Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 8
Lu Heguang had a very restless night. He dreamed countless dreams, yet no matter what kind of dream it was, the protagonist was always the same person.
In his dreams, he saw Salorian smiling gently at him, only to tell him in the next second with that same smile that he would never be with an Alpha.
Even so, Lu Heguang still stared intently at Salorian in the dream, not wanting to miss a single moment.
Lu Heguang was woken up by Salorian. When he opened his eyes and saw the face by the bed, he was startled: “Sen… Senior!”
“Did you have a nightmare? I couldn’t wake you up no matter how hard I tried.” Salorian yawned. “Did you dream about me? Did I turn into a ghost chasing you in your dream?”
“Why do you ask?” Lu Heguang grabbed his smart device and checked the time. There were still over forty minutes before class. He sighed in relief but still grabbed his clothes and started putting them on.
He decided to go for a couple of laps to distract himself.
“You kept calling my name. Anyone who didn’t know better would think I died and you were summoning my spirit.” Salorian kept yawning as he climbed back into bed, looking like he intended to sleep the whole day. “Don’t wake me. I’m sleeping all day.”
Lu Heguang glanced at the class schedule posted on Salorian’s desk. He had no classes today, so it was better not to disturb him. He rolled out of bed, but as his cheek brushed near the bedside, he caught a strong scent of yarrow flowers.
The Alpha froze for a moment, then looked back at Salorian, who had already fallen asleep, leaving only the back of his head visible. He was sleeping soundly, completely unaware that someone was staring at him.
Lu Heguang’s fingertips brushed the edge of the bed, how long had Salorian stood there before waking him? Long enough for his pheromones to linger on the bedside.
An inexplicable sense of satisfaction filled most of his heart. Lu Heguang chuckled softly, put on the training uniform the housekeeping robot had returned, quietly closed the dorm room door, and left Salorian with a peaceful space to sleep.
He jogged downstairs in high spirits, thinking he would be the only one up so early for a run. But when he reached the training field, he found almost the entire class there, each running with vacant eyes, following the pace from yesterday.
Wen Zhao had already finished two laps and was sitting on the ground drinking water. Seeing Lu Heguang approach, he waved. “You here to run too?”
“Too?”
“Yeah. That bastard Chen Wang, what has he done to our bodies!” Wen Zhao angrily finished his water and complained, “I couldn’t sleep at all. My mind was full of running. If I didn’t run, my feet itched terribly. But if I ran, I felt like I was betraying myself. What a cunning strategy.”
Lu Heguang was doing warm-up exercises. Wen Zhao asked, “Are you the same as us?”
“Huh?” Lu Heguang was still thinking about Salorian and only responded after a moment. “Yeah, I couldn’t sleep. Looks like we’re all in the same boat.”
“Salorian isn’t with you today?” Wen Zhao glanced behind him. “You didn’t do anything to him, did you? Newly differentiated Alphas are the scariest.”
“What are you thinking? He’s my mentor and my senior. How could I possibly do anything to him?” Lu Heguang added the second half of the sentence in his mind without changing his expression. He did want to do something, but his conscience warned him that if he overstepped even the slightest bit, he might never be able to speak to Salorian again.
Wen Zhao was about to tease him a little more when a basketball suddenly came flying toward the two of them. Wen Zhao was startled, but since he was sitting and couldn’t stand up in time, he couldn’t dodge it. Fortunately, Lu Heguang pulled him back, causing him to lean backward and narrowly avoid the ball.
The basketball hit the ground and bounced high into the air, a clear sign of the force behind the throw.
“That scared me,” Wen Zhao said as he got up from the ground. “Who threw that ball?”
“Parker.”
“I threw it.”
Lu Heguang’s answer and the newcomer’s provocation came at the same time. Parker stepped forward to pick up the ball and glanced at the freshmen who had stopped to gather around. “Isn’t it too early for your class? We need this training ground. Go somewhere else.”
“The training ground is a public area. Why don’t you go to another one?” someone retorted defiantly, only to be pulled back by another person. “They’re seniors. Didn’t your mentor tell you? Don’t talk back to them.”
The one who had initially spoken up reluctantly fell silent.
“Be obedient and clear the training ground,” Parker said, looking at Lu Heguang with a challenging glare. He was hoping to see Lu Heguang lose his temper, giving him a chance to get revenge for the humiliation he suffered in the cafeteria when Lu Heguang had knocked him down in front of everyone.
But Lu Heguang remained expressionless from start to finish. Upon hearing Parker’s words, he simply said to his classmates, “Let’s go. It’s a good time for breakfast.”
“Let’s go, let’s go. Once Chen Wang arrives, we won’t have time to eat.”
The group exchanged glances, and in the end, most of them chose to follow Lu Heguang’s suggestion and prepared to leave the training ground. Feeling humiliated, Parker grew furious. He slammed the basketball onto the ground, causing it to bounce and fly toward the crowd, clearly aiming for Lu Heguang.
Wen Zhao noticed his movement, but his reaction wasn’t fast enough to match the speed of the ball. He tried to pull Lu Heguang aside, but the latter seemed to have eyes in the back of his head. He sidestepped the ball and even reached out to intercept it.
