Chased by My Heartless Ex - Chapter 21
Zhou Siyu lowered her gaze, looking with confusion at Xu You, who was pitifully holding back tears.
The girl seemed to be holding back a surge of emotion, determined to get an answer from her. Though Zhou Siyu didn’t understand the necessity, seeing Xu You wear such an expression outside of moments of intimacy irritated her deeply.
After sending Aunt Zhang away, Zhou Siyu patiently sat on the marble coffee table, took a tissue from the box, and gently wiped Xu You’s tears. The square coffee table, carved from a single slab of marble, was hard and cold, but her movements were unusually tender.
“Yes,” she replied, tossing the used tissue into the trash before taking a fresh one, folding it, and placing it over Xu You’s nose. “Blow.”
Xu You’s emotions were on the verge of collapse. Her cheeks, just dried by Zhou Siyu, were soon streaked with tears again. For once, she resisted, blocking her nose and staring at the other woman with despair, as if accusing her.
“Does it hurt that much? Can you stand? I’ll take you to the hospital.” With that, Zhou Siyu’s gaze fell on Xu You’s seemingly uninjured ankle. After a moment’s thought, she carefully lifted Xu You’s calf onto her own lap, gently rotating the joint to examine it.
Overwhelmed by grievance, Xu You didn’t know how to judge the person before her. She was so contradictory, capable of such tenderness yet so willing to share her freely.
Tears soaked into the pure white loungewear, leaving faint gray circles. Noticing no obvious injury on Xu You’s ankle, Zhou Siyu suspected it might be a bone issue, which explained the intense crying.
Without pausing to comfort her, Zhou Siyu slid one arm under Xu You’s armpit, gripping her shoulder, while the other arm slipped beneath her knees. With a firm lift from her core, she cradled Xu You in her arms.
“Aunt Zhang, grab the keys and open the door for me.”
The situation was urgent. Still in her slippers, Zhou Siyu carried Xu You horizontally and strode toward the door leading to the garage. Aunt Zhang hurried out from the kitchen, opened the door, snatched the car keys from the hook, and remotely unlocked the car as Zhou Siyu settled Xu You into the passenger seat and closed the door.
“Is Miss Xu alright?” Aunt Zhang fretted, wringing her hands.
Zhou Siyu took the keys and shook her head, she wasn’t a doctor and couldn’t give a definitive answer.
“Be careful on the road, and call me if anything happens,” Aunt Zhang said, stepping back to avoid wasting time.
Xu You had been suppressing her sobs all along. Only when the key slid into the ignition and the engine roared to life did she blink, interrupting Zhou Siyu’s next move.
She knew perfectly well she wasn’t injured. As for pain, nothing compared to the ache in her heart.
“No need to go to the hospital,” a damp, hoarse voice broke the silence in the car.
Zhou Siyu didn’t catch it clearly. The car, which had already moved forward a short distance, came to an abrupt stop, causing Xu You’s body to sway slightly.
“My bones are fine,” she said, her tone as cold as the chilly air inside the car.
Silence… suffocating and still.
After half a day of calming down, Xu You lifted her head, ready to lay her cards on the table with Zhou Siyu. She couldn’t accept the games they were playing, it violated the rules they’d set beforehand and felt like an insult to her dignity.
The headlights illuminated the area ahead. Zhou Siyu’s luxury cars were all parked in the garage, and when Xu You spotted the Mini Cooper in the yard, her mind went blank for a moment. It took her sluggish brain a few restarts to recall that this was the other car that had been chasing them earlier.
Zhou Siyu was growing impatient, her composure nearly spent. Following Xu You’s gaze to the small car ahead, she asked bluntly, “Don’t like it?”
“Don’t like what?” Xu You was utterly bewildered.
“I got you a commuter car. Since I didn’t have time to take you shopping, I had Lu Ang deliver it directly.” She gripped the steering wheel. “Have you added Lu Ang? If you have any issues with the car, contact him.”
