- Chapter 73 - Say Hello to your Parents
“What are your parents like, Kengorou-san?”
It was during one of our usual dates at Haruki’s place when she suddenly asked me that.
Well, I guess it makes sense she’d be curious.
I couldn’t blame her.
After all, I already knew quite a lot about Haruki’s family. Maybe too much. I visited her house often enough that I felt like part of the household.
Calling myself family might be an exaggeration, but honestly, I was probably closer to them than most distant relatives.
And yet, Haruki had never met my parents.
In fact, now that I think about it, I’d never even talked about them to her before.
I guess it’s time I did.
“Well, my parents are—how should I put it—just normal people.”
“Normal?”
“Yeah, just normal.”
They’re nothing like the Ayase family with their medical background.
Both of my parents are regular office workers.
That’s really the only way I can describe them.
The truth is, I don’t even know exactly what kind of jobs they do.
They’ve always avoided talking about work at home. Maybe they didn’t want to bring stress or negativity into the family. A way to protect their child, I suppose.
Of course, only they truly know how they feel about it.
“Hmm.”
Haruki tilted her head, clearly unsatisfied with such a vague answer.
And I can’t blame her. Saying “normal” doesn’t explain much at all.
I realized how half-baked my answer sounded.
But honestly, there was a reason behind my reluctance.
Part of me had always hesitated to introduce Haruki to my parents.
There were a few reasons for that.
For one, my parents only had any real connection with Fuyumi—the one person in the Ayase family they interacted with.
Depending on how much they knew, they might not react well to me dating Haruki.
Even without knowing the details, just the fact that I was dating a high school girl might raise concerns. My parents are pretty conventional.
That’s why I never seriously considered introducing her to them before.
But I also knew things couldn’t stay like this forever. And I never intended for them to.
“Do you want to meet them, Haruki?”
“Of course I do! They’re going to be my family too, after all.”
“……”
Right. Of course.
With that, there was only one answer I could give.
“Okay. I’ll get in touch with them.”
“Yay, I’m really looking forward to it!”
