Chapter 1: Wind and Rain
I still couldn’t bring myself to abandon her.
“Awake?”
Though Fu Sheng had opened her eyes, she was still disoriented. After looking around, she muttered, “Wasn’t I dead?”
The air was filled with the faint, unique bitterness of medicinal herbs. A bowl of herbal soup was placed with a thud beside the bed. The woman in green gauze looked impatient, urging her, “If you’re awake, drink it quickly. Don’t waste my time.”
Fu Sheng looked up, feeling lost, “Is this the Underworld?”
The green-robed woman showed a harmless smile, “Are you truly foolish? It’s fine if you’re not dead.”
Seeing Fu Sheng still staring at her blankly, the green-robed woman pouted and sat down, “Fine. You fell off a cliff and hit your head. Do you still remember who you are?”
Fu Sheng shook her head, then nodded, “I am Fu Sheng, a singer.”
The air was silent for a moment, followed by a burst of laughter: “Hahaha, Fu Sheng, you really are crazy! Are you not going to be the Senior Sister of the Clear Harmony Palace anymore!”
Clear Harmony Palace, Senior Sister, Fu Sheng.
Fu Sheng jolted. She suddenly remembered the angsty novel titled Treachery that she had read before she died. The mindless minor villain in the early stages of that novel was the Senior Sister of the Clear Harmony Palace, Fu Sheng.
So, she had transmigrated into the book?
But why transmigrate into a sickly, useless villain! This character was eventually skinned alive by the female lead, Qi Shuyuan!
Her chaotic mind cleared instantly. Fu Sheng lifted her hand, and there was a cross-shaped scar on the translucent white skin of her hand.
It’s over, I really did transmigrate.
Feeling weak all over, Fu Sheng coughed twice and looked at the gloating green-robed woman, “So, you are Cheng Wan?”
The green-robed woman, having laughed enough, seemed to be in a good mood, “Oh, you still remember me.”
Cheng Wan had a round face and apricot eyes. Logically, such a face shouldn’t seem mean, but Fu Sheng felt chills running down her spine.
According to the plot, Cheng Wan and the original Fu Sheng were best friends on the surface. This person had a dark heart; she seemed to be wholeheartedly treating the original Fu Sheng, but she was actually using her to test medicines.
After the original character’s tragic death, this character shamelessly followed the female lead, but due to her fickle and treacherous nature, she was eventually chopped into a hundred and eight pieces for betraying the female lead.
Tragic, indeed.
Thinking of this, Fu Sheng couldn’t help but look at Cheng Wan with sympathy, making the latter feel uneasy.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Fu Sheng calmly retracted her gaze, her voice hoarse and weak, “Nothing. Just contemplating what a brave man you are.”
“Looks like you really have gone mad, not even knowing gender anymore. Alright, drink the medicine quickly.”
Turning her head to look at the steaming brown liquid in the bowl, Fu Sheng’s entire body was resistant. Of course, she couldn’t drink this person’s medicine!
A flash of white light crossed the room. Large raindrops battered the window paper. Cheng Wan’s attention shifted, and she chuckled softly, “With this kind of rain, that newly initiated Junior Sister probably won’t hold up.”
Seeing this, Fu Sheng stopped playing dead. She asked, “What’s going on?”
Cheng Wan looked intrigued, “The one you couldn’t stand before, the one called Qi Shuyuan—she’s kneeling in front of the Interrogation Hall right now.”
Fu Sheng was startled. Her head felt heavy, and she couldn’t process things quickly, but Cheng Wan’s words brought her relief.
In the book Treachery, the female lead first appeared as she was being falsely accused of theft and punished to kneel in front of the Interrogation Hall. She knelt in the rain until she collapsed and had a high fever for three days. During the fever, the original Fu Sheng specifically forbade anyone from treating her.
Since the female lead was still kneeling, it meant the original character hadn’t started her self-destructive journey yet. This meant she, the transmigrator, was safe.
