Doctor Gu’s Orange Cat Boyfriend - Chapter 22
The delivery guy stood at the door holding two large bags of food.
Su Wanqing’s eyes twinkled as she enthusiastically extended an invitation to Gu Chaoyu: “Dr. Gu, haven’t you eaten yet? Mucí just ordered takeout. Why not stay and join us? It’s our way of thanking you for the fish soup.”
“Well… isn’t that a bit much?” Lin Mucí, still holding the takeout, hesitated.
“Why would it be?” Su Wanqing pulled him back in and smiled at Gu Chaoyu. “Food tastes better with company! Just think of it as keeping us siblings company, Dr. Gu.”
Gu Chaoyu glanced at Lin Mucí’s troubled expression, then at Su Wanqing whose mind was already spinning with a hundred thousand words of imagined scenarios. Gu Chaoyu readily agreed: “Alright, I’ll intrude then.”
Soon, the takeout spread across the dining table.
As they ate, Su Wanqing asked,
“Where are you from, Dr. Gu?”
“Local.”
“Which hospital do you work at?”
“I run my own small clinic.”
“Traditional Chinese medicine? Not many young people study that nowadays. Impressive. Any family left?”
“My mother passed away, but my father is still alive.”
Gu Chaoyu’s answers were flawless,
while Lin Mucí listened beside him, heart pounding and palms sweating.
【Sis! You’re interrogating him! Tone it down!】
【Does Gu Chaoyu think my cousin is annoying? Will this make him think less of me?】
Seeing that routine questions yielded nothing, Su Wanqing decided to switch tactics and go straight for the heavy stuff.
She picked up a piece of pickled fish with her chopsticks and said, “Little Mucí looks a bit slow, but he’s actually been incredibly likable since he was little. I remember when he was in college, there was this foreign language department beauty who pursued him with such passion. She waited for him downstairs at the dorm every day, bringing breakfast and showing affection. She kept it up for over half a year!”
“Ahem!” Lin Mucí choked on his rice, his face flushing crimson.
【Sis! What nonsense are you spouting?! Why bring up ancient history?!】
【She wasn’t some department beauty. She’s just a classmate who asked me to save her a seat and brought breakfast along! How did that turn into a grand romantic pursuit in your version?!】
Su Wanqing patted his back while secretly observing Gu Chaoyu’s reaction.
Gu Chaoyu’s movements paused slightly.
He recognized Su Wanqing’s probing intent.
He also sensed Lin Mucí’s inner torrent of sarcastic rebuttals and defenses.
The next second, Gu Chaoyu picked up a piece of fish, bones already removed, and placed it in Lin Mucí’s bowl.
“Eat more. You’re too skinny.”
Lin Mucí stared blankly at the fish in his bowl, his face flushing even redder.
【He… he just served me food…】
【And he said I’m skinny…】
Meanwhile, Su Wanqing who was a professional CP matchmakeer felt her inner groundhog start screaming wildly inside her head.
【Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!】
【“You’re too thin!” That’s straight out of a domineering CEO’s spoiled-child script!】
【He’s absolutely head over heels for my brother! That intense possessiveness, that strong sense of threat. That’s why he’s so hostile toward me, his “close cousin”!】
【Locked in! This is a sure thing! I’ve swallowed the key!】
After dinner, Gu Chaoyu volunteered to clear the table, while Su Wanqing pulled Lin Mucí onto the sofa for a “private chat.”
“Way to go, Lin Mucí,” Su Wanqing whispered, excitedly punching him playfully. “Where’d you snag this drop-dead gorgeous guy? Spill it… How far have you two gotten?”
“What are you talking about! He’s just a neighbor!” Lin Mucí made a last-ditch attempt to deny it.
“A neighbor?” Su Wanqing scoffed coldly. “Would a neighbor know your stomach issues and prepare a specially made fish stew soup for you? Would a neighbor immediately serve you food to assert ownership when I mention your ‘romantic history’? Do you think I became an emotional blogger with a million followers for nothing?”
Lin Mucí was rendered speechless by her barrage.
Just then, Gu Chaoyu emerged from the kitchen.
Su Wanqing glanced at Gu Chaoyu, then at her clueless cousin, deciding to administer a more potent dose.
She stood up, pretending to head for the restroom. As she passed Lin Mucí, her foot seemed to catch on something. With a gasp, her balance faltered, and she toppled straight toward him!
“Ah—watch out!”
Before he could react, Lin Mucí felt a sudden gust of wind sweep past him, pulling him into a warm, solid embrace. An instantly familiar herbal scent filled his nostrils.
“Careful.”
Gu Chaoyu’s voice rang out above her head. One arm tightly encircled Lin Mucí’s waist, shielding him within the embrace.
His other hand steadied Su Wanqing’s arm, preventing her from “falling”… After all, she was Lin Mucí’s sister.
【I… I’m in his arms?!】
【He’s holding me! He’s holding me!】
【This is the first time I’ve ever openly laid in his arms as a human! Ahhh, Mom, your son has made it!!!】
Su Wanqing steadied herself, watching the scene unfold before her, and nodded with satisfaction.
【Holy crap! That reaction speed! That boyfriend power!】
【Protect my brother first, then help me! Priorities straight! Unbelievable!】
【That instinctive protective move… If that’s not true love, what is?! I’m dying, I’m dying!】
Gu Chaoyu steadied Su Wanqing and immediately withdrew his hand, but the arm wrapped around Lin Mucí’s waist showed no sign of loosening.
He tilted his head slightly, leaning close to Lin Mucí’s ear. His warm breath deliberately or perhaps unintentionally brushed against the sensitive earlobe.
“You weren’t scared, were you?”
His voice was soft and gentle.
Lin Mucí shuddered, his ears instantly flushing crimson.
【Ahhhhh he’s whispering to me!】
【My ears feel so ticklish…】
【Help, I’m melting…】
This scene completely ignited Su Wanqing’s fiercely burning fujoshi spirit.
She thought, what a load of crap this “testing” business was!
Faced with this level of sexual tension, you should just flip the table!
Su Wanqing cleared her throat, pushed her glasses up her nose, and instantly adopted an intensely stern expression.
Stepping forward, she declared solemnly:
“I, Su Wanqing, hereby officially assume the position of President of the ‘Morning and Evening’ CP Support Club, concurrently serving as Honorary Commander of the Head-Pushing Task Force!”
“Morning and Evening?” Lin Mucí was still dazed, repeating the phrase unconsciously.
“The ‘Morning’ from Gu Chaoyu and the ‘Evening’ from Lin Mucí. Thus, “Morning and Evening”. Get it?” Su Wanqing explained, her face wearing a “I’m fucking brilliant” smirk.
Lin Mucí’s brain buzzed as the meaning finally clicked.
Like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, he shot out of Gu Chaoyu’s embrace.
“Sis! What the hell are you talking about!” he stammered, his face flushing as red as a ripe tomato. “What CP! What fan club! We’re just… just ordinary neighbors!“
”Explanations are just cover-ups, and cover-ups are the truth!“ Su Wanqing grabbed his shoulders to stop him from running away. ”The signal strength between you two is almost as strong as a 5G base station, and you think you can hide it from me? Do you think my million followers are fake?”
