- Chapter 1 - Secret Marriage
The dating show “Love and Nest” skyrocketed to the top of trending searches immediately after its trailer release, with the comment section buzzing:
[Season 4 only has female alphas and omegas as guests, no handsome guys not interested.]
[The “Building a Love Nest” segment is no different from “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” It’s getting old can we get something fresh?]
But the most criticized aspect was: The Season 4 trailer was just too! too! too! half-hearted!!!
Previous seasons’ trailers featured beautifully edited vlogs for each guest, but Season 4’s trailer only showed blurry long shots or back views of the guests, with rushed two-line self-introductions like those pixelated interviews in crime documentaries.
The most outrageous was one guest who didn’t even get a back view, just a pair of hands.
In the video, those hands were fair and slender, shirt sleeves rolled up to the elbows, kneading dough on a bamboo cutting board. Surrounding them were traditional Chinese pastries, with a purple clay pot steaming warmly the whole scene looked bright and cozy.
When the progress bar reached these hands, the barrage comments went wild, all mocking the “hands”:
[What kind of royalty only shows their hands for an introduction? LMAO, are we supposed to watch two hands fall in love?]
[She must be ugly and ashamed of her looks. Bet she’ll be the least attractive once the show starts.]
[But I think those hands are gorgeous, and she seems like a great cook must be a gentle and virtuous omega ^-^]
As the trailer continued, a hazy white veil appeared, with a graceful silhouette dancing behind it, like the fairy Chang’e ascending to the moon.
The barrage comments erupted again, this time with praises for the “celestial silhouette”:
[Too bad I’m uncultured, all I can say is “holy shit”! Holy shit, is this an actual goddess descending to earth?!]
[That swan neck! That slender waist! Those long legs! That ethereal dance! I declare her my wife for this season!]
[That figure and dance moves remind me of my underrated idol Ye Zhuoyan. OMG, could it really be her?! (Screams like a groundhog)]
Wen Huiyu awkwardly closed the trailer, which was full of comments mocking her hands.
Lying beside her was the very “celestial silhouette” herself, Ye Zhuoyan, her legally wedded wife.
Wen Huiyu sighed quietly while looking at her phone, disturbing the light sleeper.
With a flutter of her long lashes, Ye Zhuoyan slowly opened her bright eyes. The moment she noticed Wen Huiyu, she instinctively wrapped herself in the blanket and shrank to the foot of the bed, hissing, “Don’t come closer! Get out.”
Wen Huiyu quickly retreated outside the door, speaking as gently as possible, “Alright, I’ll stay out here.” She normally wouldn’t enter Ye Zhuoyan’s bedroom, but she had absentmindedly wandered in while watching the trailer.
Once Ye Zhuoyan seemed calmer, Wen Huiyu said, “Zhuoyan, I came to tell you, I also signed up for ‘Love and Nest.’ I’ll join the show with you.”
Ye Zhuoyan turned her back to her.
Wen Huiyu endured the icy silence for a moment before quietly closing the bedroom door and leaving.
…
Wen Huiyu had transmigrated into this world a week ago.
When she first arrived, she froze in place, the bedroom was thick with the sweet, intoxicating scent of vanilla cotton candy, making her bones melt.
A woman with skin like polished jade lay deep in the plush bed, while a signed “Divorce Agreement” sat on the nightstand.
Wen Huiyun’s head ached slightly as she puzzled over the divorce agreement, only to find her own name written alongside three elegant characters in small regular script: Ye, Zhuo, Yan.
Wen Huiyun jolted awake with a start: Holy shit! This was that novel she’d read! And the cannon fodder character A shared her name!
Her gaze returned to the sleeping woman this must be the novel’s female lead, Ye Zhuoyan.
Dragging her heavy body, Wen Huiyun collapsed onto the small sofa, feeling only one word could describe her situation: doomed!
Though she hadn’t finished the entire novel, she clearly remembered the synopsis: “Wen Huiyun” becomes an overnight outcast, has her glands carved out by the official love interest A, and gets abandoned in no-man’s-land to die.
Rubbing her temples as a storm of the original host’s memories flooded in, Wen Huiyun roughly grasped the current situation.
Ye Zhuoyan was a minor celebrity who started as a dancer. Two years ago, she became the original “Wen Huiyun’s” secret wife through an arranged family marriage. But Ye Zhuoyan was proud and unyielding, refusing to submit to the original host all this time.
