Everyone I Flirted With Says They Won’t Let Me Go (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 4
There was no anger, no rage, nor the imagined beating to death.
Gu Chengxi’s expression remained unchanged as he carefully wiped the tear stains from Xia Chengxi’s face and asked, “You like him? Why do you like him?”
Rubbing his sore eyes with the back of his hand, Xia Chengxi replied, “I was kidnapped by traffickers when I was little. At four or five years old, I was forced to beg on the streets, never having enough to eat or wear, and if I didn’t bring back enough money, I’d be beaten. He was the one who saved me. At the orphanage, he took care of me and protected me like an older brother. That’s why I like him.”
“And what about me?”
Xia Chengxi stared at him blankly. There was no need for pretense or masks. At this moment, he was genuinely deeply in love with Gu Chengxi. “You’re different from him.”
Gu Chengxi asked, “How are we different?”
Pursing his lips, Xia Chengxi looked up into Gu Chengxi’s deep, unruffled eyes. His red, swollen eyes shimmered with tears, sparkling like starlight under the bright fluorescent lights, appearing both childish and innocent, enough to soften anyone’s heart at a glance.
“I love you.”
Gu Chengxi sighed, kissed his forehead, and pulled him into a tight embrace. “If you don’t listen to me from now on, I won’t want you anymore.”
Xia Chengxi knew this was Gu Chengxi’s compromise.
“Brother, if you threaten me like that, how would I dare not listen to you in the future?”
Gu Chengxi chuckled. “Are you sulking?”
“I’m just afraid you’ll get angry.”
“And you think hiding things from me and going to find someone won’t make me angry?”
Seeing that Gu Chengxi had finally let the matter go, Xia Chengxi breathed a sigh of relief and lowered his head obediently to apologize. “Brother, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
The door was knocked, and Uncle Chen entered with a bowl of steaming hot porridge, handing it to Gu Chengxi.
Too embarrassed to speak, Xia Chengxi buried his face in Gu Chengxi’s chest. Uncle Chen, knowing he was shy, simply reminded him to be careful of the heat before leaving the room to the reconciled pair.
“Uncle Chen is gone. Lift your head and drink the porridge. Crying all day and not eating—who spoiled you like this?”
Xia Chengxi, emboldened by the affection, replied, “You did.”
Gu Chengxi scooped a spoonful of hot porridge, blew on it to cool it down, and brought it to Xia Chengxi’s lips. Xia Chengxi licked it up and swallowed it in one go, then stared eagerly at the bowl.
“If you skip meals again and your stomach hurts, no one will feel sorry for you.”
Xia Chengxi, already starving, watched as Gu Chengxi scooped another spoonful. Before Gu Chengxi could blow on it to cool it, he snatched it and gulped it down, looking like a hungry little kitten waiting to be fed.
Gu Chengxi glared at him, took the spoon back, and blew on the porridge to cool it. “Be careful, it’s hot.”
Helpless, Xia Chengxi could only wait eagerly for Gu Chengxi to feed him. His stomach growled loudly, and he knew this was Gu Chengxi’s way of punishing him. Not daring to say more, he endured the slow feeding, taking half an hour to finish the bowl of porridge. Only when the bowl was empty did he feel somewhat better.
After being confined to his room for five days, Xia Chengxi finally ventured out for a stroll. He had intended to get back at the bodyguard who had pushed him earlier but couldn’t find him anywhere. Instead, every servant he encountered along the way greeted him with extreme respect, their faces beaming with smiles, bowing so low they nearly touched the ground.
Gu Chengxi’s villa was neither too large nor too small, located in the suburbs of Jiang Cheng by the lake. The lakeside was covered with vast stretches of lawn, and a few evergreen trees stood with lush, dense foliage. In the summer, this place was a perfect retreat from the heat.
In the distance, he spotted what seemed to be a figure beneath an old tree by the lake. The hazy night made it difficult to see clearly, and curiosity drove Xia Chengxi closer for a better look. It turned out to be one of the bodyguards who had been assigned to watch over him.
