Slap. Shen Jiangxu tossed the collar she was holding.

The Alpha, delirious from the fever, fell back onto the pillow, causing a slight bounce.

As if the tremor triggered a headache, Bai Youxi’s smile morphed several times, freezing right before she would have grimaced.

She raised her eyes, looking eagerly at Shen Jiangxu. The subtle expression of pain quickly vanished, and her whole face looked blank.

Shen Jiangxu couldn’t help but rub her forehead.

After returning, she had heard Niannian talk about Bai Youxi’s current state, saying her fever was spiking again.

A recurring high fever was not a good sign, which is why Shen Jiangxu decided to come and look at her first.

Before entering the room, she had deliberately changed her blocker patch, and there was no Alpha pheromone scent in the air, so she pushed the door open and walked in.

The room had just been sprayed with a neutralizer, leaving behind a faint residual sweet apricot scent.

Bai Youxi was still curled up in the blanket, her cheeks flushed red from the fever, but her expression seemed relatively normal.

Shen Jiangxu reached out to feel her forehead but first noticed a medicine box pressed under the pillow.

She pulled at it out of curiosity, and three used suppressants came out at once.

Feeling uneasy, she reached under the pillow and found five more.

A total of eight doses, used up in one day.

Shen Jiangxu’s face changed completely.

Suppressants were not meant to be used multiple times in a short period, especially strong ones.

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t angry. How could a person be so ignorant, not knowing that misusing suppressants could be dangerous?

Yet, the first thing she said after being woken up was this muddled remark.

Bai Youxi had a pair of very innocent-looking eyes, slightly round with corners that drooped slightly downward, giving her a very clean look.

But at this moment, those eyes seemed veiled with a layer of mist, hazy and indistinct.

The owner of the eyes seemed to sense this, trying hard to open them wider, but only revealing confusion.

Shen Jiangxu exhaled and asked tentatively, “Bai Youxi, who do you see?”

Bai Youxi blinked, then suddenly stretched out her arm. Her scorching palm pressed against Shen Jiangxu’s forearm, pulling her closer.

Shen Jiangxu quickly got up. That long, powerful hand was still stuck to her arm, creating a noticeable pulling sensation as she moved.

The Alpha’s palm temperature seeped through the thin fabric into her forearm, an irritating heat.

“Hey!”

Her tone was cold and showed no mercy.

Shen Jiangxu moved further away. Bai Youxi’s hand, unable to reach, naturally fell down.

Along with its drop, Bai Youxi seemed to have finally found the answer.

She blinked with effort, sounding very uncertain, and slowly said, “Shen Jiangxu?”

“It’s me.” The tone remained cold and hard.

Bai Youxi said “Oh,” “You’re back?”

Shen Jiangxu didn’t answer, “Why did you use so many suppressants?”

Bai Youxi closed her eyes. Even her movements seemed to slow down. She smiled, showing her white teeth, “It’s fine. The regulating ring isn’t very useful yet, and the doctor said it was okay. The situation is improving though, I only used two after lunch.”

Shen Jiangxu did not agree, “I haven’t heard of that kind of advice.”

Bai Youxi chuckled “Hehe,” sounding a bit silly, “It was another doctor. She handled it for me this way, many times.”

Swish. Shen Jiangxu got up and walked out.

A moment later, Bai Youxi vaguely heard Shen Jiangxu dialing her phone, seemingly calling the doctor whose number she left yesterday.

The conversation ended quickly. After a while, Shen Jiangxu returned to her, “I am taking the remaining suppressants. You are not allowed to inject again for three days. After three days, I will decide the timing of the injection.”

“Mm, okay.”

“I will come check on you every half hour until dark. If your condition is still poor after dark, I will take you to the hospital.”

“Okay.”

The room was silent for a moment. Bai Youxi opened her eyes and looked at Shen Jiangxu in confusion.

Those pine smoke gray eyes stared coldly at her. After a moment, she turned and left, taking Niannian, who was waiting at the door, without saying anything else.

Bai Youxi sighed and retreated into the blanket.

When Shen Jiangxu came to check on her for the second time, half an hour later, Bai Youxi’s fever had completely broken.