Not long ago, a batch of cosmetics produced by the Ye family was found to contain excessive mercury, dealing a heavy blow to their already declining family. In desperation, Ye Zhuoyan begged the original host for help. The original host, relying on her family’s power and wealth, had always looked down on Ye Zhuoyan. Seeing her plead for help, she bullied her relentlessly before finally proposing divorce demanding Ye Zhuoyan leave with nothing!
While making Ye Zhuoyan sign the divorce agreement, the original host gave her a glass of water laced with hallucinogens, planning to “gift” the drugged Ye Zhuoyan to another alpha after obtaining the signed papers. She even called paparazzi to record videos for tabloid sales.
An unfamiliar phone on the glass table suddenly vibrated. Wen Huiyun hesitantly picked it up facial recognition unlocked it. This must belong to the original host.
Suspiciously checking the mirror, she saw her appearance hadn’t changed, still wearing her pre-transmigration clothes with her own phone in the pocket. She must have physically transmigrated. Yet having received the original host’s memories, even as her physical self, she’d inherited the original’s identity.
After brief consideration, Wen Huiyun answered cautiously: “Who is this?”
“Boss, we’re downstairs! Are you ready yet? Has Ye Zhuoyan’s clothes been removed? The shoot will take several hours.”
Wen Huiyun’s heart lurched violently. Stepping outside the bedroom, she roared “Get lost! I’m calling the police!” before immediately hanging up, blocking the number, and powering off the phone.
The thought of the original host’s heinous actions and the novel’s impending ending made her shudder with dread. With mixed emotions, she looked back at the unconscious woman.
Ye Zhuoyan slept peacefully amidst snowy white sheets, like a pure sleeping beauty from fairy tales. Her long, ink-black hair fanned out gracefully, while a pearl-white silk slip dress clung to her delicate figure.
Unconsciously, Wen Huiyun found herself entranced.
While reading the novel, she’d greatly admired Ye Zhuoyan, but never dreamed she’d meet her in person.
Fortunately, Wen Huiyun had transmigrated physically and hadn’t yet presented. Had she been an alpha, she’d be helpless against Ye Zhuoyan’s sweet omega pheromones right now.
The female lead might be fragrant, but survival came first!
Closing the bedroom door, Wen Huiyun packed her bags and descended the stairs without looking back.
Run! Escape immediately! Stay far away from Ye Zhuoyan and the official love interest A! Fly high and far! Thrive independently!
“You can’t run! Wen Huiyun!”
Wen Huiyun screeched to a halt, looking around frantically, who? Who was speaking to her?
A cute little sprite flew out from a flowerpot, startling her.
“Ahhh! What kind of spirit are you? Did I not transmigrate into a book after death? Is this hell?”
Smack! The tiny sprite slapped her cheek with its small hand and said sternly, “I’m your assigned system sprite from the Transmigration Unlucky, ahem Lucky Ones Management Bureau. You can call me Little La.”
“Got it, Little La. Transmigrating beats going to hell. Thanks to the Transmigration Bureau for giving me this precious second chance at life. I’ll cherish it, now I’m off to escape!”
Little La stopped her:
“No! If you run, the female lead will still hate you. Once she ends up with her official love interest A, you’ll still face the original doomed ending!”
“The Wen Huiyun in this book died unexpectedly, and we urgently need someone to replace her. That’s why the Bureau sent you here.”
“If her body is discovered and your identity is exposed, the Wen family will investigate you, making your situation even more dangerous!”
“Then what am I supposed to do?! You brought me here, you have to take responsibility!”
“You must follow the Bureau’s instructions: impersonate the original host, take good care of Ye Zhuoyan, and resolve the hatred between you.”
“As long as you comply, the Bureau will handle the original host’s remains.”
“Also, while your physical traits match the original host, your body hasn’t undergone differentiation yet. Before that happens, you must earn Ye Zhuoyan’s favor points to exchange for the original host’s hormone injections. Regular doses will prevent your identity from being exposed. Since you’re new, I’ll give you one dose for free.”
“……”
Ridiculous! Scammers! Evil organization! But Wen Huiyun had no choice.
The Transmigration Bureau might be vile, but survival comes first!
“Only you can see me. I’ll usually be on standby at the Bureau, but just call ‘Little La’ in your mind, and I’ll appear. Your data is officially logged in the Bureau’s system now, Wen Huiyun. Smile and charge forward!”
“……”
Wen Huiyun forced a smile.
