Does the Alpha Have to Be a Succubus too? - Chapter 10
After Feiluo’er’s visit, although Parker would still glare at him a few times during meals, he no longer dared to cause any trouble.
“So, you really are Feiluo’er’s son?”
Aize’er, Wen Zhao, and the others sat together with Lu Heguang. Because of what had happened that day, their entire class sat close together, making them the most noticeable group in the cafeteria.
“I said it from the very beginning, but you didn’t believe me,” Lu Heguang said innocently as he cut his steak into small pieces with a knife thanks to Lu Ze’s habit of taking him to various classes on a whim, Lu Heguang was quite adept at handling even the strictest table manners.
“We’ll believe whatever you say from now on,” Wen Zhao rubbed his face, his teeth aching. “Why didn’t I believe you?”
“It’s normal. In Huaiyate, the most impressive family background is that of a marquis’s son. Who would have thought the marshal would have a son studying at Huaiyate?” Aize’er had barely finished speaking when he noticed the subtle expressions on the faces of Lu Heguang and Wen Zhao, who were sitting opposite him and facing the door. Turning around, he saw Chen Wang approaching with a tray of food and sitting down beside him.
Aize’er: “…”
“Have you been to the infirmary?” Chen Wang glanced at the injuries on Aize’er’s face. The latter nodded stiffly, “Lu Heguang’s guide helped treat my wounds.”
“Saluoli’an?”
“The senior happened to be with me at the time and helped out,” Lu Heguang explained. Everyone lowered their heads to eat, clearly feeling uncomfortable dining with a teacher. However, Chen Wang didn’t seem to be leaving anytime soon and instead brought up another topic: “After these past two days, what do you think of the combat department?”
Everyone exchanged glances. Wen Zhao, being straightforward, spoke first: “It’s pretty good. The training isn’t too intense, and we can handle it.”
“You all know about the survival battle after the holiday ends, right?”
Everyone nodded. This was something they had been looking forward to the most since enrolling. Boys always shared a common interest in such things going to the battlefield, winning battles, and no one wanted to be the last one standing.
“This year is a bit special. Some teachers have resigned and returned to their units, so this year’s survival battle will be merged with the training battle for the upperclassmen,” Chen Wang finally got to the point. “When the time comes, be careful. Even if you’re eliminated, prioritize your safety. Before stepping onto a real battlefield, you are all just students.”
“Are you worried that we’ll be bullied by the upperclassmen?” Lu Heguang asked.
Chen Wang didn’t answer directly but changed the subject: “The marshal hasn’t decided on the time to announce your existence to the public yet. Until then, you’re just an ordinary person. Be careful.”
Lu Heguang nodded. Feiluo’er must have his reasons for doing this. “I’ll be careful.”
“By the way, when I say upperclassmen, I mean all departments,” Chen Wang ate quickly, and even while talking, it didn’t affect his pace. By the time he stood up, everyone realized he had already finished his meal.
Watching Chen Wang leave, Wen Zhao suddenly raised a finger. “Wait, was Old Chen trying to tell us something?”
“This year’s survival battle includes not just our two freshman classes but also all the upperclassmen from the entire school. a massive free-for-all?”
“We can form alliances, right?” Lu Heguang cut to the chase. “We’re supposed to function as a cohesive unit anyway, so there’s nothing wrong with building some rapport in advance.”
Wen Zhao clapped his hands. “Exactly, exactly! That’s what I meant. Why don’t I have a brain as sharp as yours?”
“Alliances?” A voice dropped beside the group. Lu Heguang looked up in pleasant surprise to see Salorian standing by the table, a half-eaten packet of nutrient paste in his mouth, scanning them. “What alliances?”
“Senior, will you be participating in the survival challenge?” Wen Zhao asked before Lu Heguang could speak.
Salorian was slightly puzzled by the hopeful looks in their eyes and frowned slightly. “Of course I’ll participate. It’s my entrance exam.”
“Let’s team up, then?” Wen Zhao pointed at Lu Heguang. “Your assigned mentee is right here. Why don’t we form an alliance and act together?”
Salorian set down the nutrient paste and used the bottom of the packet to push Wen Zhao back into his seat. “I’ll only form an alliance with my mentee.”
Hearing this, Lu Heguang felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. He couldn’t name the emotion, but he hoped to experience it more often in the future this was Salorian’s favoritism toward him. Even if it was still confined to the “mentorship” boundary, Lu Heguang was determined to pull Salorian across that line.
But based on his understanding of Salorian, this Omega senior could sometimes be overly straightforward. Lu Heguang wasn’t entirely sure what Salorian truly meant by those words.
It wasn’t until that evening that he learned the answer from Salorian himself.
“I hate Alphas,” Salorian said, fresh out of the shower and smelling of body wash. He tossed his laundry to the cleaning robot at the door, and Lu Heguang saw him drop two coins into the slot on the little robot’s head it seemed the robot could treat itself to a fresh bottle of energy fluid.
“I’m an Alpha too,” Lu Heguang said, holding his towel and leaning against the desk as he watched Salorian walk back slowly. He emphasized, “But you don’t hate me.”
“You’re still a wet-behind-the-ears kid. What kind of Alpha is a freshly differentiated one?” Salorian chuckled, stepping forward to ruffle Lu Heguang’s hair. “No wonder Uncle Fior touched your hair it’s pretty soft.”
