Everyone I Flirted With Says They Won’t Let Me Go (Quick Transmigration) - Chapter 15
Xia Chengxi was tormented for several days before being brought back to the villa. He had thought he could finally rest for a couple of days, but things only escalated further.
[Host, you’re currently indulging in a life of pleasure and forgetting all about your mission. With less than a month left, you’re still this lazy. Do you even remember your task? If this continues, I’ll have to take certain measures against you in the next world.]
[We’ve already obtained one point of sincerity, and Gu Chengxi’s progress has reached over 95%. Don’t worry, we’ll succeed.]
[I’m just afraid you’ll be so captivated by pleasure that you’ll throw caution to the wind, even at the cost of your life.]
[I still need to complete the mission and return here, so rest assured, I’ll take care of myself.]
After a long pause, the system replied indifferently, [You’d better watch your step.]
Xia Chengxi was baffled, wondering which part of his words had offended the system.
Deciding not to dwell on it, he slumped lazily into the sofa, slouching without a care. After reading for a while, he began to feel drowsy. Having barely slept over the past few days, he was utterly exhausted. Just as he was about to head back to his room for a nap, a car pulled up outside the villa, and someone stepped out.
It was Zhao Yi.
Tall and slender, Zhao Yi had the natural build of a model. Sunglasses perched on the bridge of his nose obscured much of his handsome face. Butler Chen personally opened the door for him, and Zhao Yi exchanged a few polite words with the butler at the entrance before striding into the villa with practiced ease.
Noticing Xia Chengxi curled up on the sofa, he seemed slightly surprised but then smiled and asked, “Are you Xia Chengxi?”
His tone carried none of the arrogance one might expect from a wealthy heir. His words, smile, and every gesture reflected the refined upbringing he had received over the years, exuding an air of elegance.
Xia Chengxi remembered him all too well. Though Zhao Yi appeared courteous and well-mannered, his audacious entry into the villa with such familiarity irked Xia Chengxi.
Turning to Butler Chen, Xia Chengxi asked, “Butler Chen, who is this?”
Butler Chen smiled and was about to reply when Zhao Yi introduced himself with a smile, “I’m Zhao Yi. Has Chengxi brother not mentioned me?”
“Actually, no, he hasn’t,” Xia Chengxi blinked. “Is there something you need today? If not, I’m going to catch up on some sleep. I didn’t get much rest last night.”
After saying this, he let out a rude yawn.
Out of the corner of his eye, Xia Chengxi noticed Zhao Yi’s expression darken slightly.
Serves you right, coming here to show off!
“It’s nothing major. I came specifically to see you.”
“Me?”
Zhao Yi called out toward the door, “Come in.”
Puzzled, Xia Chengxi watched as Xia Chengyu timidly stepped out from behind the door, head bowed, and stood beside Zhao Yi.
“This is your younger brother, Xia Chengyu, right?”
They looked identical, so of course, it was his brother.
“What’s this about?”
“Well, a few days ago, I accidentally hit him with my car. At first, I thought it was you, but it turned out to be your brother. What a coincidence, really.”
Xia Chengxi tilted his head, waiting for him to continue.
“It’s not a big deal. During his hospital check-up, the doctors found issues with his kidneys and recommended a kidney transplant as soon as possible. Since you’re his brother, I figured you’d be a match for the kidney donation.”
“Are you saying you want me to donate a kidney to him?”
Zhao Yi smiled warmly, “Aren’t you his older brother?”
Xia Chengxi was stunned for a moment before growing mildly angry. “Are you kidding? That would hurt!”
“Hurt?” Zhao Yi seemed taken aback.
“Of course, it hurts. They cut open my side, took out a kidney, and left an empty space there. Tell me, doesn’t that hurt?”
Zhao Yi frowned, displeased by Xia Chengxi’s stubbornness and refusal to follow the usual script. He nodded toward him and said, “But he’s your own brother.”
