Five Years of Studying Medicine, Three Years of Flirting With Guys - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
Tang Linsheng heard this and said with a half-smile, “I am intoxicated by clinical work and scientific research.”
The four doctors were full of expectation for his answer, yet they didn’t expect to hear this response; immediately, the corners of their mouths twitched twice involuntarily. A few days ago, when they heard Director Wei introduce Professor Tang’s resume, they heard things like a university GPA of 3.96, and that several of his articles had been indexed by top-tier domestic scientific and clinical journals. Even in the global MCAT exam before he went to the U.S. to study medicine, he was one of only two people in the world to achieve a perfect score.
Truly a god-like figure!
Just as they were admiring him, they saw Tang Linsheng give a gentle smile and say, “Just kidding. I’m single. Alright, everyone get busy.”
“Okay! I got it!” Hearing this information, Doctor Zhu was so excited she almost wanted to jump! Restraining her eager feet, she tightened her hold on the medical record folder in her arms and said with a red face, “Thank you, Professor Tang!”
“You’re welcome,” Tang Linsheng said, then turned and walked toward the Director’s office.
As soon as Tang Linsheng left, before the four doctors two men and two women—could even reach the doctors’ office, they began discussing excitedly in low voices:
“What type do you think Professor Tang likes?”
“Doctor Zhu, I saw that as soon as Professor Tang arrived today, you were very excited.” The male doctor speaking winked at her. “This is great; Professor Tang has definitely attracted the gaze of all the girls in our department. It seems there’s no ‘springtime’ left for single dogs like us.”
“Springtime? What springtime!” Another female doctor, Doctor Hu, slapped the boy who was speaking and said, “It’s already autumn, and you’re talking about spring! But Professor Tang’s overall aura, that physique, can completely crush you.”
“Then what about me?” the other male doctor asked jokingly.
Doctor Zhu and Doctor Hu glanced at each other and said in unison, “Sorry, that includes you too!”
Everyone burst into laughter, then returned to their respective desks and began preparing admission records for the new patients.
Doctor Zhu sat down, opened her medical record folder, and looking at the blank A4 paper on top used for notes, she couldn’t help but reveal a shy and happy smile.
This is Professor Tang’s handwriting! Professor Tang’s way of handling things is with a gentlemanly manner, and his speech is gentle and good-tempered, but his handwriting is very domineering and sharp, with powerful strokes and extraordinary momentum.
She quickly entered the information from the A4 paper into the computer and, while no one was paying attention, quietly kept the paper and put it in the upper pocket of her white coat.
There is a saying that “handwriting is like a person,” but she felt this saying was completely inapplicable to Professor Tang. Professor Tang looks so gentle! The type he likes should also be a woman with a good temperament and a gentle temper; perhaps she also has a chance.
In these matters, who can say for sure?
…
When Tang Linsheng returned to the office, he saw the sign on Director Wei’s desk indicating he had already gone to the outpatient clinic. Sitting at his desk, he saw an introductory brochure for the B City Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Internal Medicine. He flipped through a few pages and heard his phone ring.
He opened it and saw it was a message sent by Director Wei, inviting him to go to the B City Center Building next door this afternoon to attend the quarterly meeting of the National Society of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Internal Medicine.
Tang Linsheng replied “Okay,” put down his phone, and walked to the window, looking at the tall buildings outside and the people rushing back and forth on the road. Looking at a lifestyle completely different from that in Country M, he clearly realized that he was truly back.
Back then, when Professor Wei went to the Hope Clinic headquarters for exchange activities, he was responsible for receiving the domestic exchange personnel. Toward the end of the exchange, Wei Yun suddenly asked him a question: “Do you want to return to the country to develop your career?” For Tang Linsheng, the reason he went abroad to study was that the foreign research system and research atmosphere allowed him to focus more on his own studies; it wasn’t that he was particularly obsessed with life abroad. However, his research at the Hope Medical Center was just concluding, and he couldn’t leave for a while.
