Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 7
The combat department’s training was indeed as Wen Zhao had described unbearable for the average person. By the end of the day, Lu Heguang had followed his classmates in running to nearly every corner of Wyatt Academy, without ever slowing his pace.
“Endurance is the first step! Anyone without it can forget about becoming a soldier!”
Lu Heguang was panting heavily as he ran. Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at their instructor, Chen Wang, who was jogging alongside the formation. Rumor had it that Chen Wang had served in the military for twenty years, earning countless honors before retiring due to physical ailments.
Despite running with them for so long, Chen Wang’s expression remained stern and rigid, showing no signs of fatigue.
“Is he is he a robot?” Wen Zhao, panting unevenly behind Lu Heguang, tried to whisper to him. “How is he not tired at all?”
“Wen Zhao! Step out!” Chen Wang’s voice exploded in their ears. Wen Zhao immediately left the formation and stood by the roadside, thinking he could finally rest for a few seconds. But then Chen Wang ordered, “Push-ups. Keep going until the formation stops.”
Wen Zhao’s jaw dropped in disbelief, but after a sharp glare from Chen Wang, he obediently dropped into push-up position. If his counting grew too soft, he’d earn a couple of kicks.
Not wanting to do push-ups himself, Lu Heguang focused all his attention on running. But with several laps still to go, keeping his mind completely blank was a sure way to invite drowsiness.
He decided to distract himself with some thoughts. Just then, someone passed by him, and an unseen foot shot out. Lu Heguang, caught off guard, stumbled violently. Fortunately, he adjusted his posture in time, avoiding the humiliation of face-planting in front of everyone.
The commotion was minor, and Chen Wang didn’t notice. Lu Heguang didn’t dare look back, afraid of disrupting those behind him. As he entered the second-to-last lap, he heard a mocking sneer: “Still calling yourself Feiluo’er’s son? How shameless.”
Lu Heguang didn’t need to guess it was Parker again. Salorian and Parker were in the same grade but different departments. Salorian had his own classes to attend lately and couldn’t accompany Lu Heguang for the time being.
Before leaving home, Lu Heguang had promised Salorian he would take care of himself and not cause trouble for his mentor.
As he passed Parker, Lu Heguang shot him a glance. Sweat blurred his vision, but Parker paid no mind to his glare, instead making a provocative gesture he didn’t even respect Salorian, so why would he fear Salorian’s little follower?
Lu Heguang didn’t confront him on the spot. When Chen Wang finally called a halt, the students either leaned on each other for support or found a spot to rest alone. No one had the energy to speak a word, even though they were all Alphas.
“It just goes to show… Alphas are human too.” Wen Zhao was so exhausted he lay flat on the ground, refusing to move. Even after Chen Wang kicked him twice, he wouldn’t get up. Chen Wang finally reached down and pulled him to his feet. “Don’t lie flat or on your back it’s dangerous.”
Wen Zhao nodded, using his sweat-soaked shirt to wipe his face. Suddenly, he saw Lu Heguang walking toward him. “Wen Zhao, do you know any upperclassmen?”
“What’s wrong?” Wen Zhao was taken aback, then laughed. “Did you take a liking to some senior girl? Or maybe a senior guy?”
His words carried a hint of probing, which Lu Heguang noticed but didn’t pay much mind to, unsure what he was getting at. “Do you know that guy who caused trouble in the cafeteria the other day?”
“Parker Weil?” Wen Zhao straightened up. “What do you want with him?”
“He just tried to trip me.” Lu Heguang didn’t hide anything and recounted what had happened earlier. Wen Zhao asked curiously, “Where on earth did you come from?”
“What do you mean?” Lu Heguang recalled that Sallorian had asked him something similar. “Is there something wrong with me?”
“No, no, what I mean is,” Wen Zhao waved his hand, “you seem like you’ve never been tainted before. Usually, if someone gets targeted by Parker, they either give in to him or stay as far away as possible. Were you just thinking about paying him back?”
Lu Heguang nodded. “I can’t let myself be wronged.” He had been taught this way by Lu Ze since he was young never let yourself suffer, and if someone wrongs you, pay them back on the spot. Leave the rest for Lu Ze to handle.
As a child, he hadn’t been immune to bullying, but after Lu Ze taught him, one practical lesson made Lu Heguang someone no one dared to bully at school.
Standing up for yourself was one thing, but having a father who looked utterly untouchable behind you was another.
“Aren’t you supposed to be a good student?” Wen Zhao was stunned. “If I were you, I’d probably just avoid him.”
“You have to stay alive to be a good student.” It was break time, and Chen Wang didn’t pay attention to their whispering, merely observing from the side to see if anyone showed adverse physical reactions.
Wen Zhao agreed with his words, nodding. “You’re right. My brother is in Parker’s class. What are you thinking?”
“Do you think it’s better to make him never dare to mess with me again in one go, or to slowly make him realize I’m not to be bullied?” Lu Heguang was new to Wyatt and wanted some advice from Wen Zhao.
Wen Zhao was straightforward and immediately clapped his hands. “Of course, give him a big lesson he’ll never forget. When you become famous at Wyatt, don’t forget about me, buddy. Maybe I’ll rely on your reputation to find a cute little Omega.”
