Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 6
“Lu Heguang, do you want to shower first, or should I?”
Lu Heguang snapped out of his thoughts at Wen Zhao’s words, only to realize that the two of them had somehow already returned to the dormitory. He was sitting on the stool by his bed, the mattress behind him still bare without any bedding. Opposite him was Salorian’s bed, neatly made with a simple gray four-piece set.
At that moment, Salorian stood before him, holding a change of clothes. “What were you thinking about so intently?”
“N-nothing,” Lu Heguang shook his head, trying to push Wen Zhao’s words out of his mind. “Senior, are you going to shower?”
“It’s so hot today, of course I need a shower,” Salorian replied. “If you’re not going to shower, I’ll go ahead.”
Lu Heguang shook his head. “You go ahead, Senior. I’m not that hot yet.”
“Can you manage to check in by yourself?” Salorian pointed to a file folder beside Lu Heguang’s leg. “Inside are your specialized smart device for Wyatt Academy and all your documents. Take these with you later to find your classroom. I won’t be going with you.”
“No problem,” Lu Heguang picked up the file folder, seemingly ready to leave right away. Salorian stopped him. “There are cold drinks on the table that I bought for you on the way. Since you don’t seem to like nutrient drinks, I bought two bottles. Save one for me.”
Lu Heguang nodded. On Salorian’s desk were two cold drinks. He chose the blueberry-flavored one. Just as he was about to leave, Salorian closed the bathroom door. After a moment’s thought, Lu Heguang walked over and knocked. The sound of running water inside stopped, and through the thin mist, Salorian opened the door, peeking out. “What’s wrong?”
“Senior, I don’t know the way,” Lu Heguang blinked, his gaze drifting from Salorian’s damp hair down to his exposed shoulder. He paused for a moment but quickly masked his reaction, and Salorian didn’t notice.
“Right, you just came from the countryside, so you probably don’t know how to use the smart device yet?” Compared to the high fees for smart devices, ordinary families still relied more on regular phones. It was understandable that Lu Heguang didn’t know how to use the smart device’s map function. Salorian closed the door and came out a moment later, a towel wrapped around his waist. Lu Heguang discreetly averted his gaze to avoid making the Omega uncomfortable.
Salorian took his wrist and activated his smart device, pulling up the map and carefully marking the location of the corresponding teaching building. However, after finishing, he turned off the device again. Under Lu Heguang’s puzzled gaze, he said, “Wait for me. I’ll go with you after I finish showering. I don’t have much to do during your training period anyway.”
“Thank you, Senior,” Lu Heguang agreed immediately. “I’ll wait for you.”
Salorian closed the door again, and this time, the sound of running water in the bathroom continued uninterrupted.
While waiting for Salorian to finish showering, Lu Heguang passed by Salorian’s desk. As he approached, he caught a whiff of a floral scent the same fragrance he had smelled when he first met Salorian. Was this Salorian’s pheromone scent?
He sniffed the air, suddenly feeling that his action was intrusive, and quickly returned to his own desk. Yet, in his mind, he swiftly matched Salorian’s pheromone scent to a flower mentioned in textbooks yarrow.
Yarrow flower differs from the common yarrow herb while the latter is pungent and sharp, yarrow flower is a translucent bloom that grows on high mountains. Few have seen this flower apart from some extreme sports enthusiasts, and it is said to be quite fragrant, like the first gust of wind in winter carrying the crisp scent of trees.
Lu Heguang lowered his head to sniff himself, surprised to find no scent on his body. Just then, Salorian walked out in a bathrobe and, seeing him sniffing his own arm, chuckled, “What are you smelling?”
“Why don’t I have a scent of pheromones yet?” Lu Heguang asked. “My dad and Ferol, their pheromones are very noticeable.”
“You’ve just differentiated, what’s the rush?” Salorian walked over and sat down casually opposite him, legs spread wide. Lu Heguang glanced at the calves, flushed pink from the steam, then looked up at Salorian without letting his gaze linger. “How long until I know?”
“Wait until your first rut,” Salorian replied, drying his hair with a towel. But feeling weak from the heat, he simply tossed the towel onto Lu Heguang’s lap.
Lu Heguang understood immediately. Picking up the towel, now saturated with Salorian’s pheromones, he stood up and moved behind him, carefully and gently drying his hair. Unlike most Omegas who preferred long or medium-length hair, Salorian, like Lu Heguang, kept his hair short and layered, making it easy to dry.
Originally, Salorian had only wanted to avoid the hassle of drying his hair and had intended to ask Lu Heguang to hang up the towel. But as he felt the other approach from behind, his body stiffened slightly. Lu Heguang, focused on his task, didn’t notice this momentary change.
Silence settled between them one waiting quietly with bowed head, the other meticulously running his fingers through Salorian’s hair. After what felt like a long time, Lu Heguang said softly, “It should dry quickly once we step outside.”
“Thanks,” Salorian sighed in relief, taking the towel to hang it up himself. He quickly changed clothes, only remembering afterward that the dorm now housed not just him but also a newly differentiated Alpha. Turning around, he saw Lu Heguang had already turned away, facing the dorm’s only window. Only when the rustling of clothes stopped did Lu Heguang ask, “Are you dressed, Senior?”
