Chapter 6: After the Banquet, the Guests All Dispersed…
After the banquet, the guests all dispersed.
The night was deep. Fu Han leaned against the huge marble pillar of the banquet hall, arms crossed, one leg bent. A low wind blew in, carrying a stifling heat.
The breeze lifted the tips of his hair. He looked like an Epiphyllum standing in the darkness, those scattered strands falling onto his forehead. His eyes were slightly red from the alcohol.
Seemingly aware of someone’s presence, his gaze shifted to Ji Qingyu. After lingering for a few seconds, he abruptly pulled Ji Qingyu closer without warning.
A famous performer hired downstairs was singing a lingering, melancholic tune. Fireworks blossomed brilliantly in the night sky, and the neon lights were beautiful.
Ji Qingyu thought that if two people who genuinely loved each other were getting married here, their hearts should be full of happiness right now. Unfortunately, there was only estrangement and pretense between him and Fu Han.
It was a pity for such elaborate decorations.
Fu Han lowered his head to look at him. His fingertips, carrying a coolness, stroked Ji Qingyu’s forehead, eyelids, then his lips, and finally rested on the back of his neck.
Ji Qingyu felt heated by his touch. The qipao he wore was thin, and he could feel the warmth of Fu Han’s fingertips through the fabric. Ji Qingyu leaned back, trying to escape, but Fu Han’s hand was braced behind him, making it impossible to escape.
This is too close, Ji Qingyu thought dazedly.
This person knew exactly how to provoke. He always seemed completely at ease, while Ji Qingyu was always nervous, flustered, and constantly thrown into turmoil by his teasing.
Most of the guests had left, but a few sparse figures were still exchanging pleasantries at the entrance. Fortunately, their location was secluded, and no one was paying attention.
“Did the surgery go smoothly?” Fu Han’s voice was slightly hoarse, the question coming out abruptly.
“Smoothly.” Ji Qingyu paused, surprised that Fu Han would bring it up. He wasn’t in much pain anymore and could even perceive other Alphas’ pheromones.
Fu Han’s eyes held an indefinable hint of regret. He lowered his head, folded down the qipao, revealing Ji Qingyu’s slender neck and the white gauze covering the gland. There was no bloodstain. He peeled back a corner to look.
“You really are lucky,” Fu Han said cryptically. His hand gently rubbed the red area around the wound. The not-yet-healed gland was particularly sensitive.
Ji Qingyu felt the back of his neck flush hot, and his whole body felt like it was on fire. Fu Han’s hand gripping his lower back tightened further. Ji Qingyu struggled and resisted, “…You can find someone else to take care of your needs first.”
The hand froze. Then, a sarcastic laugh came from above Ji Qingyu’s head. The next second, he was violently slammed against Fu Han. His entire upper body was forced against him, the force making him gasp for breath.
If there hadn’t still been people in the banquet hall, he would have thought Fu Han intended to strangle him, thus avoiding having to keep such an unsophisticated Omega by his side.
“Why would I mark anyone else?” Fu Han’s words suddenly became sharp, even somewhat irritated, “I am not you.”
“Removing a mark isn’t difficult, but a person’s gland is fragile. Once it’s done, it’s very hard to perform a second mark removal.” Fu Han’s hand gripped Ji Qingyu’s waist tightly, and he whispered coldly, almost threateningly, “Unless you want to die.”
Ji Qingyu hissed in pain, not understanding Fu Han’s words. He wouldn’t even have a second mark, so where would a second removal come from?
He felt resistant toward Fu Han. He used both hands to push him away, but even with all his strength, he couldn’t move him. So, he could only struggle to pat Fu Han’s chest, reminding him to wear his muzzle properly. The scent of plum in the air from Fu Han was intense enough to make Ji Qingyu’s legs feel weak.
Fu Han held the position. After a long moment, he sneered. His gaze was too stern and icy, making Ji Qingyu feel chills. Fu Han bit his ear, saying intimately, “Don’t worry. Keep your little schemes to yourself. I won’t let you succeed with that kind of despicable trick a second time.”
Ji Qingyu froze. He didn’t speak, his eyes fixed on the entrance of the banquet hall. Ji Ran remained polite and quiet by Ji Deyong’s side, giving Ji Qingyu an ambiguous smile. The last guests also left.
The fireworks burned out, the singing ceased, and the quiet loneliness of the late night enveloped the villa halfway up the mountain.
Fu Han threw him aside and disappeared somewhere, leaving him alone to return to the bedroom.
As if I want to do that kind of thing with him a second time.
Ji Qingyu felt like laughing. Countless emotions clashed within him. The qipao he had worn all day could finally come off. Fu Han had a huge dressing room, bigger than his cramped rental apartment combined.
After undressing, he dragged his heavy body to the bathroom and quickly washed his face with cleanser. Fearing he hadn’t removed all the makeup, he washed it again, then showered while carefully shielding the back of his neck. When he returned to the bedroom, Fu Han had somehow arrived and was already lying down, wearing his muzzle.
Ji Qingyu stared at the back of Fu Han’s head for a long time. Moonlight cast silver fragments in the room. His hair was half-wet, and he was only wearing a thin shirt. He moved lightly, like a small animal, climbing into bed and curling up next to Fu Han. He found a spot as far away from the other man as possible and closed his eyes.
In his dream, he vaguely realized there was a wall behind him. He was embraced by something warm, and his back and abdomen became hot.
He whispered, “Thirsty…”
The warmth disappeared. Then, something touched his forehead. Soon after, he drank water, and his long-dry throat was finally moisturized.
The wall complained softly about something, but the sound was muffled, and he couldn’t hear clearly. It seemed to be raining inside the room.
