Lu Ning has transmigrated into a book.
Just like every other transmigration story, Lu Ning encounters the most tragic character in the entire novel: Mu Qiuyu. Defined as the “Beautiful, Strong, yet Miserable” villain, Mu Qiuyu lost her family as a teenager and suffered endless humiliation and persecution. In the original ending, those around her are redeemed by the protagonist’s “love,” while even the system she trusted most betrays her.
Lu Ning: “What kind of garbage plot is this? Especially that system! It deserves a thousand cuts!”
Main System: “Dear, you are that system now~”
Lu Ning: “…”
Lu Ning doesn’t understand. Why does everyone else transmigrate as a member of the protagonist’s squad, or at least a cannon-fodder character who can be saved? Why did she have to become the Villain System?
Fine, a system is a system. As long as she stays alive.
With this mindset, Lu Ning diligently began her job as Mu Qiuyu’s system. She understood the tropes: use love to redeem the villain, and all problems will be solved.
But… why is there another “Host” in this world?!
And what does Mu Qiuyu mean by tearfully begging Lu Ning to stay by her side?!
Ever since Lu Ning became Mu Qiuyu’s system, she has dedicated every day to pushing Mu Qiuyu toward the “Righteous Path” to avoid the tragic fate of blackening and self-destruction.
Whenever Mu Qiuyu needs it, Lu Ning gives her all—transforming into a cat, a dog, or even a beautiful woman…
“The System must satisfy all of the Host’s requirements” became Lu Ning’s motto. Consequently, after working for six months, her reward points were still in the single digits.
However, Lu Ning’s hard work wasn’t in vain. Not only did Mu Qiuyu fail to blacken at the original plot points, but after stepping onto the righteous path, she even turned around to ask Lu Ning what she wanted.
Lu Ning happily sipped her milk tea, thinking about how to milk mission points out of Mu Qiuyu so she could retire early. She failed to notice that the person asking the question had a look in her eyes that was anything but pure.
She only realized something was wrong when Mu Qiuyu crafted a physical body for her that was exquisite down to the toes.
One night after a gala, Lu Ning was pulled into a tight embrace by a freshly returned Mu Qiuyu. Her internal system sent wild alerts: Warning: Detected high ambient temperature. Risk of overload rising.
But it was too late.
Mu Qiuyu pinned her against the locked door, her cold eyes shimmering with drunken allure: “Didn’t you say… the system should satisfy all of the Host’s requirements?”
As a system serving her Host 24/7, Lu Ning lived within Mu Qiuyu’s inner world.
The inner world is a projection of the Host’s mental state and hides the things the Host least wants to face. Mu Qiuyu had heard Lu Ning describe her inner world, yet she remained unclear about what was hidden there.
Until one day, she came home late. While kissing Lu Ning, she heard her murmur dizzily: “Didn’t we just kiss? Why again… and you’re being so aggressive…”
Mu Qiuyu’s eyes darkened.
She had just walked through the door.
And it seemed she finally knew what was hidden in her inner world.
—The other half of herself.
