- Chapter 100 - Ex-girlfriends epilogue
“That’s enough.”
A voice rang out.
A voice that shouldn’t have been there—yet somehow, unmistakably, it was.
Quiet, yet commanding. Calm, yet sharp as steel.
It wasn’t a voice I liked.
And yet, just hearing it made my feet freeze where I stood.
“Ah.”
“Huh?”
I wasn’t the only one who heard it.
Natsuyama-senpai, who had been grabbing at me, turned toward the voice in shock.
“Dad.”
“Wait—your dad? You mean the one from Ayase General Hospital?”
“You bastard, don’t screw with me!”
“Hmm?”
“This is all your fault! Because of you, I!”
“Ah, so you’re Natsuyama-kun. I’ve heard quite a bit about you.”
My father stared at Natsuyama-senpai with cold, emotionless eyes.
Even as Senpai stood there with wild hair, ranting and raving like a madman, my father remained completely unshaken.
Terrifyingly calm.
“Ugh.”
“You’re not scary in the slightest,” he said flatly.
“People like you never are.”
“Wh-What?”
“Someone who hurts others without remorse. If that’s how you live, eventually everyone will turn their backs on you. You’re just a naked king, lost in his own delusion.”
“A—hah.”
When my father said “king,” it struck a chord in Natsuyama-senpai.
Or so it seemed to me.
Maybe I imagined it. But it definitely looked like something had hit him deep.
His body trembled violently. To me, he was nothing but a figure of fear now.
“Don’t screw with me, you son of a—ghah!”
Just as he lunged, Natsuyama-senpai’s body froze mid-motion.
Two police officers—when had they arrived?—had seized him, pinning his arms behind his back.
Maybe they had happened to hear the commotion.
Or maybe my father had called them in from the start.
I had no idea how he even knew where to find us.
“Back in police custody again, huh? I doubt we’ll ever meet again. Come on, Fuyumi.”
“Damn it, get back here!”
“Hey! Don’t move, idiot!”
As Natsuyama-senpai screamed behind us, I started walking, my father leading the way.
“How did you know where I was?”
“I installed a location-sharing app on your phone. If you wander off, Setsuko and I get notified immediately.”
“I see.”
He hadn’t come to protect me.
Or—maybe that was part of it, but I understood now: his true reason for coming was to protect Haruki and Kengorou from me.
No wonder he took time off work to find me.
And suddenly, I felt like laughing.
Not at my father—at myself.
How selfish had I been, really?
“Fuyumi, you.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry.”
First, I’d go back to the villa.
Then I’d face what I’d done, take responsibility, and move forward.
One step at a time, grounded and deliberate.
“I’ll be installing surveillance cameras from now on.”
“Okay.”
My path to starting over had only just begun.
