- Double Mother: The Miracle Woven by Haruka and Mana's Love
- Chapter 3 - Hope Beyond Tears
The quiet air in the hallway made their heartbeats stand out. Haruka tightly grasped Mana’s hand, staring at the examination room door. This was the third time they were about to hear the results. Yet, the tension felt no different from the first time. If anything, it seemed to grow heavier with each visit.
“Mana-san, Haruka-san, please come in.”
At the nurse’s voice, they nodded slightly to each other.
When they entered the examination room, the doctor was waiting with a gentle smile. But they could already tell the outcome from his expression.
“I’m sorry to say, but we couldn’t confirm implantation this time either.”
At the doctor’s words, Haruka unconsciously squeezed Mana’s hand tighter. Mana returned the pressure just as firmly.
“But there’s no need to give up. You’re both still young, and…”
The doctor’s encouraging words seemed to reach them from somewhere far away.
After leaving the examination room, they left the hospital in silence. Though the soft spring breeze caressed their cheeks, their hearts remained cold.
“Haruka-chan…”
Mana called out gently, pulling Haruka close by the shoulder. At that warmth, tears spilled from Haruka’s eyes.
“Did I do something wrong? Does the baby hate me?”
At Haruka’s trembling voice, Mana shook her head firmly.
“No! You haven’t done anything wrong, Haruka-chan. It’s just not the right time yet. I’m sure our baby is waiting for us a little further ahead.”
At Mana’s words, Haruka lifted her face. In Mana’s eyes, along with the sadness, was a strong determination. Gazing at her own reflection in those eyes, Haruka gradually calmed her heart.
“We can still keep trying, right?”
“Yeah, together I’m sure we can.”
They clasped hands again and began walking slowly. The spring warmth gradually warmed their hearts.
One month later, when they finally got the long-awaited positive result, they shared their joy. But that happiness didn’t last long.
“There’s a high probability of miscarriage.”
At the words spoken in the examination room, the strength drained from Haruka’s body. Mana immediately supported Haruka and held her tightly.
“Why…?”
Mana couldn’t answer Haruka’s faint whisper. She just continued holding Haruka’s trembling body.
That night, they lay close together in bed, crying quietly. Haruka buried her face in Mana’s chest, while Mana gently stroked Haruka’s hair. They both carried a pain that couldn’t be put into words.
“Maybe we should stop.”
Haruka spoke in a trembling voice.
“Maybe it’s just impossible for us after all…”
As if to cut off Haruka’s words, Mana cupped Haruka’s cheeks in both hands.
“No, Haruka-chan. We have a chance. The fact that we got a positive result means the possibility is definitely there, right?”
At Mana’s serious gaze, Haruka caught her breath. Those eyes held such strong will that Haruka’s heart gradually grew warmer.
“But… I’m scared. What if the same thing happens again?”
“I’ll be with you. Whenever you’re scared, I’ll always hold you.”
Saying this, Mana gently embraced Haruka. Haruka’s soft hair brushed against Mana’s cheek, its scent calming her heart.
“Mana-chan… how are you so strong?”
“I’m not strong at all. I can only keep trying because I’m with you.”
At Mana’s words, Haruka formed a small smile. Looking up at Mana with tear-moistened eyes, her heart was healed by that gentle expression.
“Maybe I… can keep trying a little longer too, if I’m with Mana-chan.”
“Yeah, let’s keep trying together? For our baby.”
They gazed quietly at each other and gently pressed their lips together. In the stillness of the spring night, their determination took fresh root. Starting tomorrow, they would move forward step by step with hope in their hearts. Yes, that’s what they pledged to themselves.
