- Chapter 1 - There is a Heartthrob in Class E
“Look, quick! That is Hua Lian.”
“The culprit who single-handedly destroyed Class E? She actually looks like that?”
“Can you say that while actually looking at her face? Besides, we are standing this far away; we definitely will not be affected.”
Outside a certain classroom, two girls were peeking in stealthily. Everyone had grown accustomed to this sight, even though this student named Hua Lian had only joined Class A today. However, her reputation preceded her. It was as if Hua Lian were the center of a circle; people instinctively kept their distance. Yet, despite that, no one could help but stare at her.
“My eyes must be playing tricks on me. Is she surrounded by special effects?”
“I think you are crazy. This is the real world, and there is no way a classroom would have”
The girl’s retort suddenly jammed in her throat. On Hua Lian’s desk, a flower pot had appeared out of nowhere. The flowers growing inside were exceptionally beautiful, but they also happened to perfectly shield Hua Lian’s face from view.
“Is she in a bad mood?”
“Probably. After all, Class E had over thirty pursuers. Three died, four are still in the hospital, and five went insane. The rest were reassigned to other classes.”
Student A recounted the gossip in detail, causing Student C’s expression to turn subtle.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Student A asked, bewildered. Student C hesitated before saying, “Little A, do you like Hua Lian?”
Student A’s face flushed instantly as she shook her head frantically. “No, no, no! How could I possibly like? First of all, I like men, and secondly”
As A listed numerous reasons why it was impossible for her to like Hua Lian, Student C felt a rising sense of irritability. “I cannot take it anymore! I have to see for myself just how beautiful this Hua Lian really is!” Before A could react, C charged toward Hua Lian.
Class A was the elite track; essentially everyone here was a top student. Seeing the aggressive approach of Student C, the students became flustered, fearing this girl had come to start a fight.
However, C went straight for Hua Lian. The students watched anxiously, some even considering whether they should run and inform the teacher. C also felt a bit awkward, but having already entered the classroom, she continued her march toward Hua Lian.
Finally, reaching her destination, C glared down at Hua Lian, who was hiding behind the flowers.
One second, two seconds passed.
Outside, A watched with bated breath, desperately calling for C to come back.
“Um, is your name Lily? What a lovely name.”
The woman, who was being stared at intently, finally spoke. When she smiled, even the flowers beside her lost their luster. C’s heart thundered; she felt as if she were floating on a cloud. She had never seen someone so beautiful. With that single smile, her heart seemed to melt.
To this day, C still does not know how she eventually managed to leave that classroom.
The commotion ended, and students called out from a distance. “Student Hua Lian, are you alright?” They did not dare get too close to Hua Lian, and they dared even less to look at that flower-like face, fearing their hearts would be stolen.
Hua Lian smiled faintly. “Don’t worry, I am fine.” For some reason, her voice carried a faint tremor, but no one noticed. Seeing that she was okay, the others lowered their heads and returned to their books.
Seeing this, Hua Lian moved the flower pot slightly further until she was certain no one could see her face. Only then did she feel relieved enough to take out a book.
The book was wrapped in an exquisite cover, clearly reflecting its high value. In contrast, the pages inside were not new; it was obvious the owner had flipped through them many times. She looked focused, occasionally frowning or scribbling notes.
“Why would someone like that come to our class? Could she not go to Class S?”
“If Hua Lian went to Class S, that class would probably disband too. Our class is mostly scholarship students; we are easier to deal with.”
After the disturbance, seeing Hua Lian so calmly reading her book made a few people in Class A feel disgruntled. Hua Lian’s family was one of the Four Great Families. Even though she caused an entire class to collapse, a few donated buildings and a quick phone call were all it took to land her here.
To the members of Class A, Hua Lian was an outsider, and they were filled with hostility toward her.
At that moment, Hua Lian suddenly looked up. She had beautiful peach-blossom eyes, dark and bright. She was stunning; alluring without being gaudy, radiating a captivating aura. The two top students who had been discussing her felt their hearts skip a beat. They looked away in confusion, but in their haste, they clumsily bumped into each other.
The abnormality of the situation made them incredibly embarrassed. They expected this aloof flower to mock them. However, Hua Lian merely nodded slightly to them and lowered her head back to her book. Her gaze was as calm as water, as if she held no prejudice against these top students. Their hearts pounded, though they could not tell if it was their own or the other’s.
