Destined to be a Beta, Remembered as the First Love - Chapter 1
In the vast, boundless sea of stars, a black spaceship drifted slowly forward.
The vessel looked ancient. Its alloy exterior was mottled with rust, and its double-layered transparent glass cockpits were covered in a web of intersecting cracks. The thrusters trailed thick plumes of smoke, chugging along with a heavy, mechanical hum.
Inside the basement hold, Chu Li was in a state of stupor due to the effects of drugs. His limbs were curled tight, sounds reached his ears as a blur, and the world before his eyes distorted into flickering lines. He could only vaguely sense that many people like him were locked up nearby.
Suddenly, the heavy doors groaned open, allowing a sliver of light to pierce the gloom of the basement.
Two Alphas with bulging muscles and imposing statures walked in. Laser guns were tucked into their waistbands, and skull tattoos, the unmistakable mark of a star pirate group, were etched onto their arms. They began counting the captives like mere merchandise, categorizing the Omegas by their appearance, physical condition, and pheromones.
“Why doesn’t this Omega have any pheromones?”
One Alpha suddenly grabbed Chu Li by the waist and hoisted him up. Chu Li was like a marionette with its strings cut. His body was limp, and his head hung low, perfectly exposing his fragile neck. On his fair skin, his underdeveloped Beta gland appeared only as a tiny red dot.
Only when the two Alphas leaned in close did they realize his gland produced no pheromones; he was a Beta.
Star pirate groups almost never captured Betas. They lacked the exquisite features and soft, delicate bodies of Omegas and could not be sold for a high price.
“How did a Beta get mixed in here?” “Evans probably mistook him for an Omega and snatched him up.”
Evans.
The semiconscious Chu Li caught the name. Before blacking out, Evans had taken him to find Ruan Ruan, claiming he had seen Ruan Ruan being kidnapped by pirates. By the time they reached the end of the alley and Chu Li realized something was wrong, Evans had struck him from behind and knocked him unconscious.
His next shred of awareness was being imprisoned here.
A cold needle pressed against the back of his neck, and a liquid with a strange, cloying fragrance was slowly injected into his body. He wanted to resist and cry out, but his throat felt as if it had been scraped by sand. The pain was so sharp he could not make a sound.
“This Beta got lucky. I was planning to find an Omega to play with using this potion.”
The Underground City had recently developed a drug that could make a Beta briefly release sweet, artificial pheromones, creating a false illusion of heat. This way, they could deceive buyers and fetch a better price when selling Betas.
Chu Li’s body reacted instantly. A low-grade, synthetic pheromone scent began to waft from the gland at the nape of his neck. Inside, his veins felt as if they were being licked by tongues of fire. The heat roared through his internal organs, frantic and trapped with no way to vent.
A deep flush bloomed across his pale face, his lips turned a vivid crimson, and damp tears clung to his lashes. In this state, he looked no different from an Omega in heat.
Nearby, people were talking and others were sobbing in despair. He struggled to sit up but could not even move a finger. The hopeless cries of the Omegas in his ears gradually faded into the distance. His chest heaved violently, and his consciousness flickered in and out.
He thought he was dying.
After an unknown amount of time, the steadily moving ship suddenly lurched to a halt. The momentum sent the group of Omegas in the basement crashing to the floor.
In the next instant, the pitch-black hold was illuminated by streaks of fire, which was the light of laser bolts streaking past the glass windows. Round after round of laser fire struck the ship, accurately picking off the bandits on board.
Inside the control cabin, the pirates tried to flee, but their path was blocked by a silver-white starship. The silver ship extended two mechanical tentacles, clamping the pirate vessel in place. Members of the “Hunt” squad, dressed in black military uniforms, leaped from the silver ship, their laser rifles sweeping the bandits in a hail of fire.
The rust-eaten metal plating was riddled with bullet holes, the glass cockpits shattered, and the pirates who could not dodge in time were wounded by the shockwaves of the explosions. Yet, the basement hold remained untouched by the assault.
One pirate, reacting quickly, rushed toward the basement intending to take an Omega hostage. However, the moment he opened the hatch, the Hunt squad appeared behind him like ghosts and blew his head off with a single shot.
“General, the D1108 model ship has been suppressed!”
“It is General Lu Jin!” “Ah! General Lu Jin actually saved us!”
Chu Li was jolted awake by the cheers around him. It seemed they were rescued. The Omegas in the hold rushed out in excitement, and soon, only he remained, slumped on the ground and unable to move. In a world filled with the thunder of cannon fire, this corner felt eerily silent.
It was so quiet he could hear the sound of his own breath hitting the floor.
“A Beta? General, were you looking for a Beta?” “There is one in the basement.”
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Black military boots stepped across the floor, walking slowly until they stopped in front of Chu Li. His eyelashes fluttered as he wanted to see who it was.
The figure leaned down, their voice carrying a faint note of questioning: “Chu Li?”
Chu Li was lifted into someone’s arms. His head rested weakly against the person’s shoulder, and amidst the heavy scent of gunpowder, he caught a hint of a light, fresh fragrance. It was not the smell of pheromones, but the scent of aromatherapy lingering on clothing.
It smelled wonderful.
The moment he was carried off the pirate ship, an ion bolt slammed into it. The dilapidated hull exploded with a deafening bang, flames spreading behind them as debris flew through the air.
The explosion startled him and made him flinch. His vision gradually cleared, reflecting the flickering firelight of the sky. In that light, a face with superior contours and sharp, defined lines appeared inches away from his own.
The man wore a military cap, and the shadow from the brim obscured most of his face, leaving only the elegant line of his nose and lips and his deep, rugged profile visible. Sensing Chu Li’s gaze, the man lowered his eyelids slightly, his dark eyes looking back with an intense, pitch-black stare.
Chu Li blinked dazed eyes. Who was this? Did they know each other?
Perhaps it was the effect of the drug, but he felt a sudden surge of boldness. His fingers slowly reached out to touch the man’s cheek, wanting to confirm his appearance more clearly. His fingertips brushed lightly against the corner of the man’s soft lips.
“Lu Jin,” the man said suddenly.
