. He was probably just frightened. You’ll need to keep a closer eye on him in the future, even if there aren’t many cars in the complex, you never know when other accidents might happen.”