Instinctively seeking a warmer heat source, he embraced something like an animal, curling into a ball. He had a very long dream. In the dream were the ice plains of Siberia, the distant North Star, and a luminous comet tail tracing the slide of a morning star across the sky.
When he woke up, there was a glass of plain water on the bedside table. Fu Han was gone. Ji Qingyu sat up, clearing his head. The house felt empty. He walked around and discovered that Fu Han’s house actually contained a large room with a piano, a guitar, a bass, and a full set of audio and professional equipment.
The room had excellent lighting. Ji Qingyu had wished countless times to have such a space, where he could lie down for a while or spend an afternoon quietly writing songs.
The equipment looked new. Ji Qingyu’s heart itched, and he couldn’t resist asking Wang Sao what Fu Han used the equipment for and if he could use it.
Wang Sao was an old family retainer who had looked after Fu Han for many years and managed all the affairs in the villa. Calling her Fu Han’s nanny wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
“Mr. Fu instructed that you can do anything you like when he’s not here,” Wang Sao said politely. “Would Madam like some dessert?”
“No, thank you, Wang Sao.” Ji Qingyu was about to go try the equipment when there was a knock at the door.
“Strange… Mr. Fu said he was going to the company and would be very busy until late. Did he forget something?” Wang Sao went to open the door, but the person outside wasn’t Fu Han.
It was a very handsome middle-aged man with sharp eyes and a cool, noble demeanor. Wang Sao called him “Master,” and Ji Qingyu realized this was Fu Han’s father, Fu Yunbo, who had never appeared at the wedding.
Ji Qingyu had heard of Fu Yunbo. He was a career Alpha, ambitious and energetic. The Alphas in the Fu family seemed never to treat each other as family bound by blood; malicious struggles and competition were common. As the previous patriarch who had emerged victorious from the last generation’s struggle, the air of authority around Fu Yunbo was even heavier than Fu Han’s.
A few years ago, the Fu family underwent a power transition. Something went wrong the night the old patriarch died, and Fu Han was unable to be present, allowing his uncle to gain the upper hand. That night was devastating for Fu Yunbo, and it took him several years to reclaim the family business and hold it firmly in his grasp.
“Wang Sao, you may leave. You, come with me.” Fu Yunbo had a few white hairs at his temples. He didn’t look at Ji Qingyu but walked directly toward the living room.
Ji Qingyu could only follow. He brewed two cups of tea, placing one in front of Fu Yunbo.
“Hello, are you looking for me… for something?”
Fu Yunbo ignored the tea, looked up and scanned Ji Qingyu, his gaze heavily scrutinizing. Finally, he commented, “Looks decent, but too weak. You look like you’re in poor health.”
Ji Qingyu thought that he wasn’t weak; his physique was comparable to a Beta’s. He was just a little weak from the recent surgery.
Fu Yunbo said nonchalantly, “It’s one thing that he usually doesn’t listen to me. It’s good that he has his own ideas now that he’s grown up. But I didn’t expect him to be so headstrong that he’d dare to defy me on his marriage.”
Yes, Ji Qingyu thought, Fu Han was so determined that he’d rather ruin his marriage to retaliate against me. How could his resolve not be firm?
“If you have any self-awareness, you’ll stay home obediently, focus on proper matters, and hurry up and have a child with Fu Han.” Fu Yunbo finally brought up the main point. The coldness and arrogance on him, accumulated over the years, meant he didn’t take anyone like Ji Qingyu seriously. Perhaps to him, Ji Qingyu’s only and greatest value was his fertility.
Fu Yunbo finished speaking and stood up, ready to leave. Ji Qingyu spoke from behind him, “Uncle.”
“…” Fu Yunbo glanced back at Ji Qingyu.
“Fu Han and I won’t be having children.”
He sat there, his hair untied, flowing softly over his shoulders. His well-proportioned and handsome body blocked half of the sunlight coming from the window. He seemed completely unaffected by Fu Yunbo’s sarcasm, his rebuttal light and airy.
Fu Yunbo seemed to look at him properly for the first time. This time the stare lasted longer. After a while, he spat out, “You are very good.”
“Do you really believe that a marked Omega can control himself?” Fu Yunbo seemed quite experienced in this matter. The condensation on the windowpane slid and stopped, wetly shrouding the surroundings. “When the time comes, I’m afraid you’ll be begging Fu Han. I look forward to seeing if you can still be so calm.”
He was about to say something else, but the door opened again at that moment.
The person who entered was walking quickly, his chest heaving heavily. His eyes were fixed on Fu Yunbo, not like a son looking at his father, but like someone looking at a mortal enemy, “You didn’t come to my wedding, but you have time the next day to come here and find fault?”
“That meeting today was so important. Who told you to come back?” Fu Yunbo’s face completely hardened. The two Alphas stood their ground, nearly ready to tear into each other.
“My affairs with him are none of your business. You don’t have the right to interfere.” Fu Han’s tone was layered with ice, a sharp knife cutting across the other man’s face.
Fu Yunbo looked at the two of them, his expression shifting between dark and light, “Very well. You’re getting better and better now, you won’t even listen to my words.”
“Your words? What words? Is your own family happy? What right do you have to manage my affairs here?”
Fu Yunbo stopped. He wanted to say something but was speechless. Fu Han slammed the door shut loudly, causing a huge buzzing sound.
Fu Han exhaled, his eyes fierce. A strong, aggressive pheromone enveloped the area like smoke. He walked into the study, saying to Ji Qingyu, who was quiet as a mouse to the side, “You too, can’t you just stay put? Can you stop causing me trouble?”