She put down her luggage and trudged back to the bedroom, picking up the “Divorce Agreement” before tearing it to shreds…
“Love and Nest 4” Episode 1 officially premiered!
Fans, critics, and casual viewers all curiously clicked on the video.
The footage switched between several cars.
Post-production added pink bubble clouds drifting suggestively across the screen, with the words: “Gathering! Exclusive Interviews.”
A close-up of a pair of hands.
Comments flew by:
【The imperial noble hands have arrived.】 【Ugh, they’re still not showing their full body even in interviews?! Who do they think they are, a concubine?】 【They showed their waist too, okay? Decent figure, I bet a pack of Spicy Prince that ‘Hand Concubine’ isn’t ugly.】
The director asked, “You’ve seen the trailer. Who interests you most, and who least?”
Wen Huiyun smiled perfectly, “Like most viewers, I was stunned by the ‘celestial silhouettes.’ Every guest is unique, and I’m open to learning about them all.”
【Oho, Hand Concubine’s quite diplomatic.】 【Is ‘Hand Concubine’ their permanent nickname now? Hahaha~】
The scene changed to flowing white skirts and straight, long legs.
Ye Zhuoyan sat by the window with downcast eyes as the director asked the same question.
Her voice was cool as spring water: “All the guests are outstanding. None particularly interest me. If I had to nitpick, it’d be the guest who only showed their hands. The reason? Same as the viewers.”
【HAHAHA! Even the guests are roasting Hand Concubine!】
“Her voice is so lovely, and her legs are so long and straight, what a divine silhouette! I’m confessing my love to the goddess!”
The scene cuts to an extended Rolls-Royce Phantom, its dazzling starlight headliner blinding the audience’s Kardashian-sized eyes.
A close-up reveals glossy genuine crocodile leather shoes, impeccably tailored high-end suits with perfect drape, a platinum diamond-encrusted watch, and slender fingers resting gracefully by her side.
“Woo-hoo! Isn’t this the one from the trailer showcasing the luxury car club and private wine cellar?”
“That aura, no need to guess, she’s definitely an alpha!”
The woman’s throat moves slightly as her deep, magnetic voice resonates like the lingering chime of an evening bell: “Interested? What left the deepest impression on me were those hands kneading dough. I wish for a devoted and gentle lover, I imagine the owner of those hands must be a tender and beautiful omega.”
The barrage of comments explodes with doge memes:
“Wait, what if she’s an alpha?”
“Hey, you there, stop! I’m laughing my head off!”
“What’s wrong with alpha x alpha? Those hands better be hers! I ship them! [doge]”
Wen Huiyun arrives at the show’s venue.
It’s a sprawling villa nestled in a scenic area, backed by lush mountains and surrounded by lakes on three sides, with a vast romantic flower field stretching before the garden.
Catching her reflection in the full-length mirror by the entrance, Wen Huiyun takes in her outfit: a white blouse paired with khaki wide-leg trousers.
Her delicate features, straight nose, and the two small dimples framing her lips, along with chestnut hair cascading over her shoulders, give her an almost ethereal glow of gentleness.
As she pushes open the grand door, the AI system announces: “Welcome, our second alpha guest.”
The spacious living room is bathed in natural light, its floor-to-ceiling windows pristine. At the center of the circular sofa sits an alpha with impeccable posture, her shoulders squared with quiet authority.
Her ash-brown hair falls just past her shoulders, the ends slightly curled, and her lips naturally tilt downward, lending her a dignified air even in stillness.
The alpha quickly rises towering at an estimated 185cm and pours a glass of warm water, offering it to Wen Huiyun with a refined, approachable smile. “Hello, please have a seat.”
“Thank you!” Wen Huiyun, parched, downs it in one go, already forming a favorable impression.
They sit at a polite distance and begin chatting.
The alpha asks, “Did the producers ask who you’re most interested in?”
“They did.”
“My favorite were those hands, so beautiful. Their owner must be an exceptional cook.”
“I thought the same! Those hands are stunning!” Wen Huiyun beams inwardly, thinking this alpha has excellent taste. Her good feelings skyrocket, and she resolves to become fast friends.
“By the way,” Wen Huiyun adds, “I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Wen Huiyun.”
The alpha replies warmly, “Hello, I’m Cheng Xiaoming. I hope to find a gentle and devoted partner.”
Wen Huiyun’s smile falters.
Cheng Xiaoming, the cannon alpha.
