- Chapter 102 (THE END) - His and her epilogue
That Christmas Eve night, when we shared our first kiss…
Haruki and I didn’t go all the way—physically or emotionally.
Unfortunately.
But it makes sense.
Haruki is still underage.
Even if deep down, I wanted it…
Even if Haruki was ready to give me her heart…
Neither Setsuko-san nor the law would allow it.
And so, with a heavy heart, I brought Haruki back to the main house last night, while I returned to the guesthouse to sleep.
Not that I got any actual sleep—I was far too wound up for that.
“Ugh, my head hurts.”
Grimacing through a pounding headache, I got dressed.
For the record, I was borrowing Tokishirōu-san’s clothes.
They were the only men’s clothes around, so I didn’t have much choice.
Not that I minded wearing them, but…
They didn’t fit.
Tokishirōu-san is a good ten centimeters taller than me, after all.
I slipped on my shoes and stepped outside the guesthouse, heading toward the main residence.
I felt ready.
“It’s been a while.”
“Good morning, Kengorōu-san.”
“Ah—yeah. Good morning.”
“Are you sure it’s okay for me to come in?”
“Yeah. Seems like everything’s fine.”
Ever since I broke things off with Fuyumi, I hadn’t stepped foot in the Ayase family’s main house.
Too many memories of her were embedded in these halls.
So many that even approaching this place felt impossible.
But now, things were different.
“It’s thanks to you, Haruki.”
“Me?”
She sounded half-asleep, or maybe just a little emotionally overwhelmed.
Even her usual slangy gyaru-speak was absent as she looked at me, puzzled.
“Yeah. You were there for me. You helped me repaint the emptiness. I’m who I am today because of you.”
“…”
When I was at my lowest, she stayed by my side.
She smiled for me, even when I had nothing left.
When I thought I’d lost everything—that I was hollow inside—she gave me a reason to live again.
I don’t think she even realizes how much that meant to me.
But the fact that I’m still standing here… that’s proof enough.
“Haruki.”
“What?”
“I love you.”
“Whuh.”
Just like that, her face turned bright red.
Instant reaction. So easy to read.
And honestly, I adored that about her.
Not just her face.
Her little quirks, her voice, the graceful girl underneath, her bold makeup and trendy fashion…
And above all, her gentle, caring heart that she always showed me.
I love all of it. Every last part of her.
“Geez. One kiss and now you’re getting all intense.”
“Ahaha, was it too much?”
“No, not at all. But—”
Suddenly, Haruki closed the distance between us.
She wrapped her arms around my neck.
And just like that, our lips met again—for the first time in a few hours.
Her warmth, her softness—it all came rushing back through that kiss.
“Haruki.”
“Kengorōu-san.”
“My, my—things are heating up this morning!”
“Pfft!”
Haruki and I both burst out laughing.
We turned—carefully—to the source of the voice.
And there she was: Setsuko-san, holding up her smartphone.
“Mom! What are you doing?”
“What? Can’t I enjoy the view? Thank you for the lovely moment!”
“Breakfast comes after this—delete that right now!”
“Ahaha.”
All I could do was laugh awkwardly as Haruki and Setsuko-san started bickering cheerfully.
Sure, the future might throw all kinds of things our way.
But the two of them, they’ll be just fine.
I really believe that.
With that thought in mind, we stepped into the Ayase main house together, ready to prepare breakfast.
“Hey, Kengorōu-san?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you too. So, so much.”
“Yeah.”
THE END.
