Distance Formula - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Bai Biqing didn’t go to hang the red cloth strip, even when Su Yanshi untied the one on her wrist and handed it to her, generously saying, “Here, tie it on you!”
The Beta occasionally found this aspect of the Alpha very cute. She liked to be direct, perhaps without even realizing it herself, simply acting on her thoughts. And Bai Biqing enjoyed this way of interacting.
Bai Biqing took it and remained silent for a long time. After thinking it over, she said, “No, you should wear it.”
Su Yanshi pointed to herself. “Me?”
“Mhm, you wear it. It looks very good.”
“Hold out your hand.” Bai Biqing didn’t allow her to argue. Su Yanshi obediently extended her hand. She had gotten thinner; her wrist looked noticeably slimmer. The Beta quickly tied it on for her.
Bai Biqing observed it for a moment, Tsked once, and praised, “Red suits you. It looks nice.”
Su Yanshi smiled. She led Bai Biqing toward the RV. “Teacher Bai, you really like complimenting my appearance.”
“Don’t you like it?”
The Alpha opened the car door and turned sideways. “I do. Who doesn’t like being complimented?”
Bai Biqing also smiled. She stepped into the car. Su Yanshi immediately sat next to her, familiarly pulling out some fruit from the small fridge nearby. After washing it, she handed it to Bai Biqing. “Want some?”
“Yes, I do. Who could refuse a gift from a beautiful person?” Bai Biqing took the apple, but her eyes subtly swept over Su Yanshi. “I like to compliment everything beautiful.”
Su Yanshi tilted her head. It was clear she was in a good mood, and she bantered back. “Then… Teacher Bai must have complimented many people?”
The Beta intentionally paused for a few seconds. Seeing Su Yanshi’s gaze grow serious, she let out a soft laugh. She spoke while breaking the apple into pieces. “No. There is only one Su Yanshi. No matter how many I compliment, they are all different.”
“Sincerity or insincerity, you will always represent the former.”
As she spoke, she broke the apple in half. “Being too thin is not good.”
After Li Zhuonan had driven the RV over, Su Yanshi had been managing it herself. Besides some fruit, there was only whole wheat bread bland food.
Su Yanshi took the apple, not dwelling on Bai Biqing’s words, but listening obediently. She said, “I’m not too thin. I’ll gain it back. Plus, I’m not on a long-term diet.”
Bai Biqing gave a low “Mhm.” She exhaled, carefully chose her words, and first said, “I apologize.”
The Alpha looked at her, confused.
Bai Biqing chuckled in a muffled way. “I told Su Shang about your situation. Seeing that you still don’t have an assistant, I wanted her to help you look for a suitable person.”
Su Yanshi said, “Ah,” in a nonchalant manner. “You scared me. I thought something was wrong. So… is there anyone suitable?”
“Hmm—” Bai Biqing hissed, opening her mouth uncertainly. “There probably is, but I’m afraid this person might not be very good at the job.”
“You tell me who it is first, and then I’ll decide. Being an assistant can be both difficult and easy to pick up. My work schedule isn’t particularly tight. I can keep up with it.”
Bai Biqing bit into the apple. She wasn’t entirely sure herself. This was indeed a significant departure for her, but she felt she was the most suitable. However, speaking truthfully, she also had ulterior motives.
“What do you think… about me?” she suddenly asked.
“You—” Su Yanshi took a few seconds to react. Her eyes widened, not understanding the meaning. “What?!”
After swallowing her bite, Bai Biqing tried to look serious. “Can I be your assistant?”
“I’ve thought it over carefully. I don’t know this job, but I can learn. Please don’t feel burdened. You can consider me a temporary assistant. People always have to be in different environments to stimulate new potential, don’t they? If you’re worried about my painting, please rest assured. I have the full capacity to manage my time.”
She looked directly at Su Yanshi. “Of course, if you don’t accept, that’s fine.”
Su Yanshi was slow to respond. She nervously twisted the hem of her clothes, explaining quietly, “It will be very tiring, and you won’t find the salary suitable.”
Bai Biqing raised an eyebrow. Her tone rose. “That’s not a problem. I am willing. I am entirely willing. I don’t care about the money.”
“Yanshi, whether it’s my playful impulse or whatever, how about I try being your temporary assistant? Yes or no?”
