- Double Mother: The Miracle Woven by Haruka and Mana's Love
- Chapter 6 - The Recipe for Happiness Spreading at the Dining Table
A savory aroma drifted from the kitchen. Haruka stood peering over Mana’s shoulder, resting her chin there. Colorful vegetables danced lightly in the frying pan.
“Wow, that smells amazing…”
At Haruka’s voice, Mana nodded happily. Her morning sickness had settled down, and both of them were gradually able to enjoy meals again.
“Right? I tried stir-frying it with a special sauce today,” Mana said proudly, making Haruka hug her spontaneously. The warmth coming from Mana’s back felt comforting.
“But Haruka-chan, don’t get your hopes up too much. Since my sense of taste is still changing, it might not taste the same as usual.”
Haruka chuckled softly at Mana’s words. It was true—since getting pregnant, both their taste preferences had been shifting. Foods they used to love suddenly became unappealing, while things they’d previously disliked started tasting delicious.
“It’s strange for me too. Just yesterday I couldn’t stand tomatoes, and today I suddenly crave them.”
“In my case, I suddenly started liking bell peppers, which I hardly ever ate before.”
They looked at each other and giggled softly. Seeing Mana’s cheeks tinted a beautiful pink made Haruka’s chest feel warm.
“Mana-chan, you’re so cute! You look absolutely wonderful when you’re cooking.”
“Oh, Haruka-chan, you… Ah! It’s burning!”
Watching Mana frantically handle the frying pan made Haruka want to hug her again, but she decided to behave and stand quietly beside her, watching over Mana’s cooking.
Sitting across from each other at the table set with dishes, the warm evening light gently illuminated the plates.
“Let’s eat!”
In unison, they reached for their chopsticks. With the first bite, Haruka’s eyes sparkled.
“It’s delicious! This is really delicious!”
“Really? I’m glad…”
Mana smiled with relief. As Haruka continued eating, she occasionally glanced at Mana’s expression. Watching her enjoy the food was healing.
“You know, it’s strange, isn’t it? During morning sickness, I couldn’t eat anything, but now everything tastes so wonderful.”
“Yeah. I’m sure the babies are happy too.”
At Mana’s words, Haruka instinctively placed a hand on her stomach. Indeed, she felt like the lives inside her were enjoying this meal too.
“Remember what the nutritionist said the other day? That nutritional balance is especially important from now on.”
“Yeah, so let’s try different ingredients while keeping an eye on each other’s condition.”
Haruka nodded happily at Mana’s suggestion. They could build new eating habits while supporting each other. It felt like they were shaping the form of their family-to-be.
“Ah, I made dessert too! I used the fruits you like, Haruka-chan…”
Just as Mana started to stand up, Haruka reached out to stop her.
“Wait, I’ll clean up today. You just sit back and relax, Mana-chan.”
“But…”
“It’s fine! You cooked this delicious meal. Let me do at least this much?”
Mana smiled bashfully at Haruka’s words. That expression was so endearing that Haruka couldn’t help kissing Mana’s cheek.
“Eh… Oh! Haruka-chan, you…”
Seeing Mana hide her flushed face with both hands filled Haruka’s chest with happiness. Being able to enjoy meals together like this was truly wonderful. Now that they’d overcome the morning sickness, she felt that joy even more strongly.
