- Chapter 8 - Changing Bodies and Deepening Bonds
Haruka stopped in front of the closet and sighed. The dress she could wear just yesterday no longer fit at all today. Her stomach was stretched taut, and the zipper stopped halfway.
“I guess… it’s no use.”
As she murmured in resignation, Mana peeked her face in.
“What’s wrong?”
“Look at this dress. I could wear it until yesterday…”
Seeing Haruka’s teary eyes, Mana smiled gently.
“I’m the same. Look.”
Mana showed her the blouse she was wearing. The fabric was slightly strained between the buttons, creating gaps.
“Lately, my body keeps changing more and more. It makes me happy, but also a little sad…”
At Mana’s words, Haruka stood in front of the mirror. Indeed, her belly was growing day by day, her breasts were fuller, and her body’s contours were transforming. Looking at her own changing form, complex emotions welled up inside her.
“You know, at first I was scared of my body changing like this. But…”
When Haruka’s words faltered, Mana gently hugged her from behind.
“But?”
“But when I saw you changing in the same way, I somehow felt reassured. That we’re both growing bigger together feels so mysterious… but it makes me happy.”
Mana rested her chin on Haruka’s shoulder, gazing at their reflections in the mirror.
“Haruka, you look so beautiful.”
“Huh?”
“Just look. Your belly is so round and precious. And your cheeks have softened too… It’s all proof that you’re becoming a mother.”
At Mana’s words, tears spilled from Haruka’s eyes.
“Lately I cry so easily… Must be the hormones.”
“No, that’s wonderful too. When I look at you, I feel like crying too.”
The two gazed at their reflections in the mirror and chuckled together.
“Hey, want to go look at maternity clothes together?”
At Mana’s suggestion, Haruka nodded happily.

On the weekend, the maternity shop they visited was filled with clothes in gentle colors.
“Ah, Mana, this dress is so cute!”
Haruka picked up a pale pink dress. The waistline flowed gently outward, designed to envelop the growing belly.
“That would suit you. Want to try it on?”
When Haruka emerged from the fitting room, Mana gasped.
“So cute…! Haruka, you look just like an angel.”
At Mana’s honest impression, Haruka blushed. Looking at her reflection in the mirror, she began to feel more confident.
“Maybe I’ll try something on too.”
Mana chose a soft aqua tunic. When she came out wearing it, Haruka couldn’t help but exclaim.
“Mana, you look amazing! That color makes your skin tone look so beautiful.”
They complimented each other’s appearances, smiling happily together. The confusion they’d felt about their changing bodies was gradually transforming into warm anticipation.
“Hey, we’re going to get even bigger from now on, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, but it’s okay. Because we can change together.”
Mana and Haruka held hands and smiled gently at each other. The bewilderment about their transforming bodies was becoming precious memories through sharing it together. And those changes, as proof of nurturing new life, were binding their hearts ever more deeply.
