Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 5
Perhaps because Lu Heguang’s expression was so earnest, both the onlookers and the bulliesParker and his group, who were disheveledly adjusting their clothes were momentarily stunned by his words.
Lu Heguang was telling the truth. However, Ferroel had not released any public news. In the eyes of the citizens, Ferroel remained a mysterious and powerful leader with a nonexistent love life. How could he possibly have a son this old?
One of the lackeys by Parker’s side was the first to snap out of it, patting his boss’s arm. “The Marshal is not married and is not dating. How could he have a son? This kid is bluffing us.”
Seeing this, Salorian pulled Lu Heguang behind him, intending to yield the table. Parker’s group was targeting him, and he could not let Lu Heguang, who had only been enrolled for a single day, get into trouble because of him. To his surprise, the seemingly over-righteous Lu Heguang saw right through his intent and slammed a hand onto the table. “We got to this table first. If you want to use it, you have to wait until we finish eating.”
Parker was so angry he opened his mouth to teach this unfamiliar brat a lesson. Who at Wyatt did not know he was the local tyrant? Lu Heguang actually dared to speak to him like that.
Not far away, some faculty members noticed the commotion. Seeing a teacher approaching, Parker felt a surge of cowardice but was unwilling to lose face in front of the new students. Standing by the table felt wrong, yet leaving felt like a defeat. At that moment, Lu Heguang turned and stepped out of the crowd. Seeing the puzzled teachers wanting to ask what had happened, he bowed politely and greeted them.
The teachers looked at each other and watched as Lu Heguang picked up the food and drinks he had previously left on a stranger’s table. He then said to the senior who had guarded the food for him, “Thank you.”
“No, no problem.”
Parker watched as Lu Heguang returned with the tray and pulled Salorian back down to the table. He handed a drink to Salorian. “Drink up, Senior.”
After saying that, he ignored the people around him and continued eating heartily yet elegantly.
Parker gritted his teeth and glared at him. But before Lu Heguang could respond to the threat, the teachers arrived. “Parker, why are you not taking your trainees to get familiar with the academy? What are you doing here?”
“The senior is waiting for us to finish so he has a place to sit,” Lu Heguang explained for Parker as he swallowed a mouthful of food. “We are almost done.”
Watching him eat so vigorously, it looked to the teachers like Parker was bullying a freshman. Normally, such matters should be handled by Lu Heguang’s guide, but when the teachers saw that his guide was Salorian, an Omega, they decided to handle it personally. “Parker, are there not plenty of other tables here?”
Parker had no choice but to lead his group to an empty table, not forgetting to intimidate Lu Heguang with a glare. However, Lu Heguang simply kept his back to them and focused on his meal, as if eating was the only thing that mattered in his life at that moment.
“Salorian, let us know if you need anything,” the teacher who spoke earlier said, patting Salorian on the shoulder. “If this guiding job brings you trouble, I will report it to the higher ups and temporarily stop assigning trainees to you.”
Salorian had been dazed by Lu Heguang’s series of actions. By the time he snapped out of it, he heard this offer and waved his hand. “I can handle it.”
“Are you sure?” The teacher glanced at Lu Heguang, who had finally finished every scrap of food on his plate. He very sensibly gave the teachers a bright smile. The teachers had nothing left to say and soon departed.
“Lu Heguang, you, where did you learn all that?” Once the teachers were gone, Parker was in no rush to continue bullying Salorian after what had happened. Salorian took a couple of sips of the drink Lu Heguang had bought him and whispered, “It does not look like this was your first time doing something like that.”
Lu Heguang’s eyes flickered, and he leaned in to whisper into Salorian’s ear with a smile. “In high school, I used to be bullied often too. My dad taught me this: as long as you act like you are not afraid, the other person will be the one who gets scared.”
“And that part about being Ferroel’s son.”
“Am I not?” Lu Heguang tilted his head, smiling to reveal a small canine tooth. “I did not lie; they just do not believe it. But the next time they see me, they will definitely hesitate.”
Salorian listened, stunned. “Where on earth did you come from?”
“Next time I will take you to the place where I grew up, and then you will know.” The words Lu Heguang told Salorian were a mix of truth and lies. Lu Ze really did teach him those things: that he should not bully others, but he should not let himself be bullied for nothing either. When it was time to fight back, he had to react bravely.
In reality, he had never been bullied growing up.
This was the first time he had used the method Lu Ze taught him. Even after all this time, the good student Lu Heguang was able to put it into practice the moment he thought of it.
The training period officially began in the afternoon. Lu Heguang originally thought Salorian would leave him to his own devices at this stage, but he was surprised to find that after he received the course schedule, the Omega still followed him closely.
“Senior, those people probably will not come looking for me again.” Lu Heguang thought Salorian was worried he would run into Parker’s group and get bullied again. Instead, Salorian said, “I have to stay with you until the end of the lecture to help guide your choice of department.”