“Senior, do you look down on me?” Lu Heguang pursed his lips and whispered, “Even if I just differentiated, I’m still an Alpha.”
“Oh, feeling wronged now?” Salorian leaned in to look at his face and laughed. “Alright, alright, my bad. I shouldn’t have said that. I apologize, junior.”
Lu Heguang seized the opportunity. “So, senior, were you serious earlier about forming an alliance with me?”
“Of course I was serious,” Salorian said, turning to climb onto his bed without looking back. “You’ve been at Wyatt for two days now. Hasn’t anyone told you what kind of person I am? Besides you, I doubt anyone would team up with me.”
“I haven’t heard anything,” Lu Heguang said. As soon as the words left his mouth, Salorian’s foot slipped on the ladder. Lu Heguang hurried forward to steady him. “Senior, are you okay?”
“I’m fine… I’m fine.” Salorian was still shaken. Lu Heguang helped him straighten up and said apologetically, “It’s my fault. I distracted you by talking.”
“Take your hand away.” Salorian snapped back to reality and realized Lu Heguang’s hand was still resting on his waist. He had intended to swat it away, but for some reason, it came out as a sharp, reprimanding reminder.
Lu Heguang silently withdrew his hand, making sure Salorian was steady before letting go. Salorian turned his back to him and climbed into bed, then finally faced him. “Let’s talk about the alliance after the break.”
“So you’ll come to my house as a guest?”
“I have to listen to what your father says,” Salorian said with a headache. “It’s all because my brother works under Uncle Feiluoer…”
“You don’t like socializing?” Lu Heguang sat at his own desk, looking up just in time to see Salorian’s face.
“Wouldn’t most people suspect I don’t like your family when they hear that?” Salorian chuckled. “You’re quite good at giving me an out.”
“I don’t know Feiluoer well yet, but he’s trying to be a good father. The Imperial Star hasn’t seen large-scale wars in many years, and he’s a good leader too,” Lu Heguang said softly. “So Feiluoer probably isn’t someone people would dislike, right?”
“…I really don’t like socializing,” Salorian raised a finger. “Of course, little Omegas are an exception.”
“Do you really plan to find an Omega?” Lu Heguang couldn’t help asking. “Honestly, the chances… are quite slim.”
“Worst case, I won’t find one. I’m definitely not getting together with an Alpha,” Salorian said, one hand on his knee, the other pulling a blister pack of pills from under his pillow. He popped one out and tossed it into his mouth. “I’d rather stay single my whole life than date those bastards—no offense.”
“I know, I’m special to you.”
Lu Heguang’s words made Salorian glance at him again. He waved his hand, urging him to go take a shower, and said nothing more.
As Lu Heguang got up and headed into the bathroom, Salorian looked down at the nearly empty blister pack in his hand. “…Almost out.”
…
The training period ended quickly. Over the past few days, Lu Heguang had made many friends, though some had chosen to drop out of the combat department and join other faculties.
“I heard people get hurt in survival battles…”
They gave their reasons to their friends as they left. No one blamed them—their futures were in their own hands, and any choice they made was valid.
In the end, twenty-seven remained.
“More people dropped out in the class next door,” Wen Zhao said, a small satchel slung over his shoulder. He hadn’t brought much with him and was now walking with Lu Heguang toward the Wyatt Academy gate.
Without knowing Wyatt’s background, these students seemed like ordinary ones. No one would guess that in two days, they’d be entering the rainforest with weapons, cooperating or fighting each other.
“I heard from my senior—that class’s teacher has a weird temper. Those who stayed can handle him,” Lu Heguang said, spotting Lu Ze in the distance. He and Wen Zhao weren’t heading the same way. “I’ll go ahead. See you in two days.”
“Xiao Guang!” Lu Ze smiled and came forward to give Lu Heguang a hug. “Haven’t seen you in three days. Have you grown taller? Being an Alpha is great.”
“My roommate measured my height for me, and I’ve grown a lot taller than before.” Lu Heguang was held by Lu Ze’s arm around his shoulder. The familiar scent of his father seemed mixed with a somewhat unfamiliar fragrance. Lu Heguang glanced at Feiluo’er, who was standing by the car waiting for the father and son, with Mitchell beside him. It didn’t take a guess to know where the unfamiliar scent came from. “How have you been lately, Dad?”
“I’m doing great, well-fed.” Lu Ze winked at him. As fellow succubi, Lu Heguang knew that “well-fed” meant Feiluo’er hadn’t cut off supplying him with essence. As for how it was supplied, Heguang decided not to dwell on it further.
Lu Ze whispered, “Are you dating someone? You smell so fragrant.”
“That’s probably my roommate’s pheromones…” Before Heguang could finish, Mitchell’s expression suddenly changed. “Young master, did you see where Salorian went before you left?”
Heguang was taken aback. “He said he was going on a date… Did something happen to him?”
“His neural link signal has been disconnected.” Mitchell rushed past him toward the academy. Without hesitation, Heguang followed. “Dad, wait for me!”
Lu Ze glanced at Feiluo’er, who calmly followed as well, not forgetting to say to him, “Coming?”
“Coming.”
