Classmate, Stop Acting Like a Good Boy [Rebirth] - Chapter 3
Cheng Shixu was pulled back to school in a daze. Sitting in his classroom, his mind was filled with Lu Jian’s impatient expression. He was not a top student at all; he was clearly a little hooligan.
Was there some reason he is attending a vocational school?
The Experimental High School held entrance exams every year, and anyone could enroll as long as their scores met the standard. Was it possible that Lu Jian had gotten in through those entrance exams?
Cheng Shixu thought about it. He wondered if Lu Jian was really that incredible.
If so, he wanted to help Lu Jian.
As soon as class ended, he rushed to the bookstore and bought several exercise workbooks. He dragged Ning Shen straight to the neighboring vocational school, but once he stepped inside, he felt lost. What was Lu Jian’s major? Which class was he in?
He stopped a random student. “Hello, classmate. Do you know which class Lu Jian is in?” To his surprise, the student ran away as soon as he heard the name. This happened several more times, leaving Cheng Shixu completely baffled.
What was going on?
Even though Lu Jian looked like a thug now, he really was not. Why was everyone so afraid of him?
Ning Shen whispered beside him, “I asked around. It seems Lu Jian often gets into fights with students from other vocational schools, and he even acts as a debt collector or enforcer for local venues. Are you sure you are looking for the right person?” His desk mate was dressed in designer brands from head to toe; he did not look like someone who would ever cross paths with a person like Lu Jian.
Cheng Shixu replied, “I am sure. That is just a disguise. He is actually very well-behaved and old-fashioned, and he does not speak loudly. I think he might just be doing this for fun.”
Finally, standing at the door of Class 2-7 of the Auto Repair Department, Cheng Shixu spotted Lu Jian at a glance. He was slumped over his desk in the back row, sleeping. Cheng Shixu waited silently at the door until the bell rang before walking in.
Lu Jian’s desk mate was a boy with pink hair. Upon seeing the visitor, he nudged Lu Jian awake. “Brother Lu, Brother Lu! Someone is looking for you!”
“Who is it? Disturbing my sleep!” Lu Jian grumbled as he lifted his head. There were red marks on his face from the desk, suggesting he had been sleeping quite comfortably. When he looked up and saw Cheng Shixu, his eyes narrowed. He kicked his long legs out, shoved his chair back, and stood up to walk over. “What do you want now?”
Cheng Shixu stuffed the books into his hands. “Do these problems. If there is anything you do not understand, I will teach you. The exam is only a month away, so you need to hurry.”
“What exam? What problems?” Lu Jian grew increasingly annoyed. “Look, are you sick or something? Are we even close?”
Cheng Shixu felt he still needed to tell him about the future. Seeing that many people in the classroom were watching them like it was a show, he gestured with his hand. “Come aside with me for a moment.”
“Do you think I am a dog? You beckon and I am supposed to just come over?” Lu Jian cursed even as he walked out. Many students were out in the hallway during the break, and he saw Ning Shen licking a popsicle while watching him. Rolling his eyes, he followed Cheng Shixu to the stairwell. “Hurry up and say what you have to say. If you say you are my husband again, I will end you today.”
“I will end you, I will end you.” Cheng Shixu repeated the phrase in his mind, but he remained patient. “I am not lying to you. I had a dream. In the future, you will fall in love with me at first sight, and we will have a very good relationship. You were a top student and even started a company later. In short, you are a very excellent man.”
The more Lu Jian listened, the tighter his brow furrowed. He could not understand what this was about. Until he heard the final praise about being an excellent man, he said in shock, “Classmate, you should really go see a doctor.” Him, excellent? Do not be ridiculous. He looked at the luxury watch on Cheng Shixu’s wrist and the expensive sneakers on his feet. How could there ever be a connection between them?
“I have to go to class soon. Remember to do the problems. I will come to check them after school tonight.” Cheng Shixu felt that he had truly acted too obediently during their five years of dating. In his past life, even though his senior year was busy, he would occasionally go out with his childhood friends. Now, his head was filled only with helping Lu Jian get into the Experimental High School.