“Have you already had your rut?” Lu Heguang changed the topic upon hearing this. Wen Zhao had heard he had just recently presented and knew what he was asking. “Yeah, ruts aren’t really a big deal just a bit more prone to anxiety. After my first rut, I realized I wasn’t interested in girls anymore. Instead, I really wanted to hang around the medical department. The Omegas there are so gentle and pretty, hehe.”
Lu Heguang nodded thoughtfully. “I still don’t know what I like. By the way, when does our training period end?”
“Two more days, I think. Then we’ll have a two-day break. I heard those two days are when the seniors return to campus, so we can’t stick around and cause trouble.” After chatting for a bit, Wen Zhao had regained some energy and propped himself up on his hands. “Do you have any plans? Count me in.”
“I can’t handle it alone.” Lu Heguang chuckled. “I need to talk to my parents about this.”
“Huh?” Wen Zhao widened his eyes. “You’re this old and still need to involve your parents?”
“If someone can help me, why refuse their assistance?” Lu Heguang stretched lazily and let out a long sigh. “Besides, they’re my dad and father, why shouldn’t I turn to them?”
“You seem like you were raised in a honey jar.” Wen Zhao pointed at him teasingly. “It’s a bit dazzling my eyes are about to go blind.”
A honey jar?
Lu Heguang thought about it. Wen Zhao wasn’t exactly wrong. Lu Ze was dedicated to giving him the best, and now Feiluo’er had brought them back home. Things would only get better from here.
He wondered if Parker would still act tough when Feiluo’er showed up.
But Wen Zhao would probably be terrified by then, right? Should he give him a heads-up in advance? He had a pretty good impression of Wen Zhao aside from being a bit noisy at times, he was a decent guy.
Lu Heguang cleared his throat and said to Wen Zhao, “Actually, I really am Feiluo’er’s son.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” Wen Zhao nodded dismissively. “And I’m a non-human. Save that kind of talk for yourself don’t try to fool your bro, okay?”
Lu Heguang: “…”
Of course he didn’t believe it.
“Why are you back so late?” Salorian opened the door to find Lu Heguang drenched from head to toe, standing at the entrance like a soaked dog. “What happened to you?”
“Chen Wang insisted on giving us a shower.” Lu Heguang swallowed. “He sprayed us with a high-pressure water gun.”
Salorian couldn’t help but laugh. “I forgot about that. Come in quickly, I’ve already drawn a bath for you. Go wash up.”
“Thanks, senior.” Lu Heguang said gratefully, carefully sidestepping Salorian to avoid dripping water on him. “Maybe you should close the curtain first. I might not be wearing clothes when I come out.”
“What are you afraid of? I’m not going to eat you.” Salorian patted his sturdy back, only to wince at the impact. “Have you grown these past few days? You seem even taller than when I first met you.”
“Not sure.” Lu Heguang reached up and pulled off his soaked training uniform, then removed his shoes and socks, placing them in the laundry basket by the bathroom door. The housekeeping robot would collect them later, wash and dry them, and return them.
Salorian pulled out a measuring tape from somewhere and beckoned him. “Stand still let me measure you.”
“Senior, you…” Lu Heguang couldn’t help but laugh, watching him stretch out the tape to measure him. “Where did you get that from?”
“From the Mechanical Engineering department. Someone got injured and came over to serve as an example.” Salorian aligned the tape at his feet, making sure he stood properly, then pulled it up to the top of his head with a swift motion. His stretched-out posture was fully displayed before Lu Heguang, and as he raised his arms, the hem of his neatly tucked shirt was pulled up, revealing a glimpse of his pale waist.
A flash of white suddenly crossed Lu Heguang’s mind, and he felt all the blood in his body rush to that exposed strip of skin. He knew it was disrespectful to stare, so he quickly averted his gaze. Just then, Salorian finished measuring and retracted his hand. Lu Heguang could only watch helplessly as the shirt fell back into place, covering everything.
What a shame.
“Six foot three,” Salorian said, a bit surprised. “What was your height before?”
“Just under six foot one,” Lu Heguang scratched his head. “I grew pretty fast after differentiation didn’t expect it to happen this quickly.”
It had only been a few days, and he’d already crossed the six-foot-three mark.
“That’s good, it means you’re developing normally.” Salorian noticed him staring and thought he was lost in thought, nudging his calf with a toe. “Go take a shower.”
Lu Heguang responded with a sound and practically fled into the bathroom, closing the door with a click. Salorian didn’t think much of it, assuming he couldn’t stand the sticky feeling on his skin. Little did he know, inside the bathroom, Lu Heguang was staring wide-eyed at another part of himself that was very much awake.
This feeling wasn’t unfamiliar. Lu Heguang was no saint he’d learned from Lu Ze’s physiology lessons that this was a normal reaction. But the thought of having such a response while facing Salorian, who cared for him, filled him with overwhelming shame.
The young Alpha hesitated for a long time, deciding to ignore it. Yet, as soon as he finished his shower and stepped out, he saw Salorian changing clothes with his back turned, the expanse of bare skin nearly blinding Lu Heguang.
Lu Heguang: “…” This is going to be the death of me.