“By the way, don’t bother him unless necessary. He’s slick-tongued and annoying.”
Xu You stared blankly, repeatedly analyzing Zhou Siyu’s words.
No sharing? No twisted games? Had Lu Ang been teasing her with deliberate nonsense?
Her toes curled tightly again, regretting that her kick had been too light. The defiance she’d shown Zhou Siyu moments earlier instantly vanished.
Unbuckling the seatbelt restraining her, she let her slippers drop onto the plush car interior. Xu You climbed over the gearshift and nestled into Zhou Siyu’s embrace, wrapping her arms around her shoulders appeasingly.
“Sorry, sis.” She couldn’t bring herself to look Zhou Siyu in the eye.
“Hmm?” Zhou Siyu’s voice amplified near her ear, coaxing her to continue.
“I was throwing a tantrum earlier, I’m sorry. I’m not actually hurt, and the cut on my hand doesn’t hurt much. I just felt so miserable I couldn’t help crying.”
“Tired?” Zhou Siyu didn’t scold her, instead moving her hand from the steering wheel to gently stroke Xu You’s back.
Unable to voice her extreme suspicions, she simply went along with Zhou Siyu’s assumption.
“Work was harder than I expected. My colleagues finished quickly and left early, but I dragged until the end and still produced mediocre results… Then when I hurt my foot, I just couldn’t hold it in anymore. Everything came pouring out.” There were many grievances to choose from, any one could sustain a long complaint.
She whispered her troubles while Zhou Siyu listened quietly.
After venting, Xu You gazed at Zhou Siyu’s eyes and timidly asked, “Can I reject Lu Ang’s friend request? I don’t like him.”
Fear. Rejection. Zhou Siyu quickly identified these two keywords from her expression and tone.
Considering Lu Ang’s personality, he was indeed a careless, tactless person. Perhaps his flamboyant behavior during their recent interactions had frightened her girl.
“He’s not a bad person, but you can reject him.”
Xu You’s eyes visibly brightened. Zhou Siyu’s hand trailed slowly up her spine before settling on her nape, applying slight pressure with a squeeze.
“Next time you’re upset, just say it directly. If you only cry, we won’t know what’s wrong and will worry.”
After resolving the issue, she still needed to teach the girl some boundaries.
Xu You shrunk her neck, aware she was at fault, and pressed her soft lips against Zhou Siyu’s while nestled in her arms. “I know.”
They were so close that before she could offer further apology, her lips were caught in a sharp bite.
After too long without intimacy, they remained entangled long after the storm passed, only releasing each other when breathless.
“Get up. Let’s go eat.”
Two light pats on her bottom made Xu You instinctively glance toward the door connecting to the house.
Ten minutes ago, she’d thrown a dramatic fit in front of Aunt Zhang. Now, while Aunt Zhang waited anxiously inside, she was here fooling around with Zhou Siyu.
“Can we stay a bit longer?” A tiny mosquito had entered the car.
Zhou Siyu understood her hesitation and tapped her nose with a bent finger. “Now you feel embarrassed?”
“Mhm.”
She hummed, not even forming complete sentences.
Zhou Siyu wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled out her phone to make a call. After two rings, the call connected on speaker.
“President Zhou, have you arrived at the hospital? How is Miss Xu? Does she need to be hospitalized? Should I bring over some food now?” Aunt Zhang asked anxiously in rapid succession, causing Xu You’s face to flush crimson.
Zhou Siyu suppressed a laugh: “Aunt Zhang, you should head back first. She’s fine, we’ll be home shortly.”
“Oh, I’ll wait for you then. I’ll prepare some bone broth to help Miss Xu regain her strength.”
“No need!” Xu You blurted out, unable to contain herself. “Please go back, I’m really alright.”
Five minutes later, a brief glow appeared at the main entrance.
Aunt Zhang departed with her head down, unaware that Zhou Siyu’s car was nestled in the darkness nearby, two pairs of eyes watching her leave.