Lu Jian was so smart; perhaps he was already preparing for it.
When school let out in the afternoon, he hurried to Lu Jian’s classroom, only to find the workbooks in the trash can. How could this be? Did Lu Jian have no intention of applying to the Experimental High School at all?
No, that could not be right. Lu Jian was always so organized. Could it be that Lu Jian was already confident in his abilities?
After thinking it over, that seemed most likely. It was indeed a bit much for him to show up and tell Lu Jian they would be together; he had simply been too excited.
In his previous life, he lived very happily. His only regret was not meeting Lu Jian sooner. Now that he had a sudden chance to see a young Lu Jian, he had indeed lost his sense of propriety. He should start as friends first.
As he was thinking happily to himself, footsteps echoed in the corridor. He looked up and saw Lu Jian walking toward him, holding a basketball and covered in sweat. “Lu Jian, you know how to play basketball?”
Lu Jian frowned the moment he saw him. “Why are you here again?”
Cheng Shixu waved his hand. “I originally wanted to check your problems. Are you already prepared for the exam?”
What exam? Lu Jian forgot about it the moment he turned his head. He wiped the sweat from his forehead, walked past Cheng Shixu into the classroom, and took a forgotten MP3 player out of his drawer. As he turned around, he bumped into Cheng Shixu. He did not know what Cheng Shixu was made of, but with just one bump, a red mark appeared on his forehead. Staring at Cheng Shixu’s moist eyes, Lu Jian opened his mouth and said, “Why have you not gotten lost yet?”
Cheng Shixu rubbed his forehead and followed behind him. “Lu Jian, can you stop being so mean to me? In my dream, you were so gentle to me. We never even fought.” Moreover, in his daily life, if he so much as bumped into something, Lu Jian would get very nervous. This version of him, who remained indifferent even after seeing him hit his head, was too different. Cheng Shixu found it hard to accept.
Suppressing his temper, Lu Jian reached out and pressed hard on Cheng Shixu’s forehead. Cheng Shixu gasped in pain, his eyes turning red with a look of grievance. Lu Jian’s grip immediately softened, and he rubbed the spot gently a few times. “Does it still hurt?”
Cheng Shixu’s face lit up, his aggrieved expression instantly turning into a smile. “It does not hurt anymore.” The hand on his forehead was immediately withdrawn, and the owner turned to leave. Cheng Shixu followed again. “Lu Jian, we will go to Xicheng University together in the future. We can buy an apartment to live in outside the school.” In his previous life, Lu Jian said he graduated from Xicheng University, the same school as him. He had been surprised and regretted that they had never met on campus.
Xicheng University?
Lu Jian thought to himself that no university had anything to do with him.
“The place you are standing right now is called a vocational school.”
Cheng Shixu followed beside him with a beaming smile as if nothing had happened. “I know! After you get into the Experimental High School, we will take the Gaokao together and then fill out our college applications together. How about I join the same major as you?” He did not know what Lu Jian’s major had been in his past life because Lu Jian never mentioned it. Since they had never met, they must have been in different majors. It did not matter what he studied; he just wanted to be with Lu Jian.
A breeze blew past, and Lu Jian caught a scent coming from the person beside him. He wrinkled his nose. “Take two steps.”
Cheng Shixu asked, “What?”
Lu Jian said, “If you are not sick, take two steps.”
Cheng Shixu took two steps. “What does that mean?”
Lu Jian replied, “Alright, you are definitely sick. Go to the hospital quickly. If you cannot get an appointment, call your parents.”
Cheng Shixu said, “…”
“You just do not believe me!”
Looking at his angry face, Lu Jian gripped the basketball tighter. How could he believe him? How could an orphan like him believe that he would be a top student in the future, get into Xicheng University, start a company, and date a good student from a wealthy family like the one in front of him?
They were clearly from two different worlds.
However, the moment he met those eyes filled with sadness, he could not help but soften his tone. It was a very strange feeling.
Suddenly, he felt a palm gently rubbing the top of his head. He looked at the classmate in front of him, who was standing on tiptoes to touch his hair. He did not pull away immediately. Instead, he had the urge to let him keep doing it. Startled by his own thought, he took several steps back. “That is enough!”
