Five Years of Studying Medicine, Three Years of Flirting With Guys - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
Liu Junxian heard her say this and couldn’t help but ask gossipily, “Why has it become lively?”
Teacher Wang Fang glared and said, “Why do you care so much? Just do your own business! Tang Linsheng, you follow me; Liu Junxian, you go follow Teacher Fang in the back group. Alright, you two go distribute the cards.” After Teacher Wang finished speaking, she pointed out the location where the infusion cards were placed and hurried off to work.
The two of them put the infusion cards from the table onto the treatment cart and pushed it to each ward to distribute the cards.
“Hey, Tang Linsheng, where was your last department? I was in Surgical Oncology.”
Tang Linsheng took a card and said, “The last one was in the Operating Room.” He went to a patient’s bedside, asked for the patient’s name, and verified it against the bedside card and wristband before hanging the infusion card on the treatment stand.
Upon hearing this, Liu Junxian asked while hanging a card, “Did you follow Teacher Zhou?” Seeing Tang Linsheng nod without quite understanding why, she said excitedly, “Brother! I’m counting on you in Cardiology! I heard from classmates in the Operating Room that Teacher Zhou likes you very much, saying your professional knowledge is good, your operations are good, and you are very well-behaved.” She stepped forward, raised her hand, and patted Tang Linsheng’s shoulder, saying, “I just want to coast… Brother, I’m counting on you for rescue!”
Tang Linsheng looked at a girl who looked cute on the outside but called him “Brother” with every breath and felt the contrast was truly huge. He smiled, handed her a card, and said, “I believe in your strength! After all, you’ve survived in Surgical Oncology!”
The two talked while distributing cards. When they reached the eighth ward, they happened to run into Tang Linsheng leading four doctors to do rounds and see new patients.
“What is the name for Bed 31?” Liu Junxian asked. Just as she was about to hang the card, she saw the male patient staring blankly at her with his hands behind his head, saying nothing. She asked again, and the patient in Bed 31 finally spoke: “You look and see what my name is.”
Hearing this, [she thought], Mother of God, am I meeting a mentally handicapped patient on my first day in a new department?! The expression on her face was a bit bad; although she was wearing a mask, her eyes couldn’t help but want to roll. “It’s your name and you’re asking me?!”
“Hey!” Upon hearing that, the man immediately sat up, pointed his finger at Liu Junxian, and said, “You little girl, how can you talk like that!”
Tang Linsheng, having finished hanging cards at the other beds, immediately walked to Bed 31, took the infusion card from Liu Junxian’s hand, grabbed the patient’s wrist to check the wristband, and said, “Wang Rizhao, right?” then hung the card up.
He pulled Liu Junxian outside, reminding her in a low voice: “Teacher Wang just said to keep your temper in check.”
Liu Junxian’s fire was up; though she didn’t get into a confrontation with the patient, she was still whispering complaints: “Don’t you think he’s mentally handicapped? It’s routine for me to ask his name, okay?! Does he think I enjoy asking?! And being so retardedly…”
Tang Linsheng glanced back before leaving the door, looking at Tang Linsheng standing by Bed 32 checking a new patient; the sound of Liu Junxian’s dissatisfied grumbling in his ear became lighter and lighter.
Tang Linsheng had a tall and slender build. Wearing a neat white lab coat and glasses while gently questioning the patient, the sunlight from outside poured through the glass onto him, making his whole being seem to brighten up. For a moment, Tang Linsheng found it difficult to look away, only feeling that the other person looked exceptionally good wearing a white lab coat.
He remembered the scene when he first saw Tang Linsheng. It was a fleeting glimpse he once had at the laboratory door; the other person had likely just finished an experiment, wearing a white lab coat, sitting with a straight back at the lab bench. At that time, he hadn’t started wearing glasses yet, his gaze was focused on the lab bench, and his slender, bony hand held a pen moving back and forth on the paper. Sunlight also shone in from the side and spilled onto his body.
That scene had taken root in his heart. He once even felt that if he could watch him like this for a whole day without getting close, he would be satisfied. His past feelings had been deeply suppressed in the bottom of his heart, yet he didn’t expect that after seeing Tang Linsheng only three times today, those feelings would be impatient to poke their heads out. The once well-glued seal was exposed, waiting for someone to tear it open and release the hidden emotions within, letting them surge forth and submerge his heart.
The scene before his eyes seemed to overlap with his memory. Watching Tang Linsheng finish taking the medical history and explaining the disease to the four doctors following him, a bit of sadness suddenly rose in his heart. What was the use of remembering so clearly? Back in university, he worked so hard and still didn’t make the Senior remember him, let alone now.
He sighed and pushed the cart to the next ward.
“This patient has a history of heart failure, so our treatment goal is to prevent and delay the occurrence and development of his heart failure. And according to the emergency check sheet, he has fluid retention, so we need to apply the diuretic Furosemide to treat the patient…” While Tang Linsheng was speaking, he withdrew the gaze he had just placed on Tang Linsheng.
He had just felt that little kid looking at him. For some reason, as he watched, did his expression become a bit sad?
“Doctor Tang?” The patient in Bed 32, Kong Mingzhao, called out to him with an expression that was both urgent and impatient. “I need to get on the infusion pump quickly! You hurry up and prescribe it for me!”
Tang Linsheng turned back and looked at the patient who was glaring at him. Although his smile was gentle, he said in a tone that allowed no dispute: “Wait until we finish the rounds; we will issue medical orders based on your condition. Don’t be anxious.”
Kong Mingzhao’s wide-staring eyes looked at him, his lips meeting: “Then you have to prescribe it for me a bit faster! I’m in a hurry…” Originally his voice was quite loud, but after meeting the gaze Tang Linsheng gave him, his voice gradually quieted down, and in the end, he only dared to mutter a few words. He hadn’t seen this doctor the last time he was hospitalized; he thought it was a new junior doctor, but he didn’t expect the gaze just now to make his heart feel a bit fearful.
“Alright, rest well first and cooperate with our treatment.”
After Tang Linsheng finished speaking and saw the patient Kong Mingzhao nod, he led his four doctors back to the office.
On the way, among the four doctors following Tang Linsheng, there were two female doctors. One of them ran up and walked beside him, her lips twitching slightly. She thought she was looking at Tang Linsheng several times without a trace, but unexpectedly she was caught by him, and the two met eyes directly.
“Doctor Zhu, what do you want to say?” Tang Linsheng stopped his pace and asked with a smile.
Doctor Zhu was a doctor visiting from another hospital for advanced training. She was about 1.6 meters tall. She strained to look up at Tang Linsheng, hugging the medical record folder in her arms tightly, and said: “Professor Tang, you were too amazing just now! I was the one who received Kong Mingzhao when he came last month, and he was so fierce! He wouldn’t answer questions when asked! But today, he was as well-behaved as a little white rabbit in front of you.”
The remaining doctors laughed and said, “Yes, yes, Doctor Zhu is right.”
“Is that so?” Tang Linsheng’s smile was gentle. “Remember, when communicating with patients, you are the judges of the condition; you cannot be led by the nose by the patient.”
Everyone nodded repeatedly.
Doctor Zhu struggled for a moment, then raised her hand and asked with a sense of bashfulness: “Professor Tang, can I ask a question?”
“Mhm, ask.”
“Professor Tang, are you single?”
