- Double Mother: The Miracle Woven by Haruka and Mana's Love
- Chapter 13 - Tears and Smiles at the Reunion in My Family Home
On a weekend afternoon, Haruka and Mana visited Haruka’s family home. When they opened the front door, Haruka’s mother greeted them with a gentle smile. The stiffness from before had vanished, replaced by a soft light in her expression.
“My, your belly has grown a bit more,” her mother remarked.
At these words, Haruka instinctively grasped Mana’s hand.
“Yes, they’re both doing well. The baby in Mana’s belly too.”
Haruka’s father was also in the living room. He stopped reading the newspaper and looked at them. His formerly stern expression had disappeared, replaced by a somewhat gentle gaze.
“Have a seat. You must be tired,” her father said.
Haruka’s eyes widened at his voice. She still wasn’t used to such kind words from her father.
“Let me make some tea for both of you,” her mother said, starting to head to the kitchen.
Mana stood up. “Let me help.”
“It’s alright, Mana. In your condition…”
“But the doctor said it’s good for me to move around,” Mana replied.
After a moment’s thought, her mother nodded. When they were alone in the kitchen, her mother spoke softly to Mana.
“Thank you, Mana. For always supporting Haruka.”
At these words, Mana’s eyes unexpectedly moistened.
“I’m the one who… I’m so happy to have Haruka with me.”
In the living room, Haruka faced her father. An awkward silence hung between them.
“Um… Dad?”
“Hmm?”
“We’re supporting each other now, raising the baby together. We’ll definitely have a healthy baby, so please look forward to it.”
Her father’s expression changed. Some deep emotion surfaced there.
“I see… So, I’m finally going to be a grandfather. I’ll be a grandpa…”
His voice trembled slightly.
“Yeah. So, would it be okay if we visit often from now on?”
In response to Haruka’s question, her father silently nodded. His eyes glistened faintly with tears.
When Mana and her mother returned from the kitchen and saw this scene, they instinctively exchanged glances.
“My, what’s going on?” her mother asked.
Haruka answered happily, “Dad said we can come visit whenever we want.”
Mana sat beside Haruka and gently placed her hand over Haruka’s. She could feel Haruka’s fingers trembling.
“Of course. From now on, we’ll be taking care of our grandchild,” her mother said brightly, instantly easing the room’s atmosphere.
“Really… is it okay?” Haruka asked uncertainly.
This time, her father answered. “Yes. It means the path you chose wasn’t wrong after all.”
At these words, Haruka couldn’t hold back her tears. Mana gently pulled her close.
“Don’t cry. The baby will worry,” her mother said softly.
Haruka nodded while wiping her tears. “I’m sorry… but I’m just so happy…”
As Mana gently stroked Haruka’s hair, she bowed deeply to Haruka’s parents.
“Please continue to watch over us from now on.”
“We should be saying that. We want to support both of you with all our hearts – as our precious daughters, and as the mothers of the babies who will soon be born.”
At her mother’s words, the entire room filled with warm atmosphere. The evening light streaming through the window seemed to gently illuminate the beginning of a new family bond.