Xia Chengyu also timidly looked up at him. “Brother, don’t you remember me? I’m Chengyu. Before Mom and Dad sent you to the orphanage, we used to play together all the time.”
Xia Chengxi replied, “I remember. But tell me, why should I give it to you?”
A deathly silence fell.
“Brother, are you still holding a grudge against Mom and Dad for sending you to the orphanage back then? Actually, it wasn’t their fault. If you want to blame anyone, blame me. If my kidneys hadn’t failed back then and we didn’t need a huge sum of money, they wouldn’t have sent you away.”
Xia Chengxi was annoyed. “There’s no point in bringing up the past. And you don’t need to pretend in front of me—it’s all over now.”
Xia Chengyu’s face turned pale. He stood frozen for a long moment before his eyes welled up, his shoulders trembling as he began to sob. Xia Chengxi watched, dumbfounded.
[I should hand over my Best Actor crown to him.]
[No, no, you’re too modest, Best Actor.]
“Brother, how can you think of me like that? Are you still upset about what happened with Chu Ran? After Mom and Dad died in the car accident, I was all alone and terrified. Chu Ran found me and said he would take me away. I was only seven—I couldn’t refuse him. That’s why I… Brother, please don’t mind. Don’t worry, I won’t compete with you.”
Xia Chengxi rolled his eyes so hard he nearly strained them. Slumped on the sofa, he waved a weak hand, looking as if he might stop breathing at any moment. “Spare me. I want to sleep. I don’t want to hear another word from either of you.”
“Brother, can you really not forgive me?”
“Fine, fine, I forgive you. Now you can leave.”
Xia Chengyu was no fool. He could tell Xia Chengxi was just brushing him off. He grabbed Xia Chengxi’s hand, choking back sobs. “Brother, you’re my own brother. In this world, you’re my only family, and I’m your only family. Mom and Dad, watching from heaven, would want us brothers to live well.”
Xia Chengxi drooped his eyelids and let out a weak snort through his nose. “So?”
“Brother, can’t you save me? I don’t want to die.”
“Xia Chengyu, originally, I didn’t want to say this…” Seeing Xia Chengyu’s tears falling uncontrollably, Xia Chengxi felt a headache coming on. “Alright, alright, stop pretending in front of me. What happened back then is over—it’s been so many years, I can’t be bothered to hold it against you.”
Xia Chengyu continued to sob, clearly unable to believe what he was hearing. “Brother, how can you say that? Don’t you remember? When we were kids, you always gave in to me.”
“Gave in to you? Giving in to you meant taking your place when Mom and Dad sent you to the orphanage?”
Xia Chengyu’s face instantly turned ashen. “You knew…”
“Back then, the family was poor and couldn’t afford to treat your kidney disease. When you found out Mom and Dad were planning to send you to the orphanage, you slipped me sleeping pills and pretended to be me. With your cunning and acting skills, it was enough to fool anyone—after all, we look exactly alike.”
“No, Brother, I know I was wrong. But I wanted to live. If I had been sent to the orphanage, I would have died!”
“Yeah, I know. That’s why I don’t blame you.”
“You’re not blaming me? Really, you’re not blaming me?” Xia Chengyu’s tears turned into a smile. Watching his cheerful expression, Xia Chengxi had to admit that over the years, Chu Ran had truly protected him well—such a bright and innocent smile was something he himself could no longer muster.
“I knew you’d always be the one who cares for me the most,” Xia Chengyu said, throwing himself into Xia Chengxi’s arms. “You were always willing to share everything with me when we were kids. So now, would you be willing to share a kidney with me?”
Truth be told, Xia Chengxi was set to leave in a month, and by then, this body of his would be of little use. Saving a life would be a blessing in disguise. But Xia Chengyu was rotten inside, all innocent on the outside. Just seeing him made Xia Chengxi think back to ten years ago, and anger surged right up to his temples.
Seeing Xia Chengxi remain silent, Xia Chengyu bit his lip. Zhao Yi, who had been watching the drama unfold from the side, chimed in, “If Brother Chengxi knew about this, I’m sure he’d agree.”