She wanted to wake her up to eat, but Bai Youxi was sleeping too soundly, and Shen Jiangxu couldn’t rouse her.

So, Shen Jiangxu quietly left, only asking Aunt Tong to prepare some ingredients so she could cook fresh food for Bai Youxi as soon as she woke up.

Niannian had said she would wait until Bai Youxi woke up to sleep, but Bai Youxi never did. Niannian, being young, couldn’t stay awake, and closed her eyes while playing.

Shen Jiangxu waited for a while longer. Seeing that her condition remained stable and she showed no intention of waking, she and Aunt Tong simply went to sleep, having set a time to take turns checking on Bai Youxi during the night.

The night passed without incident.

If she could have, after that peaceful night, Bai Youxi would have hoped to be fully revived.

But reality was cruel. Her pheromones were still out of control. Bai Youxi felt as if every joint and every pore of her body was radiating a heavy, unidentifiable pain, further oppressing her mind.

She woke up very early and dragged her heavy body to clean herself up. Just as she was finishing, there was a sudden knock on the bathroom door.

Shen Jiangxu’s voice was low, sounding slightly muffled through the door, “Bai Youxi, are you in there?”

Bai Youxi was adjusting the scrape on the back of her neck. The wound had scabbed over, but because she had been running an intermittent fever, the gauze felt slightly damp, making it soft to the touch.

Hearing the voice, Bai Youxi fumbled to press the new gauze onto the back of her neck and quickly opened the door, “Yes, I’m here.”

Shen Jiangxu stood quietly at the doorway, her posture straight.

Her ink black hair was casually coiled with a wooden hairpin. She was simply dressed in a beige long skirt and a thin jacket, made of what looked like a very comfortable material.

Her head and face were small, and her limbs were long and slender. At a glance, she looked like a character only seen on a movie screen.

But upon closer inspection, one would feel that such exquisite beauty should not be shown on a screen, as it would make everything else on the screen lose its color.

Bai Youxi couldn’t help but stare, feeling that she had opened the door too hastily and was completely unprepared. Seeing that face suddenly made her feel inexplicably dry mouthed.

The pair of beautiful pine smoke gray eyes calmly examined her. Seemingly finding nothing unusual, they finally looked at her eyes, “Is anything uncomfortable?”

Bai Youxi shook her head.

Shen Jiangxu was sitting with one leg partially crossed. Her foot, lifted off the ground, was hooked onto her slipper by the tip of her toes. Beneath the smooth, bony lines were a slightly pink heel and a high arch a perfect shape.

Although Shen Jiangxu had used a blocker patch and neutralizer, Bai Youxi still felt a very faint fragrance wafting from her. It wasn’t the scent of pheromones, but it was equally captivating.

Bai Youxi felt her face getting a little warm, but she still couldn’t resist sneaking glances at Shen Jiangxu.

Shen Jiangxu seemed to have work today, too. She was holding a laptop and constantly typing, looking very busy.

Shen Jiangxu nodded, but didn’t look away.

Those cool eyes seemed to have already seen right through her. Bai Youxi turned and rushed into the kitchen as if fleeing.

She really seemed to be acting strangely.

Behind her, Niannian also ran over, “I want a drink too.”

Shen Jiangxu withdrew her gaze and looked back at the laptop screen.

After typing two lines, Shen Jiangxu paused her fingers again, lost in thought.

However, her thoughts were soon interrupted by a loud cry, and her mind buzzed loudly.

She shot up, completely ignoring the laptop that crashed heavily onto the floor from her lap, and rushed into the kitchen.

“Niannian, Niannian…”

On the dining room floor, Niannian was tightly hugging Bai Youxi, who had collapsed, crying hysterically, “M-Mommy, Xiaobai, what happened to her, boohoohoo…”

Shen Jiangxu didn’t tend to Niannian but immediately checked on Bai Youxi. Her breathing was normal, and her pulse was strong. The only problem was the chaotic pheromones leaking out uncontrollably, almost solidifying as they flowed out from behind the blocker patch.

It was a pheromone loss of control.
