Chapter 6: The Movie Queen’s Little Butterfly (06)
Lin Qinglu suddenly didn’t know how to respond.
She picked up her cup and took a few sips of water, but she couldn’t help feeling that the water had a hint of sweetness.
Did Liu Lele find her conscience and put honey in it?
But wasn’t she leaning on Luo Chun’s “imperial decree,” keeping a strict watch these past few days, not even allowing a single butterfly cracker—
Lin Qinglu’s thoughts drifted away in a strange mood until she suddenly snapped back to reality:
“Those butterfly crackers you gave me, did you buy them nearby?”
Jian Yixin had prepared her answer long ago. Hearing this, she said: “It’s my friend’s pastry shop, right here in the film base.”
“It’s still in the final stages of preparation. It should officially open in a couple of days.”
Jian Yixin’s eyes were clear. She leaned in slightly and asked expectantly: “Were they delicious?”
Lin Qinglu paused, turning her head away slightly: “You didn’t even know if they were good before giving them to me?”
The wooden fan in her hand opened and closed, and the scent of sandalwood drifted out amidst the soft rustling sound.
Jian Yixin felt helpless.
She had planned to taste them first, but who knew the Movie Queen came equipped with a built-in butterfly cracker radar?
Lin Qinglu paused, then followed up on her own: “They were quite good.”
The buttery flavor was rich, milky, and crispy.
With one bite, the thin, brittle crust melted between the teeth—sweet but not greasy, with a very gentle texture.
In truth, they were excellent.
Based on Lin Qinglu’s experience of tasting butterfly crackers from all over, this kind of texture wasn’t something a random roadside dessert shop could produce.
She didn’t know what was wrong with the owner—hiring such a talented pastry chef only to open a shop in a film base.
Lin Qinglu didn’t say much in front of the dance double, maintaining her “Aloof Movie Queen” persona.
But later, back in her room, her eyes uncontrollably drifted toward the pastry box. She couldn’t help but ask about it.
Liu Lele gave a “tch”: “Aside from being a bit dim-witted, the owner is probably just a fan of yours, Sister.”
“Hmm?”
“Did you forget? Last year when you were filming in the deep mountains, a male fan opened a shop at the foot of the mountain just to sell butterfly crackers. It even trended on the hot search.”
Liu Lele spoke casually, her eyes fixed on her artist: “Only looking, no eating.”
Lin Qinglu ignored her, the corners of her lips curling up.
She realized something.
Song Pianqian had gotten a box of butterfly crackers, didn’t keep any for herself, and gave them directly to her.
Song Pianqian knew exactly what she liked to eat, too.
The next day’s filming featured the crew’s first scene where all three leads shared the stage.
Director Zhao spent a long time adjusting the camera positions, then called over Ye Zixuan and Shen Yu to explain the key points they needed to watch out for in their rival scenes.
Shen Yu smiled warmly, looking left and right: “Where is Teacher Lin?”
Director Zhao waved a hand, dismissing the thought: “Her? She doesn’t need to listen.”
In that moment, both Ye Zixuan’s and Shen Yu’s expressions became a bit awkward.
This “visual” of a teacher giving the top student a break while keeping the failing students behind for remedial tutoring was truly demoralizing.
The two adjusted their moods, both secretly resolving to make the director see them in a new light.
Director Zhao’s expression was serious: “First of all, the most important point: it’s fine to follow Qinglu into the scene, but don’t let her lead you astray and forget to perform your own character properly.”
Ye Zixuan & Shen Yu: “……”
“Don’t take this lightly. Today is a major scene, understand?” Director Zhao pointed at the script. “Qinglu is in full form. If you aren’t careful, you’re going to have a hard time.”
Ye Zixuan and Shen Yu exchanged a look. Deep down, they felt guilty, but they endured the humiliation and nodded.
It wasn’t until the “remedial class for failing students” ended and Lin Qinglu took her place that the entire crew was ready. Then, Yu Bo finally made a late appearance.
But…
Almost everyone’s attention was drawn to the man standing beside Yu Bo.
The man wore a grey, high-end custom suit. He had broad shoulders and long legs, with an exceptionally handsome and clear face, cool white skin, and a noble temperament.
He lifted his eyelids slightly, scanning the room. Many people didn’t dare look him in the eye and looked away.
The one who broke his aura was Lin Qinglu.
“So you finally know to come back, Old Man Yu.” Her voice was as usual, carrying a hint of laziness.
Yu Bo had a good personal relationship with Lin Qinglu. Even though he was only in his forties, he didn’t get angry at being called “Old Man.” They usually joked around like old friends.
But today, Old Man Yu cleared his throat: “I’m back, I’m back. Today… a friend of mine came to the set. Everyone, put in some extra effort and perform well. Don’t embarrass me.”
Tsk. It sounded like a leader coming for an inspection. Who would believe they were just “friends”?
Everyone responded to the director’s call with varying expressions.
Whether it was because Director Yu had arrived or because of the distinguished guest, everyone’s movements became much more restrained and quiet.
As Lin Qinglu waited for filming to start, she amused herself by watching Shen Yu’s expression.
After this guest appeared, Shen Yu’s face turned stiff.
It was likely a man’s natural competitiveness. Originally, as a second-tier star, Shen Yu was considered the top male lead in this crew, feeling a bit like a “monkey king” ruling over the mountain.
The moment Director Yu’s guest appeared, Shen Yu’s light was instantly stolen. All the girls who had been stealing glances at him were now looking at the true noble socialite. Shen Yu now looked like a monkey slinking away when the tiger returned to the mountain—comical.
Lin Qinglu was amused by her own analogy.
Her beautiful eyes shifted—it was hard to say if it was intentional or accidental—and landed right on Song Pianqian.
That man… had he approached Song Pianqian?