“Ahem,” Salorian cleared his throat, trying to sound nonchalant. “We’re both guys, no need to be so cautious. I just forgot you were here. Seems I’m not used to having you in the dorm yet.”
“It’s fine, I’m not used to it either,” Lu Heguang turned back to face Salorian, now fully dressed. “Shall we go?”
“Let’s go.” Lu Heguang’s attitude put Salorian at ease. If Lu Heguang had suddenly become overly familiar, Salorian would likely have applied for a dorm change that very night.
He glanced at Lu Heguang, obediently following beside him, and thought that perhaps he was a different kind of Alpha. But that had nothing to do with him his job was simply to be a guide.
After all, he liked girls.
“By the way, Senior,” Lu Heguang suddenly slowed his pace and asked, “I have a question. How long does the relationship between a guide and the guided last?”
“It depends on the one being guided.” Salorian was taken aback for a moment. “That’s my oversight I forgot to explain this to you.”
He stopped walking and spoke softly in the corridor as dusk approached. “Whenever you feel you no longer need my help, just let me know.”
“And then?”
“Then I’ll take you to fill out a consent form, and our relationship will be dissolved.” Salorian spread his hands. “But we can still be friends. If you ever need anything, you can still come to me for help.”
“No matter what it is, will you help me, senior?”
“Depends on the timing.” Salorian raised two fingers and waved them in front of him. “While I’m your guide, I’ll help you with everything. Without that relationship, I’ll have to think about whether to help or not.”
Lu Heguang nodded, and the two resumed walking toward their destination. After a moment of thought, Salorian added, “Don’t pretend to be overly dependent on me I can tell.”
“Of course not. Why would I do such a thing?” Lu Heguang smiled, thinking to himself, I’ll make sure you can’t tell.
The Combat Department’s building was located in the center of Wyatt Academy. After escorting Lu Heguang into the classroom, Salorian waited by the door, joined by a few other guides who had accompanied their own charges.
Salorian glanced around but didn’t recognize anyone, so he paid them no mind. Unbeknownst to him, inside the classroom, Lu Heguang was resting his chin on his hand, staring intently at his back.
“Hey, what a coincidence.” A familiar voice sounded beside him, followed by a lively figure plopping down next to Lu Heguang. The latter looked up to meet Wen Zhao’s flower-like smiling face. “We really ended up in the same class, and even as desk mates. By the way, I saw your guide earlier. I thought you’d come to register on your own.”
“I have no sense of direction.” Lu Heguang smiled, making room for him to sit down. Just then, a few Alphas in training uniforms walked in. Lu Heguang blinked. “Who are they?”
“Our teachers.” Wen Zhao mimicked his posture, resting his chin on his hand. “The Combat Department is directly trained by retired soldiers. That’s the only difference between us and other departments. By the way, how’s your stamina?”
“Why do you ask?” Lu Heguang had a vague suspicion, recalling the two drinks Salorian had prepared for him before leaving. He waited uneasily for Wen Zhao’s answer.
Before Wen Zhao could speak, the “teacher” at the front said sternly, “Line up and head downstairs. Start with ten laps around the training field.”
Lu Heguang: “…”
As Wen Zhao slung an arm around his shoulder and led him out of the classroom, Lu Heguang saw Salorian standing to the side with the other guides, waving the drinks in his hand I’ll save these for you when you get back.
Lu Heguang felt like crying. Little did anyone know that this model student absolutely despised running.
After finishing the ten laps, Lu Heguang wasn’t as exhausted as he’d imagined. Apart from being slightly out of breath, he could still stand steadily at the finish line. Wen Zhao, on the other hand, was so tired he leaned on Lu Heguang’s shoulder, refusing to move. “I’m exhausted.”
“Get up, it’s boiling.” Lu Heguang pushed him away. The teachers were fairly satisfied with their results, simply saying that formal training would start tomorrow and today was just a warm-up before dismissing them to head back to their respective places.
“Are you going back to the dorm? Come to think of it, I didn’t see you in the combat department’s dorm.” Wen Zhao had just finished speaking when he noticed Salorian walking toward them from a distance. He paused, “Wait, you’re not planning to live with your guide, are you?”
“Is that not allowed?” Lu Heguang replied calmly.
Wen Zhao hesitated, “It’s allowed, but most people care about their personal space, right? Besides, one of you is an Alpha, the other an Omega is it really okay to live together?”
“Senior isn’t interested in Alphas,” Lu Heguang said. Wen Zhao pointed at him, “What about you? You must like Omegas, right?”
Lu Heguang shook his head, his gaze clear, “I don’t know. I just went through differentiation I don’t even know if I like men or women yet. How would I know what I like?”
Wen Zhao: “…”
“Here.” Salorian not only brought a drink for Lu Heguang but also one for Wen Zhao. Wen Zhao was surprised and thanked him twice as he took it.
“Let’s go back, Senior.” Lu Heguang stood between Salorian and Wen Zhao. “I want to take a shower.”
“Let’s go, let’s go.” Without another word, Salorian led him back. Watching their retreating figures, a thought suddenly struck Wen Zhao.
Could it be that Lu Heguang likes Salorian?
