Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 9
“I’m not an idiot. There’s no need for me to handle this alone.” Lu Heguang sat back down in his seat as Aizeer and the others gathered around. “Is your father a count or something like that?”
The Imperial Star operated under two systems: the civil society and certain hereditary positions passed down through noble titles. Over sixty percent of the students at Wyatt Mecha Academy were connected to families under the second system if not directly, then through distant relatives.
Lu Heguang’s earlier words had sparked everyone’s curiosity about his family background. As fellow freshmen, no one knew that Lu Heguang came from a remote small town. Even if he mentioned the town’s name, it was unlikely anyone would recognize it as some obscure, out-of-the-way place.
“Not at all. They’re just ordinary people.” After saying this, Lu Heguang thought of Fei Luo’er. Compared to Lu Ze, who was a succubus, Fei Luo’er was indeed an “ordinary person.”
“Then you’re no match for Parker.” Wen Zhao sighed deeply. “Maybe you should call your father back and tell him not to come? We can handle this ourselves.”
“How?” Lu Heguang asked. “Find a deserted spot, put a sack over his head, and beat him up?”
Aizeer slapped the table. “Great idea.”
“But you just said we can’t compete with Parker’s family background.” Lu Heguang scratched his cheek and explained, “Since he’s using his family to pressure us, we should also seek help from adults, right?”
Wen Zhao was dumbfounded. “That sounds logical, but why does it feel a bit unsatisfying?”
“Don’t worry. The only one who’ll be unsatisfied is Parker.” Lu Heguang yawned, stood up, and said to the group, “Let’s go for a run?”
“Let’s go, let’s go.”
“Chen Wang is really a monster. After just one day, he’s trained us to feel itchy all over if we don’t run a few laps.”
“No choice. My legs are so itchy.”
“I’m going to run two extra laps today!”
The group crowded around Lu Heguang, chattering quietly as they headed downstairs. Even if Chen Wang came to teach the class, he’d probably just make them run again. Might as well take the initiative there was no escaping it anyway.
“Hey, Lu Heguang.” Wen Zhao slowed his pace to walk beside him. “Your father isn’t some big shot, is he?”
“Big shot?”
“Yeah, like a Golden Belt boxer who could beat Parker’s family until they cry for their parents… Or a business tycoon who can turn the world upside down and control the economic lifeline.” Halfway through his sentence, Wen Zhao noticed Lu Heguang staring at him with a complicated expression and immediately lost confidence. “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Have you been reading too many novels?” Since it hadn’t been long since their morning run, there was no need to warm up. Lu Heguang and Wen Zhao jogged steadily at the back of the group. “Those are all fictional. Besides, how can we resort to violence?”
Wen Zhao: “…” But earlier, when you threw the ball at Parker, it looked like you wanted to bend his neck into a U-lock.
“We should solve problems like civilized people.” Lu Heguang picked up the pace, and Wen Zhao had no choice but to keep up. Wyatt Academy didn’t admit many combat students each year this year, there were only two classes. So far, Lu Heguang hadn’t seen anyone from the other class out running. Could it be they didn’t have to do this training?
After hearing Lu Heguang’s question, Wen Zhao glanced back at the teaching building, still catching his breath. “I heard their teacher is a sworn rival of Chen Wang, and their teaching methods are completely different. Maybe they’re studying some tactics? Oh, right, do you know about that thing?”
“What thing?”
“After today ends, we have one more day of classes tomorrow, and then the training period is over.” Wen Zhao winked at him. “After the two-day break, our first official lesson after the start of the semester is the rainforest survival challenge.”
“Where did you hear that?” Lu Heguang asked suspiciously.
“My brother told me. I heard it’s also one of Wyatt’s traditions a rite of passage for freshmen.” Wen Zhao nudged his elbow. “You absolutely have to stick around for it.”
“What do you mean?” Lu Heguang slowed his pace. “Is it an elimination system?”
“Yeah, after the survival challenge, some people will still be eliminated.” Wen Zhao’s eyes sparkled with anticipation. “I heard about this from my brother back in high school. I came to Wyatt specifically to experience the survival challenge myself. What about you?”
“Family work reasons. I transferred here, more or less.” Lu Heguang wasn’t lying after all, Feiluo’er was indeed here on official business. Couldn’t that count as “working”?
Wen Zhao never believed he was Feiluo’er’s son anyway. Even if he tried to explain seriously, Wen Zhao wouldn’t buy it, so it was better to gloss over it.
As they spoke, they had already completed two or three laps, but no one stopped running. It seemed running had been ingrained into their very bones. Someone suddenly shouted loudly, “When the survival challenge comes, we’ll definitely be the fastest runners!”
“Shut up, you!”
Just as Lu Heguang was about to join in the laughter, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure staggering along the sidewalk at the edge of the training field. The person sat down on a bench, yawning while scanning the crowd for something, and suddenly locked eyes with Lu Heguang, momentarily stunned.
“Lu Heguang, you huh? Are you running in the wrong direction?” Wen Zhao was about to continue chatting about his father when he saw Lu Heguang suddenly turn and run toward the edge of the training field. “Where are you going? Who are you looking for?”
“Senior!” Lu Heguang beamed, stepping forward to stop in front of Salorian. “You’re up?”
