- Chapter 17 - All Set! The Days of Welcoming the Quadruplets
On a holiday morning, Haruka and Mana visited a baby specialty store. Various baby goods lined the shelves, and both their eyes sparkled with excitement.
“Hey, Mana-chan, this crib is adorable!”
Haruka pointed at a white wooden crib. Mana approached and gave a gentle smile.
“It really is. But we need four of them, so maybe something more compact would be better.”
When Mana voiced her practical opinion, Haruka puffed out her cheeks slightly. Finding that expression cute, Mana couldn’t resist poking Haruka’s cheek.
“Oh, Mana-chan! But you’re right. We have to think carefully about our quadruplets.”
As they walked through the store, they listed the necessary items. Cribs, diapers, formula, bottles… Just thinking about it all made their heads spin.
“Ah, this bottle set might be good. It comes with four.”
Haruka squinted at the bottles Mana picked up. The animals painted on the transparent bottles were utterly charming.
“Yeah, these are nice! Our babies can all use the same ones.”
After finishing their shopping and returning home, the two began arranging their purchases. Looking at the tiny socks and hats, they imagined their unborn children and couldn’t help but smile naturally.
“Hey, Mana-chan…”
Haruka gazed at Mana’s profile while gently reaching out her hand.
“What is it?”
“Do you think we can really do this? Taking care of four babies.”
Mana took Haruka’s hand and squeezed it gently.
“It’ll be fine. There are two of us. Besides, the doctor at the maternity hospital the other day was cheering us on, wasn’t he?”
Remembering their recent hospital tour, Haruka nodded, seeming somewhat reassured. Indeed, both the doctor and midwife had understood their situation and listened to them with genuine care.
“That’s true. Everyone was so kind.”
Mana sat beside Haruka and leaned her head against Haruka’s shoulder. The soft scent of Haruka’s hair brought her comfort.
“You know, I still have dreams sometimes. Dreams of us playing in the park with our four babies.”
“Eh, I have those too! Dreams where we’re all laughing together.”
They looked at each other and chuckled softly, happy to discover they’d been having similar dreams.
“I’m sure our dreams will come true.”
When Mana said this, Haruka nodded happily.
“Yeah! Our children will definitely grow up healthy and full of energy.”
As evening fell, the two sat side by side on the bed, looking at the baby clothes they’d prepared. Each time they picked up a tiny outfit, their anticipation for their new life together grew.
“They’re so cute! Really tiny.”
“Yeah, but our treasures will be inside these.”
At Mana’s words, Haruka’s eyes grew moist. Mana’s profile, illuminated by the evening sun, looked incredibly beautiful.
“Hey, Mana-chan.”
“What?”
“I love you.”
At these sudden words, Mana blushed slightly but smiled gently.
“I love you too, Haruka-chan. Always, from now on.”
Their hands overlapping, they spent a peaceful moment feeling the heartbeat of the lives within them. The evening sun streaming through the window seemed to gently illuminate the beginning of their new family.