A classmate standing behind him, who had nearly been hit, was still shaken. “Th-thank you.”
Lu Heguang imitated Parker by slamming the basketball onto the ground and throwing it straight back at him. However, his aim wasn’t great the ball grazed Parker’s cheek and landed behind him.
“Sorry, I’m not good at basketball,” Lu Heguang said with an apologetic smile to Parker before quietly following his companions out of the training ground, leaving Parker and his lackeys fuming in place.
“Lu Heguang? You were really impressive just now.”
Lu Heguang found an empty table with his breakfast. Not only had he bought breakfast for himself, but he had also brought a portion for Salorian. As soon as he sat down, a few people gathered around him all classmates, though Lu Heguang couldn’t remember their names.
They eagerly introduced themselves one by one and sat down around Lu Heguang, bombarding him with questions. “Didn’t you know that guy just now is the bully of Wyatt?”
“My guide said we can’t let him set his sights on us, or we won’t have a peaceful day for the next few years. How dare you talk back to him?”
“Yeah, I almost got hit by a basketball just now scared me to death. How did you manage to catch it?”
Lu Heguang wasn’t used to handling situations like this and gave a stiff reply to the last person’s question: “I really don’t know how to play basketball.”
Everyone fell silent. Someone whispered, “Doesn’t that make it even more impressive?”
“Yeah, truly amazing,” another chimed in. “I got in through the entrance exam. I don’t want over a decade of hard work to go to waste because of Parker.”
“He’s just a person,” Lu Heguang said, taking a bite of his pancake. His cheek bulged with the savory taste of shredded potatoes, though he thought it wasn’t as good as what Lu Ze made. “There’s nothing to be afraid of. He wouldn’t dare lay a hand on us directly.”
Little did Lu Heguang know his words would come true. Before class started, he hurried back to the dormitory to leave breakfast for Salorian on his desk, along with a small note he wasn’t about to play the role of some selfless helper; if he did something, Salorian had to know.
Salorian was still asleep, looking as though he could sleep until the end of the world. Lu Heguang stood by his bed for a moment, feeling a bit like a creep, then quietly slipped out and returned to class. As soon as he arrived, he saw Chen Wang stride into the classroom. “Aizel, what happened?”
Lu Heguang glanced at Wen Zhao, who pointed toward the front of the room. A beige-haired Alpha stood up, his face bruised and swollen, as if he’d been beaten up on the ground.
“It’s Parker,” Wen Zhao whispered. “He targeted Aizel when he was alone on his way back to the classroom. By the time we got there, he’d already taken his people and left.”
“Teacher Chen, I’m fine,” Aizel said, wincing as speaking tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I can keep training.”
“Will Chen Wang handle this?” Lu Heguang asked quietly. “Parker attacked Ezel because of me.”
“We all know,” Wen Zhao shrugged, lowering his voice. “But don’t worry, no one blames you. We all know Parker’s a bastard who deserves to be locked up in a mental hospital, strapped to a bed for life.”
“It’s all Parker’s fault,” the person in front of them added softly. “We’ll pay him back someday.”
Aizel seemed to overhear their conversation and flashed a peace sign at Lu Heguang from behind.
Lu Heguang hadn’t expected them to react this way. He looked toward Chen Wang, who still hadn’t spoken from the podium. Chen Wang’s gaze swept over everyone’s faces before he finally said, “Good.”
Everyone exchanged glances. Was he being sarcastic?
“This is your next lesson,” Chen Wang said gravely. “You’ll handle this matter yourselves.”
“Huh?” Aizel was stunned, almost running up to the podium to pull Chen Wang back and ask what he meant. Chen Wang paused at the door, turned around, and asked, “Do you know why Parker acted?”
Lu Heguang and his companions reacted in unison, surprised that Chen Wang knew Parker was behind it.
“This is a tradition in the Combat Department,” Chen Wang said, breaking into an uncharacteristic smile. “Your guides told you not to talk back to your seniors, didn’t they?”
“Y-yes,” Aizel stammered.
“He only said we can’t talk back, not that we can’t take action?” Lu Heguang understood Chen Wang’s meaning and blurted it out. Everyone turned to look at him in unison. Without anyone noticing, Lu Heguang had become the focal point of the class, and they were all waiting for his next words. Lu Heguang raised his head and looked ahead, only to find that Chen Wang had already left.
He twitched the corner of his mouth as if about to say something, but then a mechanical ringtone sounded it was his wrist-mounted smart device.
Lu Heguang stood up awkwardly to answer the call. “Sorry, sorry, just a moment. Dad?”
Aizel, grimacing and holding his face, sat down. Wen Zhao stepped forward and mentioned that Lu Heguang’s mentor was a senior from the medical department who could help treat his injury. As soon as he finished speaking, Lu Heguang returned to the classroom. He coughed twice and calmly said, “My father will be coming to Wyatt later.”
“You told your parents?” Wen Zhao exclaimed in shock.
Lu Heguang nodded. “Yes, I told on him.”
Everyone: “…”