Seeing that Tang Linsheng did not give him a direct response, Professor Wei Yun became a bit anxious. He made three special trips to find Tang Linsheng, talking about everything from national sentiments to starting a small family, and then to the future development of cardiovascular specialties in the country. Talking from the big picture down to the small details, he finally got Tang Linsheng to express a positive attitude the day before returning to China.
Director Wei thought he returned because he was moved by his words, but in reality, it wasn’t just for that reason.
Standing at the windowsill, Tang Linsheng looked at the heavy traffic and the hurried pedestrians outside, and let out a deep sigh.
I hope I can find you as soon as possible.
…
The Eight-West Cardiology Department lived up to its reputation as a specialty department of the hospital. Coupled with the large flow of patients on Monday and the accumulation of many discharged patients from the weekend, it was busy. Director Wei also preferred “preventative medicine,” habitually intervening before cardiac diseases developed seriously. So, with a whole day of many admissions and discharges, by the time it was time to get off work, Tang Linsheng felt like his legs were about to break.
“My goodness!” Liu Junxian couldn’t help complaining a few times. “Eight-West is too terrifying!! I only hope that the salary at the end of the month can comfort my exhausted body.”
Tang Linsheng shrugged helplessly and said, “There’s no way around it. As an affiliated hospital of B University, our hospital is one of the top three Grade A hospitals in the country and a leading department in domestic cardiology. Patients all flock to us.”
Liu Junxian curled her lip, used her ID badge to open the door, and said to him with her head tilted, “Please, let the national medical standards rise quickly! Hurry up and disperse our hospital’s patient flow!”
Tang Linsheng laughed: “Then I have to hope for the health and safety of people nationwide. They shouldn’t come to the hospital at all, hahaha. Alright, hurry up and change your clothes and go back to rest!”
Tang Linsheng opened the door and went in, standing in front of the wardrobe to take off his nursing uniform and hang it on the outside of the wardrobe. He looked to the side again and found that Tang Linsheng’s white coat was already hanging there.
Has the Senior already finished work?
The aching in his legs reminded him of the workload he had done today, and the full vitality he had when he first started work had become insufficient.
He looked at the two side-by-side lockers, curved his lips into a smile, closed the locker room door, and stood at the elevator entrance waiting for the sluggish elevator. While waiting, he saw many patients gathered by the wall; with a tilt of his head, he saw the department expert board above the crowd.
At the very top was Director Wei Yun, and one level down were the two Deputy Directors, Tang Linsheng and Gao Huishan. His gaze was attracted by Tang Linsheng’s photo; the man was wearing a white shirt and a black formal suit, looking at the camera and smiling generously.
For a moment, Tang Linsheng couldn’t help but look in a daze. It wasn’t until the elevator arrived and someone called him that he snapped back to his senses and hurriedly walked into the elevator.
Standing in the crowd with his head down, he couldn’t help but think silently: The Senior even looks so good and gentle in his ID photo. The phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated. He opened it and found the page filled with WeChat notifications. He saw that Teacher Wang Fang had already pulled him and Liu Junxian into the “Eight-West Cardiology” group. The head nurse and Director Wei were telling everyone about a notification from above, saying that on Wednesday, leaders from the B City Bureau of Health would come down for an inspection and asking everyone to prepare well.
Tang Linsheng’s good mood from seeing Tang Linsheng’s [photo] after work disappeared instantly. He sighed and was about to exit WeChat helplessly. Suddenly, a flash of inspiration hit him, and he immediately clicked the member icon at the top right of the WeChat group, searching carefully from top to bottom. Finally, at the very bottom to the left of himself, he found Tang Linsheng’s WeChat avatar.
The Senior’s avatar… He looked at that WeChat account using a normal ECG curve as an avatar, and his mood was somewhat indescribable; the Senior’s old QQ avatar was also this ECG curve.
As he walked out of the hospital, a blast of hot air hit him. It was just that sultry time between 3:00 and 4:00 PM; having just stepped out of the cool environment of the hospital mixed with the smell of disinfectant, he really couldn’t adapt for a moment.
After taking a few deep breaths, he looked down at his phone again
It’s over! He had actually sent a friend request to the Senior!
No… no way! He wasn’t mentally prepared yet!