The young, unapproachable bodyguard was now kneeling in the grass. His thin white shirt was soaked with dew, clinging tightly to his body. His arms hung limply at his sides, his face deathly pale. Whether it was sweat or dew, droplets traced paths down his cheeks, and his black hair was thoroughly drenched. It was clear he had been kneeling there for a long time.
Xia Chengxi was puzzled. “Why are you kneeling here?”
The bodyguard remained silent, his pale, bloodless lips pressed into a tight line, his entire body trembling uncontrollably.
“Have you been kneeling here all day? Why?”
The bodyguard glanced at him, his eyes vacant. Each breath he took seemed labored, his chest heaving with effort. He parted his lips slightly, his voice hoarse and strained. “Young Master Xia, it was Twelve who offended you.”
Xia Chengxi was speechless, staring at him in disbelief. “Just because you pushed me?”
The bodyguard said nothing. Xia Chengxi tried to help him stand, but Twelve remained motionless on the ground. When Xia Chengxi touched his right hand, a flicker of unbearable pain finally crossed Twelve’s face. Only then did Xia Chengxi notice his right hand hanging limp and powerless.
“Your hand…”
Just then, Butler Chen approached from the villa and addressed Xia Chengxi politely. “Young Master Xia, please go inside. Without the master’s permission, he wouldn’t dare to stand.”
“What happened to his hand?”
Butler Chen bowed slightly. “Twelve offended you. Losing a hand is a minor punishment for a grave offense.”
Xia Chengxi furrowed his brows deeply. [Little Green Hat, how come I never realized my husband could be so ruthless before?]
[Meow, Host, have you finally come to your senses? It’s not too late!]
Xia Chengxi felt he needed to clear his head.
Outside the villa, shadows moved as several bodyguards in suits followed Gu Chengxi. They dispersed in all directions after he entered the house.
No matter how busy he was these days, Gu Chengxi always returned on time. Xia Chengxi hurried to the door to greet him.
As Gu Chengxi stepped inside, he took off his coat and handed it to a servant. Then, he cupped Xia Chengxi’s face and planted two firm kisses on his lips.
“Brother, you’re back so early today?”
“What, don’t you want to see me?”
“No…” Xia Chengxi thought of Twelve behind the villa and cautiously broached the subject. “Brother, about that Twelve…”
Gu Chengxi acted as if he hadn’t heard, pulling Xia Chengxi into his arms and sitting down at the dining table. He settled Xia Chengxi on his lap, loosened his tie, and whispered in his ear, “Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet.”
“Then let’s eat together.”
Gu Chengxi picked up the rice bowl in front of him and began feeding Xia Chengxi. The two shared the same bowl, and Xia Chengxi didn’t dare say much, obediently swallowing whatever Gu Chengxi offered him.
“Tomorrow, I’ll take you for a check-up.”
“What kind of check-up?”
Gu Chengxi pinched his cheek. “A full-body examination, with a focus on your stomach.”
Xia Chengxi’s face instantly fell. “No, my stomach is perfectly fine. It was just one day without eating.”
An endoscopy involved passing a probe through the throat into the esophagus—a nauseating and painful procedure.
Back when Xia Chengxi and Gu Chengxi had just started their relationship, Gu Chengxi had taken him for one such examination. It was an experience Xia Chengxi never wanted to recall.
Gu Chengxi’s expression darkened, his voice stern. “Who told you your stomach is fine? This isn’t up for discussion. We’re going to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning.”
Xia Chengxi instantly felt full. Gu Chengxi set down his chopsticks and sighed resignedly, “Xia Xia, it’s just a check-up. I only want you to be healthy. You used to have poor health, and I never dared to take risks with your body. Why do you look so wronged?”
