Divorced from the Cold CEO Who Lived by the Rules - Chapter 9
“My wife can’t instantly help you control your pheromones,” Xu Zhen continued to evade. “This is an illness you need to see a doctor.”
Xu Zhen insisted on keeping her distance from Jiang Ruan. She gripped the other woman’s wrist, trying to peel away the palm pressed against her. Jiang Ruan’s hand, usually cold, now felt warm and steady, radiating an almost scorching heat.
Xu Zhen had her suspicions, but that was all. She had no intention of actively helping Jiang Ruan relieve her condition.
Whether the Alpha had taken suppressants remained unverified. Xu Zhen wasn’t about to blindly offer herself as a remedy based solely on Jiang Ruan’s words.
Besides, aside from the yet-to-present Xu Tingyuan, everyone else in the household was a Beta. No one would suddenly emit Omega pheromones and trigger Jiang Ruan into a frenzied, irrational state.
Xu Zhen was ruthless, indifferent. A flicker of something unreadable passed through Jiang Ruan’s expression.
Xu Zhen forced herself to turn away, refusing to meet Jiang Ruan’s gaze. “You left a muzzle here last time. If you don’t trust your self-control, I’ll go get it!”
“No need,” Jiang Ruan interrupted, then made another request. “Just sit here with me for a while.”
Xu Zhen didn’t want to agree, but the moment she saw those puppy-dog eyes brimming with grievance, her body betrayed her before her mind could react. “Fine.”
The instant the word left her mouth, regret set in. But backing out now was pointless, so she stiffly settled beside Jiang Ruan, unmoving.
Jiang Ruan seemed to be struggling. Unlike Omegas, Betas weren’t highly sensitive to Alpha pheromones, only when the scent grew overwhelmingly potent could they detect that perfume-like fragrance.
Right now, the tip of Xu Zhen’s nose was persistently haunted by Jiang Ruan’s scent, lingering stubbornly.
It puzzled her. Jiang Ruan had never been like this before, so Xu Zhen was now certain: Jiang Ruan had lied earlier.
She absolutely hadn’t taken suppressants as claimed.
This was reckless.
Xu Zhen’s brows knitted. In any other setting, Jiang Ruan could have made a grave mistake. To an Alpha in rut, an Omega’s pheromones were like the smell of smoke to an addict utterly irresistible.
If some innocent Omega were forcibly marked by an out-of-control Jiang Ruan…
Xu Zhen refused to entertain the thought further.
She pulled out her phone and silently ordered a full box of suppressants and syringes for Jiang Ruan via a delivery app. Xu Zhen rarely came home, usually staying at their marital residence, so the house wasn’t stocked with such supplies.
Betas lacked scent glands and had stable hormones. On the rare occasions Jiang Ruan accompanied Xu Zhen back, her sensitive periods had never coincided. Neither Xu Susu nor Xu Zhen had ever considered preparing for this.
After placing the order, Xu Zhen distractedly scrolled through her phone.
She and Jiang Ruan didn’t seem to have much to talk about. They barely even touched on each other’s personal lives.
Months would pass between their meetings, and when they did, they were either tangled up in bed or entangled in unspeakable acts. Beyond physical intimacy, they had never ventured into each other’s inner worlds.
What books had her wife read? What ideologies did she believe in? What were her preferences? They knew nothing about each other.
Belatedly, Xu Zhen wondered was this normal?
The beautiful Beta stayed quietly by her side, and Jiang Ruan noticed her delicate brows occasionally relaxing, then furrowing again, utterly expressive.
Since their marriage, Jiang Ruan had rarely seen Xu Zhen so vividly animated. The woman was always restrained, calm, and rational in front of her, as if they weren’t lovers but a boss and subordinate bound by strict hierarchy.
Of course, intimate moments were the exception.
Jiang Ruan’s gaze was impossible to ignore, and Xu Zhen soon snapped out of her thoughts, instinctively glancing toward her.
The moment their eyes met, Xu Zhen jolted awake, hurriedly looking away.
Her evasion was too obvious. Jiang Ruan’s eyes darkened slightly, but she said nothing, silently leaning back on the sofa to endure the torment of her rut. The surging heat in her body was forcibly suppressed, and soon a thin layer of sweat coated her skin.
Jiang Ruan felt slightly lightheaded. She bit the tip of her tongue. “Mind if I use the shower?”
After pointing her in the right direction, Xu Zhen suddenly noticed how low and hoarse Jiang Ruan’s voice had become. She stood up as well. “I’ll walk you up and get you some fresh clothes.”
Holding onto hope, Jiang Ruan didn’t refuse.
There wasn’t much difference in their heights Xu Zhen was 175 cm, Jiang Ruan 182 cm and since Xu Zhen always bought clothes a size larger, everything in her wardrobe fit Jiang Ruan perfectly.
After being ushered into the bathroom, Jiang Ruan took a cold shower.
The icy water poured over her head, extinguishing most of the restless fire in her body.
Once changed, she emerged with her long hair still damp. Xu Zhen felt no steam from the bathroom and asked in surprise, “You used cold water?”
“Yeah,” Jiang Ruan admitted bluntly. “To cool down.”
Xu Zhen frowned disapprovingly, then shoved a hairdryer into Jiang Ruan’s arms. “Dry your hair properly so you don’t get sick.”
Alphas had strong constitutions, but their ruts left them vulnerable.
Worried she might catch a cold, Xu Zhen unceremoniously pushed her back into the bathroom. Jiang Ruan obediently turned on the hairdryer. Her hair was long and thick not wavy like Xu Zhen’s, but straight, smooth, and glossy.
The jet-black strands made Jiang Ruan’s skin appear even paler, luminous as snow.
Xu Zhen had been staring at her for too long, lost in thought, so when Jiang Ruan set down the hairdryer and moved closer, she didn’t react immediately not until familiar warmth pressed against her lips once more.
The woman lost herself in the softness before her, her movements growing bolder by the second.
Logically, Xu Zhen knew she should push her away, but emotionally, she couldn’t. Jiang Ruan smelled intoxicating, her thick pheromones enveloping Xu Zhen completely. Her mind grew hazy, her reactions sluggish, and an insatiable greed took hold, she wanted more.
So, her body moved on its own, just as it had countless times before. She pulled Jiang Ruan into her arms with practiced boldness, surrendering to the intoxicating pleasure.
Their lips met, the pressure between them deepening. Xu Zhen was spellbound, forgetting all about resistance.
Raven hair fanned out across the pillow, clinging to sweat-dampened, snow-white skin. Graceful, tantalizing arcs traced through the air with every movement.
The sensation was exquisite, Xu Zhen nearly moaned from sheer bliss.
But just as the two were about to take things further, Xu Tingyuan’s shouts accompanied by knocking suddenly rang in their ears: “Sis! Your food delivery is here!”
Xu Zhen snapped back to reality in an instant, her unfocused eyes regaining clarity as she immediately regained her composure. “It’s your suppressants,” she said.
