- Chapter 101 - The other man's epilogue
“Damn it, what the hell is going on?”
I slammed my fist into the wall in frustration.
No response.
Just the dull echo bouncing off the walls of this cage.
Yeah—that’s right. I’m sitting in a police station holding cell.
After getting into that scuffle with Fuyumi, I was taken down by the cops and arrested on the spot for assault.
And to make things worse? I resisted—pretty hard, apparently—so now they’re slapping me with obstruction of justice, too.
“What’s going to happen to me?”
I couldn’t stop shaking.
Not because the heating was poor—this wasn’t that kind of cold.
It was fear. Bone-deep fear for what was coming next that made my body tremble.
My dad had bailed me out once before—when I got caught for statutory rape.
But even then, who knows how that’s going to play out now?
He told me to lay low. But the second he decided I was beyond saving, he threw me out.
And now this.
How far have I fallen?
Am I really about to become a full-on criminal?
“What do I do, what do I do?”
“You’ve got a visitor.”
“Huh?”
I was spiraling, drowning in despair, when the guard called out.
But maybe this wasn’t a bad sign.
“Yeah. No way it ends like this for me. Not me.”
I’m meant to be a king.
From the day I was born, it was decided—I’d inherit the hospital and become the local ruler.
I’m superior. A cut above.
Sure, a bunch of worthless nobodies tried to drag me down, but I won’t stay down.
“Well, it’s been a while.”
“Y-You, you’re my dad’s legal advisor, aren’t you?”
On the other side of the glass sat a short man I recognized instantly.
I’d seen him a few times.
Actually, every time I screwed up, he was the one who cleaned up after me.
Though, honestly, he probably spent more time covering up my dad’s scandals than mine.
“This time, I’m here at your mother’s request,” he said with a faint smirk.
“She asked me to at least try to reduce your sentence—to make sure the fallout doesn’t land too hard on her. Isn’t that touching? A mother’s love.”
That smug, condescending smile stayed plastered on his face as he stared at me.
“W-Wait a sec. I can still get out of this, right? You’re gonna help me, just like before, yeah?”
“Let me be clear—people like you and your father don’t matter anymore. You’re both finished, and that’s that.”
“What?”
“The pay was low, so don’t expect me to go above and beyond. If you want to blame someone, blame yourself. And your father.”
So, even my dad had gone down?
He was my last hope.
I really believed he’d save me again—like he always did.
And now, finding out that was all just a lie… I felt something inside me finally shatter.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!”
I don’t understand anything anymore.
Where, where did I go wrong?