“I think Hua Lian has been demonized. It is not that exaggerated at all.”
“I agree. She looks just like Venus.”
The tide turned for the two top students. Perhaps because that face was too beautiful, their morals followed her features.
Silence returned to the classroom. Hua Lian seemed to heave a sigh of relief and continued writing her notes.
Coping Strategies for Social Anxiety Disorder require a combination of psychological adjustment and behavioral training. Specific methods include:
Psychological Adjustment:
Self-Acceptance: Stop self-negation. Rebuild confidence through self-suggestion. Avoid excessive self-blame or demanding perfection.
Focus on the Present: Shift attention to specific social content. Reduce excessive focus on one’s own performance. For example, during a conversation, think more about the other person’s needs rather than how you are performing.
Her handwriting was delicate and beautiful, seemingly at odds with her glamorous appearance. She wrote with great earnestness, as if by copying the entire book, she could truly escape her current obstacles.
One class passed, then two.
It was not until the end of the first week of their second year that the students of Class A realized that, aside from her self-introduction, Hua Lian had not spoken to anyone.
“What do you think she is writing? I could not sit still for that long.”
“My guess is a conquest log. Have you not heard the rumors that Hua Lian dated everyone in Class E? Do you think she plans to date everyone in Class A too?”
“Heavens, could she even handle that much work!”
“As expected of Xiao Lin, your thoughts are always different. People in other classes say some pretty nasty things behind her back. That is probably why she was placed in this class.”
“I do not think so. Based on my observation sitting behind her for a week, she seems to be studying.”
The two top students continued their discussion. Since their last encounter, Hua Lian had become the only thing they were interested in besides their studies. They could discuss this naturally now because Hua Lian had been called away by a teacher. At this moment, the notebook was beckoning like Eve’s apple, tempting them to discover the secret Hua Lian was hiding.
“Should we just take a peek?”
“That is not right. What if it is a diary or something?”
“Then we will not read it. I just want to make sure she is a good person. Xiao Lin, you have been wanting to talk to her, right? But if she is a terrible person, we will be in trouble.”
The conversation continued, and Xiao Lin felt swayed. The desk was only a step away, guarded only by a few well-cared-for plants.
Their eyes met again. Xiao Lin stepped closer, her hand reaching for the mysterious notebook.
Closer.
Her heart pounded so hard it would not stop.
She finally touched the notebook. But as Xiao Lin went to pull it out, she jerked back as if she had been stung.
“What happened to you?”
“There was an electric shock on it.”
“Pfft, is it just because it is your first time doing something bad? Let me do it.”
The other girl was bolder. She grabbed the notebook without hesitation. But in that instant, a current surged from the point of contact. The girl twitched violently in fright and fell straight onto the floor. The numbing sensation persisted. The girl was dumbstruck, unable to believe what she had just felt.
“Meng Meng, are you okay?”
“I am fine.”
The girl called Meng Meng stared at her hand. The current had been so strong, yet there were no marks on her hand, as if what she felt was just an illusion. Not only that, in that moment, she thought she saw something with red eyes glaring at her.
“Xiao Lin, help me up! Hua Lian is coming back.”
A second later, Meng Meng realized how suspicious it would look to be sitting on the floor in front of Hua Lian’s desk and urged her friend to help her up.
Sure enough, only a few seconds after Meng Meng sat back down, Hua Lian returned. She remained expressionless, looking as if she were in a very bad mood. Once she sat down, she naturally took out the notebook and wrote something.
“Could that be a Death Note?” Seeing that Hua Lian was perfectly fine while she had been shocked, Meng Meng immediately thought of the anime she had watched.
“Don’t talk nonsense. Maybe it was just our psychological guilt since we were doing something bad.” The two whispered quietly, but they suddenly saw Hua Lian’s gaze shift toward them. They both felt a chill down their spines. However, Hua Lian’s gaze remained devoid of emotion. After a single glance, she lowered her head and began writing again.
If the two had been closer, they would have seen the new entry in the notebook:
Eye contact with classmates: 1/1 Completed.
Conversation with classmates: Still not completed.