Cheng Shixu withdrew his hand and smiled with narrowed eyes. “In my dream, whenever you were unhappy, you loved it when I rubbed your hair. You would feel better as soon as I did.” He leaned his face closer to Lu Jian. “Well? Do you feel a bit better now?”
Lu Jian did not answer and walked away quickly.
Back in the dormitory, his pink-haired roommate asked why he was running so fast and if a ghost was chasing him. Lu Jian ignored him.
He sat at his desk in a daze for a while before getting up and heading out again.
The pink-haired boy watched in confusion as his roommate and desk mate came and went. He picked up a manga to read, but before he could finish two pages, Lu Jian returned. “Wait, Brother Lu, what are you doing?” He could only see Lu Jian’s back. Curious, he got out of bed and saw Lu Jian opening a workbook. “Eh? Is that not the one the kid gave you this morning? Did you not throw it in the trash? You picked it back up. Do you actually want to start studying?”
Lu Jian immediately closed the book upon hearing this. “No such thing. I was thinking I could sell it for a few cents.”
The pink-haired boy put an arm around his shoulder. “You scared me. I thought you were actually going to listen to him and take some exam. I thought I was the only academic failure here. You are not allowed to study behind my back!”
Lu Jian pushed him away. “Fine. I am going to shower.”
When he came out after his shower, the pink-haired boy was already snoring. Lu Jian took a cigarette and went outside to catch the breeze. He stared blankly at the teaching building of the Experimental High School across the way. He did not put the cigarette down until it had burned to the filter.
He also wanted to be a wealthy person, just as Cheng Shixu described.
Unfortunately, he was an orphan from a welfare home. He was a completely different person from the one Cheng Shixu talked about.
It was also possible that Cheng Shixu had a mental illness and was talking nonsense. But regardless of everything, he was straight!
Returning to the room, the pink-haired boy was snoring even louder. Lu Jian plugged his ears with earplugs. Just as he was about to climb into bed, he saw the workbook he had tossed aside. He climbed back down, turned on a small desk lamp, and opened the book.
At five in the morning, the pink-haired boy got up to use the bathroom and was startled by Lu Jian. “Brother Lu! What are you doing? Sitting here instead of sleeping.”
He walked over and saw Lu Jian hurriedly hiding something. He did not see it clearly. “What are you doing?”
Lu Jian quickly climbed into bed. “Sleeping. Goodnight.”
The pink-haired boy looked at the slightly brightening sky and said, “…”
When it was time for class, Lu Jian climbed out of bed with an expression that said he wanted to die. He washed up and dressed in under five minutes before running to the teaching building with his roommate. He did not expect to see Cheng Shixu waiting at the entrance with breakfast in his hands.
“Morning, Lu Jian! I brought you breakfast.” Cheng Shixu had bought corn shaomai, pan-fried dumplings, and sugar-free soy milk. Without waiting for Lu Jian’s answer, he stuffed the items into his hands. “Take this. I have to go back to class.”
He had rushed over right after his early self-study session ended; he only had a fifteen-minute break between classes.
In his previous life, Lu Jian had a weak stomach that did not improve for a long time. Although Cheng Shixu found it strange, he saw on television that all overbearing CEOs had stomach problems, so he did not think much of it. Making sure Lu Jian ate three meals a day had become the thing he could never forget.
“Hey, the person is already far away. Are you still looking?”
Lu Jian withdrew his gaze and entered the classroom with the pink-haired boy. He stared at the breakfast for a long time. It was not until it had gone cold that he picked it up and started eating. It was exactly what he liked. He usually did not eat breakfast, but on the rare occasions he did, this was what he ate.
It was not because he woke up too late to eat.
In fact, he rarely slept this late. It was simply because he had no money; he saved whenever he could.
After finishing, he took the workbook out of his bag.
The pink-haired boy was stunned. “Holy crap, are you really going to do the problems, man?”
Lu Jian ignored him. “Get lost.” He began writing quickly and decisively. The pink-haired boy said mischievously, “I can do that too, just scribbling nonsense!”
