- Double Mother: The Miracle Woven by Haruka and Mana's Love
- Chapter 1 - The Small Heartbeat That Resonated at the Same Time
Sitting side by side on the living room sofa, Haruka gently took Mana’s hand. Their fingers naturally intertwined. Though the sound of the television could be heard faintly in the background, a different kind of quiet tension lingered between them. Having just returned from the clinic, both were still uncertain how to process this new reality.
“…So, we’re pregnant at the same time.”
Haruka’s quiet murmur echoed through the room, and Mana gave a small nod. They had undergone artificial insemination at nearly the same time, each having resolved to have their own child. That it would succeed for both of them simultaneously.
“Yeah, it’s like a miracle…”
Mana’s face showed a mixture of surprise and slight anxiety. As she gently stroked her stomach, her gaze drifted into the distance. Though this was what they’d both wanted, now that the moment had actually arrived, reality suddenly felt overwhelming.
“How are you feeling, Mana-chan? Has it sunk in yet?”
Haruka asked with some concern. They had always supported each other, but this pregnancy marked a step into a new phase. In response to Haruka’s question, Mana offered a gentle smile.
“Honestly, I’m still a little scared but I’m happy. That we’re both pregnant – it’s kind of unbelievable, isn’t it?”
At these words, Haruka smiled back. Indeed, they were both going to become mothers now. And the love they had nurtured together would now bear fruit as new life.
That day, they went to the neighborhood supermarket together. Though they’d visited this place many times before, today felt different somehow. Perhaps the fact that they both carried new life within them gave the ordinary errand a special quality.
As she pushed the shopping cart, Mana suddenly stopped. She’d become aware of the eyes around them. Ever since they’d publicly revealed their same-sex marriage, curious glances had always followed them. But today’s attention felt different – not just curious, but observant in a more interested way.
“Hey, Haruka-chan… People are still staring, aren’t they?”
Mana spoke to Haruka with some unease. Sensing this, Haruka lightly placed a hand on her shoulder.
“It’s okay, Mana-chan. What others think of us doesn’t matter. What’s important is that we’re happy.”
Reassured by these words, Mana smiled. They had always walked their own path without being swayed by others’ opinions, and she believed this time would be no different.
In the evening, they lay in bed together, talking quietly. The warm lighting from the living room softly enveloped the room.
“Hey, Haruka-chan… I wonder what will become of the children in our wombs.”
When Mana asked this, Haruka gently stroked her hair. The gesture came naturally, reflecting the deep affection flowing between them.
“I don’t know what will happen, but I’m sure it will be wonderful. After all, we’ll be raising them together.”
Mana’s eyes grew teary at these words. The mixture of anticipation and anxiety about becoming mothers made her emotions threaten to overflow.
“Thank you, Haruka-chan. I’m so glad you’re here with me.”
For a while, they held each other’s hands and quietly closed their eyes. No matter how noisy the outside world might be, their private space was filled with peaceful tranquility.
As time passed, they continued their pregnancy journey together. Though they occasionally noticed stares at the supermarket or reactions from people around town, their bond only grew stronger.
While choosing baby clothes together, Haruka suddenly picked up a tiny outfit and showed it to Mana.
“This is cute, isn’t it? It would suit either a boy or a girl.”
Mana looked at the clothing and smiled softly.
“Yeah, it’s really cute… I can almost imagine a baby wearing this.”
Haruka squeezed Mana’s hand in agreement. Their anticipation for the new lives they would welcome together continued to grow. And the fact that they could share this future meant more than anything.
They didn’t know what lay ahead, but they felt certain they could overcome any difficulty together. No matter what others might think, they truly loved and supported each other. And now, that love was about to bear fruit in an even greater form.