His voice was unsteady, still carrying the heat from running. Salorian leaned back slightly and waved the unopened breakfast bag in his hand. “Did you bring this for me?”
“Yeah, senior, hurry up and eat. I’ll keep running.” Lu Heguang jogged backward to rejoin the group, waving at him. “Wait for me later. I’ll walk with you.”
Walk?
Salorian didn’t have time to ask where they were going. Had they somehow made some kind of agreement without him knowing?
But looking at the Alpha’s overly radiant smile, Salorian swallowed his words dryly and lowered his head to open the breakfast bag. He took out a still-warm custard tart and brought it to his mouth. “When did this kid figure out I have a sweet tooth?”
“Hey, you’re not really falling for Salorian, are you?” Wen Zhao had been jogging in place, waiting for him to return. “He’s not easy to pursue. He’s not into Alphas…”
“I know, allergic to Alphas,” Lu Heguang said. “But he hasn’t done anything to me so far, has he? Salorian is a really good person.”
“I know he’s a good person, I’m worried about you,” Wen Zhao shook his head. “It’d be fine if you didn’t like him, but what if you pour your heart out to him and at the last moment he just says ‘I don’t like Alphas’ and passes on you?”
“Overthinking it.” Lu Heguang meant that he wouldn’t give Salorian the chance to pass on him, but Wen Zhao automatically interpreted it as Lu Heguang telling him not to worry that he wouldn’t fall for Salorian. Having already considered Lu Heguang a good brother, Wen Zhao let out a long sigh of relief. “Good, good.”
The group returned to the classroom before lunch. Before they could even catch their breath, Chen Wang walked in. “Everyone, pack up.”
“No need. My son asked me to come over. Please, carry on as you were.” A deep, somewhat familiar voice sounded from behind Chen Wang. Aizel immediately straightened up. “Have I heard this voice on the news before?”
“Me too.”
“It sounds familiar, but how could that person.”
The students’ murmurs and whispers abruptly stopped as they recalled the rumors they’d heard earlier that on the first day of training, there had been a minor argument in the cafeteria, and some guy had bragged that his father was the Imperial Marshal, Feiluo’er.
And that person happened to be in their class.
Feeling the gazes of his classmates turning toward him, Lu Heguang silently stood up and met the eyes of the powerful Alpha who slowly walked in from behind Chen Wang. “Father.”
Wen Zhao’s mouth hung open, unsure of what to say.
So everything this guy said was true?!
Under the witness of Chen Wang and another teacher, Feiluo’er had a “friendly” exchange with Parker-Well. From the moment they entered the office to the moment Parker left the freshman floor looking ashen-faced, it took less than two minutes.
Salorian, who had been dragged along by Lu Heguang, only now understood what he meant by “let’s go together.” It turned out Lu Heguang wanted him to witness Parker’s “important moment.”
“How did the Marshal find out about such a trivial matter involving Wyatt?” Salorian asked, one hand in his pocket, the other resting on Lu Heguang’s arm. He frowned, staring at the half-open office door. As if supporting Lu Heguang was tiring, he complained, “Why do you have to be so tall?” But to avoid standing so uncomfortably, he didn’t withdraw his hand.
Lu Heguang was quite pleased with this. His senior didn’t mind his height or the fact that he was still warm from running. “I told on him.”
“Hmm?” Salorian looked up at him. “Well done.”
“I thought you’d say I was being childish,” Lu Heguang said, surprised by the praise.
“Childish? Why would I say that?” Salorian patted his arm, hearing footsteps from inside the office, and straightened up. “If you can’t solve something yourself, ask for help from your parents. Don’t stubbornly endure like I did. Only when you grow up do you realize that just asking your older brother for help can solve things, and you end up suffering for no reason.”
Lu Heguang nodded as if taking the lesson to heart. At that moment, Feiluoer emerged with Chen Wang, the two seemingly having caught up on old times. Lu Heguang noticed a flicker of emotion on Chen Wang’s face.
“Salorian, is everything alright?” Feiluoer asked after seeing Chen Wang off, slowly approaching the two. “Come to the marshal’s residence for dinner the day after tomorrow. Mitchell would love to see you too.”
“Alright, Uncle Feiluoer,” Salorian replied with a hum. Only then did Feiluoer turn his gaze to Lu Heguang. He didn’t say anything to his son, merely reaching out to ruffle his hair before turning to leave.
Lu Heguang stared blankly at his retreating figure, raising a hand to touch his now-messy hair the way he did it felt so much like how Lu Ze would tousle his hair.
In front of Huaiyate Academy, Lu Ze, with his honey-toned skin, leaned against the car, waiting for Feiluoer. Seeing him come out, he didn’t approach but instead tilted his chin upward. “Well?”
“Just as you said, the texture is nice,” Feiluoer replied with a smile. Lu Ze puffed out his chest proudly. “Of course, my son is perfect in every way.”
Feiluoer held back for a long moment but couldn’t resist patting his chest. “Relax a little.”
“What’s wrong? Am I bothering you?”
“Too big,” Feiluoer said, opening the car door and pushing him inside. “I’m afraid I’ll be jealous of everyone who sees you.”
Lu Ze: “…”
