- Chapter 72 - The fall of the other man
“What?”
I couldn’t process it.
“What did you just say?”
Right now, I was surrounded.
One of them was the university president.
Another was the soccer club advisor—who also happened to be a board director.
The rest included the hospital director and several other high-ranking officials.
I’d been suddenly summoned to the president’s office, only to find myself hemmed in by all these important people.
And then they said something completely absurd.
“I’ll say it as many times as needed, Natsuyama-kun.”
The board director crossed his arms and leaned back in his chair, looking down at me with a sour expression.
“You are being expelled. This decision is final.”
“T-That’s absurd!”
I shouted, enraged.
It was far too unreasonable.
“What the hell did I even do?!”
“Sexual misconduct with a minor.”
Crack—the air froze.
No—that wasn’t it.
The air didn’t freeze. I did.
“W-What?”
My eyes slowly shifted.
I looked at the soccer advisor.
He said nothing—just glared at me.
So he sold me out.
He really did it.
He’s insane.
What the hell does he think I am?
“As doctors and medical students, we are expected to uphold a certain level of ethics. Of course, some mischief is to be expected—especially from students.”
“T-Then—”
I was about to argue that expulsion was too much.
But the president spoke before I could.
“But a crime is a crime.”
His tone was flat.
Yet his words carried a crushing weight that left no room for argument.
I couldn’t say anything.
“Doctors are guardians of public health. We live within order. If we ourselves do not uphold the law, what value does medicine have? Who could we possibly hope to save?”
He wasn’t saying we had to be saints.
Just that there was a line we could never cross.
And I had crossed it.
He explained this to me calmly—almost gently.
“No. No, no, no.”
I was supposed to be king.
I was always number one.
Academics, athletics, girls—I ruled them all.
I was born into a prestigious family.
Money, women, fame—anything I wanted, I got.
And I believed, without a shred of doubt, that I always would.
So why was this happening?
“I’m the best! I’m the greatest!”
Which meant—I didn’t deserve to be treated like this.
“That’s delusional. You’re neither strong nor great. You’re simply… guilty.”
The president spoke dispassionately.
“Atone for your crimes. If you do, perhaps one day…”
I didn’t want to hear it anymore.
“AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!”
I couldn’t take it.
Screaming, I lunged at the president.
My fist swung, driven purely by impulse.
But the advisor grabbed me from behind, locking my arms in a tight hold.
“AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!”
My screams echoed throughout the room.
