- You Smell So Good! After Reuniting, My Ex-Boyfriend Forcefully Took Me Back
- Chapter 13 - Navigation
The next day, after finishing the morning briefing, Liang Yanxiu changed his clothes and drove to Imperial University. He had been invited as an honorary alumnus to participate in an economic forum hosted by the college. It was rare for him to revisit his old haunts, so he was not inclined to refuse.
Once the seminar concluded, he found himself distracted. He politely declined the dinner invitations from several university leaders and drove out of the campus. Just as he cleared the school gates, his phone rang. It was Lin Xiangyu.
“Yanxiu, are you busy?”
“Not really.”
“Help me deliver a document, I need it urgently.”
Liang Yanxiu stepped on the gas and headed straight for the hospital. The moment his car pulled up at the entrance, Lin Xiangyu rushed out. Taking the documents, Lin casually handed Liang Yanxiu a carton of milk.
“Consider this my thanks. I appreciate a big CEO like you taking time out of your busy schedule to fetch files for me. I’ve got to head back up now.”
With that, Lin Xiangyu hurried off. Liang Yanxiu looked down at the milk carton in his hand for a moment before tossing it into the storage compartment and turning the car around.
Since he was rarely out of the office, he suddenly didn’t know where to go. He drove around the hospital three times before finally deciding to head back to the company. However, he hadn’t even driven a few kilometers when he saw the road ahead was cordoned off.
He got out of the car to ask around and learned that an accident had occurred on the main road near the hospital. Traffic was at a standstill, and there was no telling when it would clear. Lacking the patience to wait, Liang Yanxiu immediately turned on his navigation, intending to take a detour through the side streets.
This damn navigation!
After several left and right turns, Liang Yanxiu eventually drove into an open-style, old-fashioned residential complex. There was no property management, and not even a decent gate. Vehicles and pedestrians moved in and out freely, so much so that he had been driving around the complex for quite a while before he realized the broken navigation had led him inside.
Liang Yanxiu had never been here before. As he drove, he kept glancing down at the map. Just as he looked up from the screen, he saw a small child running out from the front side, looking as if he were about to collide with the car.
Liang Yanxiu slammed on the brakes and jerked the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the child. The tires screeched sharply against the pavement. He cut the engine and immediately threw open the door to get out.
A little boy, looking no more than four years old, was sitting on the ground, clearly startled. His dark, round, grape-like eyes stared blankly at him. Clutched in his hand was a slightly worn, hand-knitted crocheted puppy. He wasn’t crying, just looking up in a daze.
Liang Yanxiu strode over and knelt down. “Little guy, does it hurt anywhere?”
He didn’t dare pick him up right away. He first checked the boy’s arms and legs, then held his head carefully to inspect for any injuries. After confirming there were no scrapes, he finally breathed a sigh of relief and lifted the boy up by his armpits.
The little ball of fluff tilted his face up, his big, dark eyes blinking. Liang Yanxiu asked him a few questions, but the child remained silent. Liang Yanxiu felt the boy looked familiar, but he couldn’t quite place where he had seen him before.
Is this child mute?
“Oh dear!”
“Guoguo!”
“Guoguo!”
“How did you run out here!”
“You scared Grandma to death!”
Grandma Zhang, carrying groceries from the vegetable shop, came running over. She rushed to the front and pulled Fang Leyun into her arms, checking him from head to toe. Her voice trembled as she touched and squeezed him.
“Did you fall?”
“Were you hit?”
“Tell Grandma, don’t be afraid, where does it hurt?”
Fang Leyun remained incredibly quiet, only blinking his round eyes as he watched Liang Yanxiu. Grandma Zhang was furious.
“Young man, how are you driving!”
“This is inside a residential area, not the main road!”
“Speeding around like that, it’s so dangerous! What would have happened if you hit the child!”
Liang Yanxiu, knowing he was in the wrong, apologized repeatedly.
“Ma’am, I am so sorry. This is my responsibility. The navigation led me the wrong way, and I didn’t realize this was a private complex. How about this, an accident with a car can be serious or minor. I’ll take the child to the hospital for a full check-up, and I will bear all the costs.”
Seeing the young man’s sincere attitude and his refined appearance, Grandma Zhang figured he wasn’t an unreasonable person.
“A check-up is definitely necessary!”
“Wait a moment, let me put the groceries back!”
The shop owner, who had been standing nearby, ran over and took the groceries from her. Liang Yanxiu stood up while holding Fang Leyun and helped Grandma Zhang into the car. Once inside, Grandma Zhang pulled out her phone and called Fang Zhiyou.
“Little Fang.”
“Are you busy right now?”
“I was at the shop with Guoguo when a young man drove into the complex. Oh dear, Guoguo was hit by a car!”
“Don’t panic, don’t panic.”
“He looks okay, but we still need to get him checked out. We’re heading to the hospital now.”
“Let me ask.”
Grandma Zhang lowered the phone. “Young man, which hospital are we going to?”
Liang Yanxiu replied, “First Municipal Hospital.”
Grandma Zhang glanced out the window. “That’s not right. Turn left. If you turn right, you’re going back the way you came.”
She then spoke back into the phone. “Little Fang, First Municipal Hospital. Drive slowly. By the way, the main road is blocked, so if you take a taxi, remember to tell the driver.”