“Nothing, I know you’re doing this for my own good. I’ll go.” Xia Chengxi lowered his eyes submissively, secretly observing Gu Chengxi’s expression. Seeing it finally clear up, he mustered the courage to ask, “Brother, about that Number Twelve… could we let it go? Maybe find him a doctor?”
Gu Chengxi turned his face toward him. “Feeling sorry for him?”
Xia Chengxi shook his head decisively. “The only one who can make me feel sorry is you. I just think since he’s your man, it’s a waste to cripple him.”
Gu Chengxi didn’t respond. Xia Chengxi leaned in to kiss him, but Gu Chengxi stopped him, sighing, “Xia Xia, if you try to please me for an outsider’s sake, I’ll get angry.”
Xia Chengxi wore a pained expression, helpless.
Gu Chengxi waved his hand and ordered, “Forget it. We’ll do as you say—find him a doctor.”
Upon hearing this, Uncle Chen nodded and left.
Xia Chengxi wasn’t a soft-hearted person, but he still felt that making someone kneel and breaking their hand just for pushing him was too much.
“You’re so kind-hearted, brother.”
“Not cruel and heartless?”
“Of course not! In my heart, you’ll always be the best!”
Gu Chengxi was clearly pleased by Xia Chengxi’s flattery. After eating his fill, he carried Xia Chengxi off to the bedroom.
Early the next morning, while still half-asleep, Xia Chengxi was taken to the hospital by Gu Chengxi. Throughout the journey, Xia Chengxi fidgeted anxiously, repeatedly begging to no avail, and finally resigned himself to his fate.
Gu Chengxi watched his unusually distressed expression and stroked his soft black hair. “It’s not like sending you to the battlefield. Why so scared?”
Xia Chengxi remained sullen and silent, resolutely stepping into the examination room. The scheduled doctor was extremely respectful, but as soon as a tube entered Xia Chengxi’s mouth and reached his throat, he couldn’t take it anymore. The doctor beside him urged him to swallow, but Xia Chengxi clenched his eyes shut, nauseated and wanting to vomit.
Xia Chengxi felt someone holding his head. Opening his eyes, he saw Gu Chengxi standing beside him, wiping away his drool and uncontrollable tears.
“Xia Xia, breathe through your nose, exhale slowly through your mouth. Don’t swallow your saliva, relax.”
Xia Chengxi gripped the edge of the bed tightly, tearful eyes fixed on Gu Chengxi, his eye rims red. Gu Chengxi continuously wiped his tears and comforted him, “Bear with it, Xia Xia. It’ll be over soon. I love you.”
[Congratulations, Host! Gu Chengxi’s sincerity value has reached 93%—finally a one-point progress!]
[!!!] Could it be that my husband is a sadist? Does seeing me in pain excite him?!
After five minutes, Xia Chengxi was finally freed from the gastroscopy. The results, discussed promptly by the doctors, were handed to Gu Chengxi ten minutes later.
The doctor carefully chose his words, “Mr. Gu, Mr. Xia has mild gastritis, but it’s not serious. Some medication and proper care will help him recover.”
Gu Chengxi nodded. “Thank you for your trouble.”
The doctor smiled. “You’re too kind, Mr. Gu. It’s our duty.”
Gu Chengxi held the still-uncomfortable and irritable Xia Chengxi. “Alright, let’s go home.”
Xia Chengxi ultimately didn’t push away the hand wrapped around him, muttering under his breath, “I already told you there’s nothing wrong with my stomach.”
Gu Chengxi raised an eyebrow. “Gastritis isn’t a problem?”
Feeling unwell, Xia Chengxi bent over and retched a few times, his face flushed and his eyes glistening with unshed tears.
Gu Chengxi patted his back, then pulled him into an embrace. “You’ve had a rough day, Xia Xia, but I’m glad your health isn’t in serious trouble.”
Xia Chengxi sighed but said nothing.
What could he possibly say when faced with such an overbearing man?
Under such an aggressive approach, compromise was his only option.