With a clear understanding, Fu Sheng sat up on her own, yet this simple action was incredibly difficult to complete, causing her face to pale slightly and her throat to taste of blood.
Taking a moment to catch her breath, Fu Sheng asked softly, “How much longer can my body last?”
Cheng Wan listened to the rain, answering impatiently, “It’s annoying; you ask every day. Haven’t I told you, you still have sixty years.”
For cultivators, sixty years flashed by in an instant, but Fu Sheng felt sixty years was enough.
The temperature gradually dropped with the falling rain, and the cold air made Fu Sheng cough.
In her previous life, she pushed herself too hard and ruined her body. Although this current body was not healthy, it was sustained by elixirs, making it last longer than her previous life.
Fu Sheng smiled in satisfaction. She absolutely didn’t want to get involved in the female lead’s affairs. Isn’t it better to be a lazy, laid-back person?
However, the most pressing matter was to go to Spirit Medicine Peak to find a doctor and get a new prescription. Given her body’s condition, she couldn’t afford to delay.
Cheng Wan looked at her, confused by her alternating smiles and frowns. However, she had her batch of pills to attend to and no time to help Fu Sheng recover her memory.
“Alright, I’m leaving now.”
Fu Sheng nodded and watched her disappear into the wind and rain.
With the obstruction gone, Fu Sheng endured the dizziness to get up and put on her clothes. The original character disliked her own sickly appearance and therefore often wore clothes of strong, vivid colors.
Fu Sheng put on a bright red outfit and a fur-collared cloak over it; the cloak was also strikingly red.
Looking at herself in the mirror, Fu Sheng couldn’t help but criticize, “Am I getting married?”
Another clap of thunder flashed, illuminating the overly pale face of the person in the mirror.
That face was identical to her previous life, only stripped of its defiant spirit, leaving only a fragile coolness and detachment.
Fu Sheng lowered her eyes slightly. She picked up the white oiled-paper umbrella placed by the bed and stepped out into the wind and rain.
The memories of this body were gradually returning, so Fu Sheng knew the direction of Spirit Medicine Peak. However, this path would definitely pass by the Interrogation Hall.
Her grip tightened on the umbrella handle, then she quickly reassured herself.
It’s fine. Just don’t look. I’ll quietly leave when I get there. Just don’t let the female lead notice me.
She took two deep breaths, but the damp coldness made her choke and cough. Fu Sheng felt helpless.
Getting closer to the Interrogation Hall, Fu Sheng couldn’t help but hold her breath, moving as quietly as a kitten.
The rain blurred her vision. The sky and earth were dark and gloomy. The faint, water-blue figure ahead broke through this oppressive atmosphere like a drawn sword.
Fu Sheng stopped dead, her pupils contracting. She silently repeated, “The female lead, Qi Shuyuan.”
As she looked now, the female lead was just barely an adult, but her life was destined to be filled with betrayal and sorrow.
Fu Sheng closed her eyes, hardened her heart, and was about to slip away to the side, but the rain in the sky began to fall even harder.
The raindrops, driven by the wind, struck the back of Fu Sheng’s hand, sharp as knives.
Fu Sheng couldn’t help but look at the blue figure. She was still kneeling like that, as if nothing could break her spine.
But would she really be okay like this? Fu Sheng was uncertain.
She moved one step forward, but her legs felt like they were shackled with a thousand pounds, unable to move further.
The wind howled like wailing ghosts, and Fu Sheng’s heart began to stir restlessly.
Finally, she turned and walked towards the female lead, then raised the umbrella over her head. The rain was torrential, instantly soaking half of her shoulder.
The coldness brought on a cough. She quickly glanced at the female lead, then looked straight ahead, saying nothing.
After a long time, the person kneeling on the ground finally spoke: “Thank you, Senior Sister.”
Fu Sheng felt the words were unduly cold, but then reasoned it must be the freezing rain.
So, enduring her whole-body discomfort, she stood there until the rain stopped.