Xia Chengxi let out a dry, humorless laugh. Just then, a voice came from the doorway, “What’s going on? Agree to what?”
Gu Chengxi appeared at the entrance. Xia Chengxi stepped forward with a cold expression and took his coat. “It’s nothing. My younger brother here needs a kidney and insists on getting one from me. Since you’re so wealthy and influential, why don’t you help him find a donor? Save him the trouble of crying on my shoulder.”
Ignoring the others in the living room, Gu Chengxi pinched Xia Chengxi’s puffed-up cheek. “Alright, I understand. I’ll arrange it. Have you eaten?”
“No, I’m full from anger.”
Zhao Yi’s face turned pale, and he stood there utterly at a loss.
Xia Chengyu, who had spent some time with Gu Chengxi in the past—brief as it was, he had genuinely been doted on—now looked at Gu Chengxi with teary eyes and said, “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have asked my brother for something like this. But the doctor said there’s no more time to waste, so I asked Brother Zhao Yi to bring me here. I just ended up making my brother angry with my clumsy words. Please don’t be upset with him.”
Gu Chengxi didn’t even glance at him, instead ruffling Xia Chengxi’s hair. “Who said I’m angry? Zhao Yi, take him away. I’ll have someone find him a kidney. There’s no need for you to trouble yourself with this. Didn’t your father send you to the U.S.? Why are you still here?”
Zhao Yi bit his lower lip. It wasn’t the first time Gu Chengxi had shown him disrespect in front of others, but never had it been this humiliating.
“I… I don’t want to go.”
“Then go back to the Zhao family. I’ve made myself clear before. You should remember what I said. Don’t make me repeat it.”
Xia Chengxi watched as Zhao Yi’s face turned deathly pale, unable to guess what exactly Gu Chengxi had meant by those “words.”
“Uncle Chen, see our guests out.”
Uncle Chen walked over to Zhao Yi with a smile. “Young Master Zhao, allow me to escort you.”
Zhao Yi’s voice trembled slightly as he glared fiercely at Xia Chengxi. “No need, Uncle Chen. I can see myself out!”
With that, he turned and strode away, back straight. Xia Chengyu stood there, unsure what to do, until Gu Chengxi shot him a glance. “Didn’t you hear what I said?”
Xia Chengyu’s heart trembled. He pressed his lips together, tears streaming down his face, and ran out sobbing.
Without caring that Uncle Chen was still present, Xia Chengxi grabbed a cushion and hurled it at Gu Chengxi. “Gu Chengxi, you bastard! Don’t even think about stepping into my room or getting into my bed for the next few days!”
He stormed upstairs, slamming the door with such force that the entire villa seemed to shake.
Uncle Chen smiled awkwardly, but Gu Chengxi didn’t seem to mind that his lover had made him lose face. He instructed Uncle Chen, “Uncle Chen, could you please cook some congee that Xia Xia likes? After all this fuss, he probably won’t have an appetite for dinner tonight.”
“Don’t worry, sir. I understand.”
Lovers’ quarrels are always short-lived, but this was the first time Young Master Xia had shown such displeasure. It was quite a novelty.
Gu Chengxi went upstairs and stood outside the door, knocking gently. In a humble tone, he said, “Xia Xia, open the door. It’s me, your brother. I’m here to apologize.”
“No need. Go find your Zhao Yi. Don’t bother me.”
Gu Chengxi stood at the door, looking utterly pitiful. “I swear, I really have nothing to do with him. I thought he had gone to the United States. I never expected him to come here while I was away. Xia Xia, please open the door. Let me explain face to face. Be good, okay?”
Downstairs, Uncle Chen overheard the entire conversation, bending over and trembling uncontrollably.
The poor old butler, who had served the Gu family for decades, was nearly overcome with laughter at Gu Chengxi’s words.
Truly, there is always someone who can rein in another. The esteemed Mr. Gu, who had enjoyed years of prestige, had finally met his match.
