Edge of A Burning Kiss - Chapter 7
Xia Jin was caught off guard as she was practically force-fed several gulps of water. She hurriedly grabbed Qin Yu’s hand holding the cup, trying to push it away.
Feeling the warmth of Xia Jin’s hand against his, Qin Yu froze for a moment before complying with her motion and putting the cup aside.
Xia Jin was stunned. “What the! who feeds a sick person like that?!”
Qin Yu, on the other hand, tugged awkwardly at the hem of his pajamas but remained sharp-tongued. “Then how should I do it? Like in those ridiculous new dramas from Stellar Cube… mouth-to-mouth?”
“Hah? As if Lelai hasn’t produced its fair share of cheesy prime-time soap operas! Your love triangles and ‘chasing wives to the crematorium’ plots are way more absurd than ours!”
Before Qin Yu could retort, Xia Jin suddenly raised a hand to stop him.
“Qin Yu, I’m sick right now. You have to indulge me, or I’ll hire trolls to spread the word that Qin Yu of Lelai bullies the weak, elderly, and disabled.”
It had to be said, Xia Jin truly knew how to play the media game, befitting someone from the entertainment industry.
Qin Yu couldn’t be bothered to argue with a sick person. “What do you want for breakfast?”
“Huh? You can cook?”
In Xia Jin’s mind, Qin Yu was the epitome of a pampered young master who’d never lifted a finger in the kitchen.
“Of course-”
Qin Yu answered with absolute confidence, but before Xia Jin could react in surprise, he added,
“-Of course not.”
The two stared at each other for two seconds before Qin Yu solemnly continued, “But I can have someone prepare it and deliver it.”
Xia Jin: “…”
Thanks for coming all the way here just to order takeout for me. Unfortunately, my hands still work, and I can order my own food. You’re just here way too early.
With a thud, Xia Jin flopped back onto the bed. “I don’t want to eat. Just feed Fanbao some dog food, the kibble and beef jerky are in the kitchen.”
After explaining the portions to Qin Yu, she remembered his past antics and warned him sternly, “And no extra cans! Fanbao is already overweight! Over! Weight!”
Upon hearing this, Fanbao, who had been sitting obediently by the bed, anxiously pawed at Qin Yu’s leg, desperately lobbying for his canned food.
Qin Yu glanced down at him and shrugged helplessly. “Can’t help it. Xia Jin’s sick today, what she says goes.”
Understanding his words, Fanbao whined pitifully, circled once, and then returned to Xia Jin’s side.
He stood up, carefully placing his front paws on Xia Jin’s arm and nudging his head toward her for pets.
Xia Jin’s heart melted at the sight. She lifted the blanket and patted the bed. “Aww, Mommy’s good boy! Come here, let me hug you!”
Fanbao immediately leaped onto the bed, making it shake as he burrowed into Xia Jin’s embrace.
Qin Yu, watching from the side, sighed inwardly. Here he was, neglecting a pile of Qin Corporation business just to fuss over Xia Jin, and yet, she never treated him the way she treated Fanbao.
Hugging Fanbao, Xia Jin urged, “Hurry up and get the dog food. Our Fanbao’s practically wasting away from hunger.”
“He nearly broke the bed just now, skipping one meal won’t hurt.”
Despite his words, Qin Yu obediently went to prepare Fanbao’s food.
By the time he finished and returned to the bedroom, Xia Jin had fallen asleep again.
Qin Yu gazed at her for a few seconds before sighing and shooing Fanbao off the bed. “Go eat.”
Qin Yu carefully tucked the blanket around Xia Jin. Sensing movement beside her in her sleep, Xia Jin mistook it for Fanbao and instinctively nuzzled her face against the back of Qin Yu’s hand.
Qin Yu froze mid-motion, still bent over in his previous posture.
Xia Jin, whom he had missed dearly during his eight years abroad, was now lying right before him, within arm’s reach. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly.
After a long silence, Qin Yu let out a soft sigh and smiled. “It’s alright. We have plenty of time ahead of us.”
Xia Jin slept until noon before waking up. When she got out of bed, she realized Qin Yu was no longer at home.
He had sent her a WeChat message: “Had some things to take care of. I’ll come back once I’m done. Bought you lunch, it’s in the microwave. Remember to eat on time.”
Xia Jin got out of bed but found that her slippers had been carried off somewhere by Fanbao.
So she padded barefoot across the floor and casually sent Qin Yu a sticker in reply, letting him know she got the message.
Opening the microwave, she discovered he had bought sweet and sour pork ribs, lotus root stuffed with meat, and other dishes, all her favorites.
[Xia Jin: Your assistant, Chi Fan, is really on top of things. He even knows what I like to eat.]
Qin Yu replied almost immediately.
[Qin Yu: ?]
[Qin Yu: I bought that for you. So in your mind, all the bad things are done by me, and all the good things are done by Chi Fan?]
Xia Jin raised an eyebrow. Really? How would Qin Yu know what she liked to eat?
[Qin Yu: Wear your slippers. Don’t walk barefoot on the floor.]
Wait… how did Qin Yu know she wasn’t wearing slippers? Xia Jin glanced around warily. Had he installed surveillance in her house?
[Xia Jin: How did you know?]
[Qin Yu: While you were asleep, Fanbao ran off with your slippers more times than I can count.]
[Xia Jin: …]
Meanwhile, on the other end, Qin Yu had been summoned back to the Qin family home by his grandfather’s incessant phone calls.
Qin Yuanliang cradled a thermos cup as he lectured Qin Yu. “When I was your age, your grandmother and I already had your uncle…”
After a long-winded speech, he noticed Qin Yu was staring at his phone, nodding absentmindedly without even looking up.
Qin Yuanliang’s temper flared. “You ungrateful brat! Are you even listening to me?!”
Qin Yu sighed and finally put his phone down. “I heard you! I heard you! Grandpa, isn’t it just a granddaughter-in-law you want? I’m working on it, but you dragged me back here with your call!”
Qin Yuanliang was momentarily speechless. After a long pause, he muttered, “You brat! If you’re already pursuing someone, why didn’t you say so earlier?! I already told Old Guan’s granddaughter to go to your place to see you!”
Qin Yu shot to his feet in alarm. “Where did you send her?!”
“Your home, the one in Sheng’an.” Realizing he might have messed up, Qin Yuanliang lowered his voice. “Anyway, Xiao Shi won’t run into the girl when she gets there. Just send her away later.”
“How could she not run into her?!” Qin Yu panicked. “The girl lives right next door to me!”
Now Qin Yuanliang was alarmed too. “What?! You brat! Then why are you still here? Hurry back!”
Qin Yu grabbed his coat and bolted for the door. “Grandpa, I’m leaving!”
Qin’s mother, Jiang Yubei, watched her son rush off down the stairs and turned to Qin Yuanliang in confusion. “Dad, what’s Xiao Yu in such a hurry for?”
Qin Yuanliang refused to admit it was his fault. Awkwardly stroking his beard, he chuckled, “That kid forgot to turn off the gas and rushed back to deal with it.”
Jiang Yubei muttered in confusion, “Does Xiao Yu even know how to use the gas stove?”
Meanwhile, the other party involved was still leisurely eating in the living room. She even sent Qin Yu a WeChat message, asking him to buy some apples on his way back.