Lu Heguang looked at the other freshmen around them. Aside from the two of them, not many had guides following them. Hearing Salorian say this, Lu Heguang nodded obediently. “Okay, stay with me, Senior.”
“Do not get any ideas; I treat you like a brother,” Salorian suddenly added. Lu Heguang knew what he meant and smiled. “I have always wanted an older brother like you, Senior.”
A few words left Salorian beaming with pride. The two walked side by side into the classroom listed on the notice. Upon entering, they saw Parker sitting in the front row. Salorian frowned imperceptibly. Lu Heguang did not miss the change in his expression and saw Parker from his line of sight as well.
“I am a freshman, so I probably will not be in the same class as him, right?” Lu Heguang sat in the back row with Salorian. Looking at the back of Parker’s head, he spoke softly.
“You will not be in the same class, but if you are in the same department, you will see each other every day.” Salorian took a deep breath, took the notice from Lu Heguang’s hand, and flipped it over. The back contained a brief introduction to the different departments and their characteristics.
Generally speaking, the Combat Department was essentially tied to the Medical Department. Furthermore, departments like Logistics or Maintenance existed to form teams with the Combat Department students who successfully graduated. One could say that in Wyatt Mecha Academy, Combat Department students were at the top of the hierarchy.
“Do you have any thoughts? Where do you want to go?” Salorian whispered. “Maybe the Maintenance Department would suit you. There are many mechas there. You have not seen a mecha yet, have you? They are all quite cool. It is a pity I will never have the chance to pilot one.”
“Which department are you in, Senior?”
“Why? You want to be in the same department as me?” Salorian tucked away the documents and looked toward the podium with Lu Heguang as the teacher observed the crowd. “I am afraid you have no chance. I am in the Medical Department, which only recruits non Alphas.”
“Why?”
“Maybe on the Imperial Star, any Alpha is deemed worthy of a better job.” Salorian lowered his head. “But Alphas have much more exhausting training and classes than we do. I do not want to be an Alpha.”
Lu Heguang nodded, listening thoughtfully as the teacher introduced Wyatt Academy. Time ticked by, and Salorian fell asleep halfway through. Lu Heguang was thinking of waking him before they left, but to his surprise, Salorian woke up precisely when the teacher was distributing the department preference forms. “Is it time to fill out the forms?”
“Senior, you are amazing,” Lu Heguang said from the bottom of his heart.
Salorian wiped his face; there were slight marks on his cheek from leaning against the chair. “Have you decided where you want to go?”
“Hey, you are going to the Combat Department too?” Before Lu Heguang could speak, the person in the front seat suddenly turned around. Seeing Lu Heguang’s form on the table, he said in surprise, “You remember me, right? In the cafeteria earlier, you slammed your tray right in front of me.”
Lu Heguang covered his form with his hand and moved it toward Salorian, speaking distantly to the man. “Thank you.”
“I am going to the Combat Department too. Maybe we will be classmates.” The man seemed even more familiar than Salorian, waving at them both. “Let us get to know each other. I am Wen Zhao.”
“Salorian, Medical Department.” Salorian smiled and introduced himself. Wen Zhao enthusiastically shook hands with him under the table. From the corner of his eye, Lu Heguang saw Salorian wipe his hand on his clothes after pulling back.
Salorian had not done that when touching Lu Heguang. This realization made Lu Heguang feel much better, and he shook Wen Zhao’s hand generously. “I am Lu Heguang.”
“Was what you said in the cafeteria true?” Wen Zhao asked curiously. “That line where you said you were Marshal Ferroel’s son?”
“It was fake. I just said it to scare those people.” Lu Heguang handed his preference form to Salorian. The latter looked down and saw that the fellow had indeed filled out an application for the Combat Department.
“Are you not going to discuss it with your dad? If you graduate from the Combat Department, you really have to go to the battlefield,” Salorian reminded him. Lu Heguang remembered Ferroel saying he wanted to send him to Wyatt; presumably, that was Ferroel’s intention all along.
Lu Heguang whispered, “There is no need. They will support me.”
Salorian had no choice but to respect his choice. Seeing that Wen Zhao seemed to have more to say to Lu Heguang and thinking the two peers might have more in common, he stood up to submit the form for him. “You guys keep chatting. I will be right back.”
Once he was gone, Wen Zhao turned all the way around and whispered, “I heard people mention your guide before I enrolled.”
“What?” Lu Heguang did not catch his words. Wen Zhao leaned in. “I heard he is an Omega who rejects all Alphas. Almost no one is willing to be friends with him. Will it not be very hard for you to be with him?”
“Hard?” Lu Heguang frowned. “Why would it be hard? He is a very good person.”
“I heard, just heard, mind you,” Wen Zhao said in an even lower voice. “I heard that when he first enrolled years ago, an Alpha took an interest in him. Not long after, that Alpha died.”
“What does that have to do with Salorian?”
“Someone saw Salorian buy a dagger once. That Alpha was killed by the exact same model of dagger.”
